October 12, at 7:30 o'clock n the Lttle Audtorum. The program wll be dvded Into three groups. The frst group wll nclude Mss Peel's personal account of the collectng of ballads n Vrgna. She has collaborated wth Dr. Arthur Kyle Davs who compled the book of Vrgna folklore and ballads, and has made extensve tours n many parts of the state n connecton wth ths work. The second dvson wll nclude the sngng of ballads that have been found n our natve state. Mss Peel's rendton of the ballads dscovered n the mountans s sad to be excellent because of the fact that her ablty as an actress and a dramatst has allowed her to enter nto the very sprt of the mountaneers and to reproduce the melodes as she heard them. They wll take an examnaton on the college handbook ths evenng when they meet orentaton classes for the last tme. A student at S. T. C. does not become a full-fledged college ctzen untl she has taken the standard examnaton on the handbook and sgned the honor code n the presence of an offcer of the student government. When one sgns the honor code she glvea a sacred and bndng pledge whch s not merely a matter of form. Louse Hyde, charman of orentaton classes, and her assstants have been conductng the classes every Monday, Wednesday, and Frday evenng from 7 to 7:30 o'clock snce September 24. The purpose of these classes s to acquant the freshmen and new students wth rules and regulatons of the college. The orentaton course was supposed to have extended over a perod of two weeks. Ths year the examnaton was orgnally scheduled for Frday, October 5. However, at the frst class meetng, the nstructors merely called the roll and dsmssed the students. Then, on account of the Lyceum number last week, the classes could not meet one evenng. Thus, the examnaton and sgnng of the honor code have run over nto ths week. Washngton and Lee wll have a band of over thrty peces durng the present football season. Dr. Leon P. Smth has accepted the poston as drector of the group snce the resgnaton Of Dr. Shelley.
