Holy Apostles Family Festival Success? If you measure success in terms of money, we will have to wait a few weeks to get the final totals to answer that. As strange as this may sound, money is not an adequate measure of true success. If you think of success in terms of coordination, collaboration and cooperation, then we have to say YES, we had a successful festival. We had people working for months beforehand preparing for what we finally were able to experience these last few days. So many helped Chef Steve to prepare the delicious selection of foods that so many people enjoyed over the four days. There were many compliments from visitors about the outside kitchen. Some even wanted to know if we would rent it out! We had lots of help of all ages with preparations and the set-up of the grounds and there were many positive comments about our set up from visitors as well. The Basket Ladies did another fantastic job in preparing the many baskets and great prizes in the Chinese Auction Tent. There were many people selling and buying the parish raffle tickets, helping with publicity, cooking, entertaining with the games and all of the other things we enjoyed. Our parish bakers-at-home did a wonderful job as always in supplying the delicious homemade goodies for the bake sale and the ladies were great at selling them to hungry, sweet-toothed patrons like me! If you think of success in terms of the kind of Festival that a lively and welcoming catholic Church parish could put on, the Festival was an outstanding success! There was something for people of every age and ability. Even the angels must have shared in our fun, because the weather was perfect even with a little threat of rain on Saturday night. Our compliments, and blessings to the festival co-chairs: Don Moeslein and his crew for grounds, Rich Heinz, Clair Longo and Adam Hoffman and their crew for games and Steve Dziadyk and his food booth committee. A Special Thank You and Blessing to EVERYONE who helped in so many different ways to organize, work and contribute! A very special Thank You to the Lord for a blessed opportunity to be together sharing faith, fun and fellowship! THANK YOU! We couldn't have done it without you! St Francis de Sales said "The greatest method of praying is to pray the Rosary. St Louis de Monfort said "Never will anyone who says the Rosary every day be lead astray. This is a statement that I would gladly sign in my own blood." Deacon Tim is starting a Rosary Club. The Rosary Club will meet at 7 pm on the First Friday of every month to say the Rosary at St Albert the Great. The first meeting of the Rosary Club will be on Friday, August 3rd at 7 pm DTT at St Albert the Great Church Dear Parish Family, Have you ever felt like there is so much more that needs done than you can possibly do, and for some reason it all needs done right now? I am sure that we have all felt like that at one time or another. Some of us may feel like that all the time. The Lord Jesus says to us in the Gospel today, Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while. I think we can all admit that this is exactly what we need! Going to a deserted place to rest is something that we should do daily, weekly, monthly and seasonally. Daily, we can take five minutes to be alone with God and that can be very refreshing. Give it a shot and see what happens. It cannot hurt. Just spend five minutes alone and focus your head and heart on Jesus. It can be helpful just to repeat the Name of Jesus over and over softly. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. Before you know it, you will sense His presence and peace. Weekly, we come to Mass and should take time before and/or after Mass to rest with the Lord in silence. It is also a blessing if you are able to have a weekly holy hour. This could be done with the Blessed Sacrament, outside, or in your prayer space at home. There are so many good ways to rest with Jesus. Monthly, we could take a dessert day and just rest from everything and spend the day with God. This sounds a lot like what Sunday used to be used for. This day should be one of reflecting on the past month and thanking God for all that he has done. Seasonally and yearly there are always organized events to help us get away and rest with Jesus. You might look into attending a retreat at St. Paul of the Cross Retreat Center for a weekend with our Men Fellowship Group or our Ladies Retreat Group. If you are someone who plans ahead, perhaps you could plan to come to the retreat I will be leading at St. Paul Monastery on November 27 th or the evening program on the 28 th. We NEED to rest with Jesus!! In Christ Fr. Levi GOLDEN WEDDING If you and your spouse are celebrating your 50th wedding anniversary any time this year and would like to be invited to the Diocesan Celebration at St. Paul Cathedral on Sunday, October 7, at 2:30 PM, please call the rectory or drop a note in the collection basket no later than Sunday, August 5.

