FROM THE DESK OF FATHER ANTHONY. When Lent begins, Easter seems so far away. Now that we have come to the Fifth Sunday of Lent, the celebration of the Easter Triduum is eleven days away. I hope that the celebration of the Triduum is your priority. I know that we are busy many things are demanding our attention. I know that life goes on for the world during the Triduum but we are different, aren t we? As Christians, the Life, Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the defining reality for our lives. We arrange our lives around His Life. Please plan on participating in the MASS OF THE LORD S SUPPER at 7:00PM on Holy Thursday, April 18; the CELEBRA- TION OF THE LORD S PASSION at 3:00PM on Good Friday, April 19; and THE EASTER VIGIL IN THE HOLY NIGHT at 9:00PM on Holy Saturday, April 20. We continue the celebration of the Scrutinies today. Our catechumen, Suzanne Dunn, continues her preparation for Baptism, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion at the Easter Vigil, by participating in the Third Scrutiny as we hear the Gospel of the Raising of Lazarus at the 11:00AM Mass. I know I am repeating myself -- I hope that you are planning on celebrating this most important Mass of the year we will celebrate the Easter Vigil at 9:00PM on Saturday, April 20. As Lent progresses, I hope that you will take the opportunity to confess your sins. We have a communal penance service here at Holy Trinity on Tuesday, April 16, at 7:00PM. Several priests will be present to help us be reconciled with God as we enter into the celebration of the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. And of course, the Sacrament of Penance is celebrated on Saturday at 4:00PM. If you need to make an appointment for a different time, please call the parish office. How about a little more Lenten inspiration? Pope St. Leo the Great preached in a Lenten homily, Any time is the right time for works of charity, but these days of Lent provide a special encouragement. Those who want to be present at the Lord s Passover in holiness of mind and body should seek above all to win this grace, for charity contains all other virtues and covers a multitude of sins. Let us now extend to the poor and those afflicted in different ways a more open-handed generosity, so that God may be thanked through many voices and the relief of the needy supported by our fasting. No act of devotion on the part of the faithful gives God more pleasure than that which is lavished on his poor. When he finds charity with its loving concern, there he recognizes the reflection of his own fatherly care. Do you ever think about what it takes to have a parish run smoothly? Have you ever considered participating in a different way, other than attending Mass? As baptized Catholics, we have a right to participate and to worship. Although the priest could do it all, that is not the vision or the intention of the Church. Why not consider being involved in a different way? We especially need servers and ushers. I know that some parishioners are put off by the need for clearances and other documents, but this is a relatively easy process and we are happy to assist you with this. In order to facilitate the process, we will have a Mandated Reporter Training Session here at our parish on Thursday, April 11, at 6:30PM in the Parish Meeting Room. This will take about an hour. Please consider attending and please consider coming to the aid of your parish. Someone asked me who should attend? My response was Everyone. No matter what we do as volunteers around the parish, we need to have our clearances. This is just part of life in the Church in 2019. Thanks for your cooperation. Our parish has been promoting the FORMED Program for several months now. Have you noticed? FORMED is an opportunity to learn about our Catholic faith and to grow in faith. This program is free for all of our parishioners. We are investigating various ways that we can use the FORMED resources communally; however, individuals can already use the resources. Parishioners need to sign up for FORMED at www.htligonier.formed.org. Please take a look at the web page and start using the resources there. Also, you have probably noticed the kiosk with books and cassette disks in the gathering space this is part of FORMED. I truly hope you will investigate what our parish is offering through FORMED. Some parishioners have mentioned fundraising to me, i.e., generating income from another source other than the offerings of the parishioners. Ideally, a parish should be able to meet its financial obligations through parishioners support. However, I am not opposed to fundraising I am opposed to the idea that it takes the place of sacrificial giving and tithing. If someone has a particular interest in this or has an idea, please let me know. MOST HOLY TRINITY, ONE GOD, HAVE MERCY ON US!
