I can t remember the exact quote (or where to find it), but I do remember it making me stop and think: Smaller churches want to feel bigger. Bigger churches want to feel smaller. Interesting, right? As much as a church like ours wants to have more people, we also acknowledge that we don t necessarily want to lose the familiarity and closeness that mega-churches often struggle to attain. Around Thanksgiving last fall, we did a whole liturgy called Abundance and Scarcity. It is about how powerful the scarcity mindset is for so many of us: always focusing on what we don t have or what we wish we had more of. And how God is a God of abundance: we are enough, we have everything we need to live the abundant life of Christ. So as a church knowing 1) the grass isn t always greener on the megachurch s side of the fence, and 2) our abundance is more of a mindset based in our faith what is God doing in the abundance of our church community? in the abundance of our Point Place community? in the abundance of your life? The Leadership Team is currently exploring what it looks like to develop spiritual community both inside the church and with those who do not have a church home. And the key to all of this is to shift our focus from all that we don t have to all that we do have and what God can do with our little baskets of bread and fish. As the trees fill with leaves, gardens fill with flowers and vegetables, the air fills with warmth, ask God to open your eyes to see his abundance in and around you. ~ Pastor Jon Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. Ephesians 1:3 Page 2

THE GIVING TREE The Monday night Growth Group is still sponsoring the Giving Tree but we re trying something new. Instead of asking for different items each month we ll be emphasizing our Manna Bag Mission project all year. We need travel size personal items such as shampoo, soap, lotion, toothpaste and also, tooth brushes, combs, socks, water bottles, gloves, small bags of snack food or granola bars. When the bags are complete they will be on the Giving Tree table in Paterson Hall. We re asking everyone to take one or two at a time and give them away to someone in need.