The Case for Jesus is an excellent book written by Brant Pitre. The book was published in 2016 and it has an Afterword by Robert Barron, Auxiliary Bishop of Los Angeles. As indicated by its title, this book will help make the Case for Jesus to you, and it will help you to make the Case for Jesus to others. Brant Pitre encountered anti-christian propaganda and lies when he entered college. This book helps to show the lies that are usually presented and how easy it is to shatter them with proof - even proof from outside the religious community. One of the current lies that is shown and shattered, in this book is the lie that the Gospels were originally written by anonymous writers. Silly as it may sound, this lie has a good bit of traction in the academic world, and even a few on the fringe of religious communities. The multiple proofs that Pitre uses to shatter this lie are easy to read and understand. Anyone reading this book review will be able to understand and process the information and easily shatter this lie if they would encounter someone telling this lie. This is just one of many examples in this great apologetic book that will help you to have a greater understanding, appreciation, and love for Jesus. John 8:32 says that the Truth will set you free. It will set you free from the lies that the secular world promotes about Jesus, and it will set you free from any doubts that you may have about Jesus. This book will help everyone to have a clearer understanding that Jesus is the promised Messiah. He is the is the One that you can cast all of your hopes, insecurities and problems upon. I give this book Five Beards out of Five Beards because it will help readers of any reading level to have a clearer understanding of the Truth - that Jesus truly is the Son of God. Live Jesus in our hearts... Forever! July Festival of Praise Receiving God s Gifts was the theme of July s Festival of Praise. Fr. Levi opened the evening by talking about how we can surrender to God. He said the gifts of the Holy Spirit are like sails and we have to open up the sails to catch the wind and do what God wants us to do. The witness speaker was Patricia McCullough, currently a judge of the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania and a former judge with the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas. Her spiritual journey began in college when she participated in a Christian fellowship group. During a retreat, she studied the Bible on the side of a mountain while longing for a personal relationship with Jesus. She had always thought her faith was deep until she experienced some tough times including the loss of her dad. Then she went on a pilgrimage to Medjugorje. On her trek up the steep and rugged Apparition Hill, she commented that there should be a path. It was then she heard the Holy Spirit s voice saying, It s not supposed to be easy. Later, she was encouraged to run for the Commonwealth Court and, despite her doubts, she kept reading excerpts from the book of Zechariah that convinced her to run. She said that the Holy Spirit is her connection to people all over Pennsylvania. Fr. Tom Galvin was the presider and homilist. He said that God gives us life and our gifts through the Spirit and we must recognize that the gifts aren t meant to be for us, but to elevate others for the glory of God. He used the Praise Band as an example saying that two years ago Fr. Levi and the band members brought their voices and musical talent together and their joy elevates others. We have to ask for an awareness and renewal of God s gifts to build up the body of Christ. When we know the power of God s presence, then we are joined in the oneness of Christ. The rest of the evening included Eucharistic Adoration and more inspirational music led by the Praise Band. Saturday August 11, 2018 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM Through the Cross and Resurrection, Jesus has opened for us a way into heaven. This gives us the type of Hope that will not disappoint because it is packaged in God s love. Relying on this Hope we know that Jesus will hear our prayers and strengthen our character to provide the Healing grace needed to face the many struggles of this world. We welcome Fr. John Skirtich, Administrator of St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin parish in Whitehall, as presider and homilist, and look forward to having him share his insights on this month s theme. This service is an overwhelming celebration of Jesus, with adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Benediction and Eucharistic Procession. The Praise Band Repertoire includes more than thirty beautiful songs and continues to grow monthly. You can view and listen to You Tube videos (by recording artist). Questions: Website: www.holyapostlesparish.org Call: 412-884-7744 PRE-CANA MARRIAGE PREPARATION The Diocesan mandated pre-cana marriage preparation course will be offered this fall, at Holy Apostles Parish, in the Faith Formation Building, on September 14 and 15 (Friday and Saturday). CATHOLIC CHARITIES DIAPER DRIVE We were asked to participate in the annual Diaper drive for Catholic Charities. Please place donations in the narthex of the churches in the designated bassinets or boxes. They are asking for sizes 3 to 5 and wipes also. These donations benefit the Pregnancy and Parenting Support program @ www.ccpgh.org. Thank you in advance for your generosity OUTREACH TO AREA FLOOD VICTIMS Holy Apostles Parish has been actively supporting many victims of the torrential rains that have hit our community so very hard. We have been helping those in need with gift cards to purchase much needed cleaning supply's to help with the mud and water that destroyed so many homes. If help is still needed by any parishioner please contact the parish office. Please pray for these victims of the flooding. Invite someone to Mass next weekend! Cut out the invita on below This past week we heard Jesus send out missionaries to preach repentance. We are not told where, but they were not to take any food, money, or spare clothes. We probably recognize that Jesus is conducting an exercise in trust. They will need to put their complete trust in the Master. So, I ask myself, do we trust God? And if we do, what effect does this have on our life? Now if I trust God in the deepest way, then I must have an active faith in Him. And an active faith must mean more than just believing. James 2:19 tells us that even demons believe in God. James goes on to tell us that believing is useless with out doing what God wants. Faith results in good deeds. God has a plan for each of us. As we proceed on our spiritual journey through life, it is so vital that we work to discern what God s will for us is at our various stages of life. And then we need to work to follow his will in all that we do. Is he asking us to pray more? Is he leading us to share his good news with a neighbor of friend? Is it our task to care for a family member who can no longer care for themselves? There are plenty of Good Deeds to accomplish as we pass through this life. This is what an active faith is. Deacon Mike In Christ: We Are One, We Are Sent Magnificat Pittsburgh Prayer Breakfast Ladies, come to the Magnificat Pittsburgh prayer breakfast on Aug. 25, from 9 am to Noon at the Double Tree by Hilton, Cranberry Twp.
