UPCOMING KARASOONK (40 days) Sunday January 25, 2015: For the Soul of Sinan Boynuinceoglu requested by: Viken Dumeciyan UPCOMING HOKEHANKISD Sunday January 25th, 2015: For the Soul of Mary Sarkisian (1st Year) requested by: M/M Michael Raymond, M/M David Sarkisian BIBLE VERSE OF THE DAY Romans 8:38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow - not even the powers of hell can separate us from God s love. The Gift of Time See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:15-16 Almost everything in life is stoppable. Even gravity can be suspended temporarily. But one part of life cannot be stopped by us and that is TIME. Right now, as you read these words, time is marching on. But it doesn t march without a purpose. Time marches toward the consummation of God s redemptive plan for planet Earth and its inhabitants. The apostle Paul didn t advise the Ephesians to redeem the time just so they would be busy. It was because he knew that the kingdom of darkness is always at work to stop the advancement of God s kingdom. His words are a reminder that Satan never stops working against God and that we should never stop working for God. But there is another reason: stewardship. Like everything we have life, breath, material goods, salvation, abilities time is a gift from God. Our responsibility as stewards (managers) of God is to use time in the way the Owner of time wants it used. Consider today: The next 24 hours belong to God. They have been given to you as a gift. Be sure to use this day in a conscious manner, consistent with God s desires. I am so busy at this present time I cannot do with less than four hours each day in the presence of God. Martin Luther

This is a new section of our bulletin that we will be posting from January 1st till December 31st, 2015. Genocide Events and any Personal Stories will be displayed here. Anyone who would like to share a personal story from their Great Grandparents, Grandparents or Parents relating to the Genocide, please contact Rev. Fr. Vart Gyozalian - Pastor at fathervard@yahoo.com Thank You!!! My Great Grandmother s Story 1915 after we lost our parents, my sister Manooshag, brother Vardges and I end up in an orphanage. It was night and the three of us were together and suddenly the Turks entered the orphanage. They were looking for the teenager girls and they took my sister Manooshag who was fourteen. I asked her if she can write a letter to me, but she replied how? I never saw her. During the night Vardges had a very high fever. He asked me if I could give him water to drink. There was ash water and everyone was drinking from that water. I gave ash water to him, but he refused to drink it. In the morning I tried to wake him up, but no luck, he was dead. The people in the orphanage took his body and I never knew what they did with his body. I prayed to the Lord a lot, because He was my only hope. Next, there was an Armenian young man, who knew my father and helped me get out from that place which we called the orphanage. His name was Khachadoor Gyozalyan and we got married. We went to Syria and we stayed in Syria until 1946, where we had five children. In 1946 we moved to Soviet Armenia. Rev. Fr. Vart Gyozalyan

TODAY S GOSPEL READING The Wedding at Cana John 2:1-11 2 On the third day two people were going to be married at Cana in Galilee. The mother of Jesus was there: 2 And Jesus with his disciples came as guests. 3 When they had not enough wine, the mother of Jesus said to him, they have no wine. 4 Jesus said to her, Woman, this is not your business; my time is still to come. 5 His mother said to the servants, whatever he says to you, do it. 6 Now six pots of stone, every one taking two or three firkins of water, were placed there for the purpose of washing, as is the way of the Jews. 7 Jesus said to the servants, Make the pots full of water. And they made them full to the top. 8 Then he said to them, now take some, and give it to the master of the feast. So they took it to him. 9 After tasting the water which had now become wine, the master of the feast (having no idea where it came from, though it was clear to the servants who took the water out) sent for the newly-married man, 10 And said to him, Every man first puts out his best wine and when all have had enough he puts out what is not so good; but you have kept the good wine till now. 11 This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee and let his glory be seen openly; and his disciples put their faith in him. GODFATHER OF THE CROSS Jeff Beeny - Godfather of the Cross During the Blessing of the Water Service last Sunday, celebrating the Baptism of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the very special privilege of serving as Godfather of the Cross this year was extended to one of our parishioners Jeff Beeny & his son William Beeny. On this occasion, Jeff had the responsibility of Bearing the Holy Cross after it had been submerged in the Blessed Holy Water and welcoming the faithful to kiss the Cross, as they receive the Blessed Water. Armenian Church at Hye Pointe extends its thanks to Dro Kanayan who served as Godfather of the Cross last Year.

These include the grotesque massacre two weeks ago in Paris, France, and the ongoing tragedy involving persecution in the Middle East which has affected our own people along with our sister Christian communities in the region. Then this week came the shocking reports of a horrific crime in Gyumri, Armenia: six family members brutally murdered in their home, in what can only be called an act of deranged wickedness. Our countrymen have gathered by the thousands in Gyumri to express their outrage. The suspected culprit, a Russian soldier, is in custody; but it is unclear how, or by whom, justice will be meted out. Today our Diocese joins our Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin in expressing unquenchable sorrow at the killings. We remember the names of the victims in our prayers: Sergey and Hasmik Avetisian, the patriarch and matriarch of the family; their adult daughter, Aida; their adult son, Armen, and his wife Araxi; and two-year-old Hasmik, daughter of Armen and Araxi. Please remember the departed Avetisians this Sunday, and pray for the repose of their souls during the hokehankisd service. A seventh member of the family six-month-old Sergey (Seryozha) is the sole survivor of the attack, but is in critical condition after suffering stab wounds. Please pray for him for his physical recovery in the days to come, and for his spiritual strength in the days and years to follow. For us as Armenians, the year 2015 arrived already laden with sorrowful associations: of innocent lives lost, suffering endured, and justice denied. How dispiriting it is, at the dawn of this 100th year since the Armenian Genocide, to be reminded so soon that inhumanity still reigns in this world, despite the superficial advances of the past century. There are very few words of wisdom or consolation to offer in the face of such dreadful episodes except for the assurance that our risen Lord knows the sufferings of his children, and will remember them when he establishes his kingdom, where true peace and justice will finally prevail. It is to Jesus Christ we pray today and in the days to come for the souls of the departed, and for an end to the afflictions tormenting our world. In the immortal words of our Divine Liturgy: Ungal, getso, yev voghormya Receive our prayers, save your people, and have mercy. With prayers, Archbishop Khajag Barsamian Primate
