The Journal of the Cascade Mountain Men January, 2010 Minutes of the Cascade Mountain Men December 15th, 2009 Meeting was called to order at 8:05 P.M. by Treasurer, Andy Williamson. Neither President Greg Field nor Vice President Jerry Jazbec were present. 11 members were present. Minutes of the December meeting were approved. Treasurer's report. The treasurer's report was read and approved by the members present. The CMM Officers President Greg Field greguzzi@comcast.net Vice-President Jerry Jazbec J_jazbec@hotmail.com Treasurer Andy Williamson Awilli02@sprynet.com Secretary Steve Baima Percman48@comcast.net Range Officers Bruce Fischer Darrell Kapaun Booshway Vacant Trustees John Abbott Dick Armstrong Margret Evanson Chuck Lacher Joe Schroeder Webmaster Karen Martin karen.mom@comcast.net cascademountainmen.com COMMITTEE REPORTS LEGISLATIVE: Read a newsletter from Dave Workman. Not much had transpired in the legislative arena, by the time of our meeting. Several items have developed since. State Senator Adam Klein (D) introduced SB 6396 which would ban the sale of "assault" rifles. This is in the wake of the recent shooting of local police officers. I sent my letter of opposition to this bill, to my representatives. I received written responses very quickly. Some of the responses were non-committal, stating that the State finances were the pressing issues for this session. Others were against this bill. A second bill was introduced, that would make the possession of a firearm a felony, if one had a no-contact order issued against them. More lunacy! I voiced my 2 cents worth on each of these proposals - did you? Follow the link below. Reminder: You can provide your input to anyone, at any level of government. You only need to provide your name and address. This cuts down on prank e-mails. https://writerep.house.gov/htbin/wrep_findrep LAND: We discussed the land matter that Bubba Hines suggested in the Shelton area. I spoke with the realtor. It sounded like the property was "land locked" and had wetland issues. Probably not the best prospect for a rendezvous or club property. WSMLA. Walt Christenson presented a very thorough report for WSMLA as well as from the game management advisory council. Walt is the vice chairman for now but will be the chairman for the next 2 years. He reported on the allocation of deer and elk, between the 3 big user groups - Modern firearms, bow hunters and muzzle loaders. One variable in the equation however, is the introduction of 5 wolf dens in the state. The game council is very much opposed to this and have sent their notice of opposition to the Washington State Game department. Newsletter Editor Steve Baima Percman48@comcast.net

WSMLA Report (continued) Walt reported that the WSMA newsletter has incorrectly reported the dates and times for the Puyallup Sportsmen's show. They are Wednesday, 2-27 from noon to 8 PM. The same times for the 28th and 29th. On Saturday 2-30, the show will run from 10:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. On Sunday, from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. We are still looking for folks to help out at this show. Contact Walt at (206) 878-4907. The WSMLA annual banquet will be held April 10th. Contact Mark Rumbaugh at (253) 858-0563 for more information. RANGEMASTER: Match scores are reported in the news letter. For all 2010 events, please check the following web site http://www.wamuzzleloaders.org/. RENDEZVOUS: GUN SHOW: John Abbott reported that the number of vendors for this year's show, exceeds anything in the past history of our group. More registrations are filing in every day. OLD BUSINESS Andy has contacted the IRS regarding our tax status. They have confirmed that we are still a non-profit organization. They are sending appropriate forms to Andy for annual filing to maintain this non-profit status. NEW BUSINESS John Abbott reported that the Seattle Trap and Skeet club is in need of another organization to "under write" future grants for which they are applying. According to his brief report, if Cascade Mountain Men were to become co-signers to their grants, we could benefit significantly through potential use of their land and facilities. There were many questions regarding this proposition. John said that he would obtain more information. More and better information will be available at a future meeting. Good of the Order We are in a new year now. Unless you are carrying a membership card that states that you are a life member, your annual dues for 2010 is due. I will be sending out membership cards to all paid members that didn't already receive theirs. Please drop me a line (or E-mail) if you do not wish to continue your membership. We have had several new members sign up in the past several months. Laurie is always searching for information for the newsletter for the Issaquah Sportsmen's club. She said that she could use articles related to black powder shooting. Questions or comments regarding information in this newsletter may be directed to the secretary. Phone or E-mail please (425) 865-8965 or percman48@comcast.net. It is noted in this news letter that one requirement of membership to Cascade Mountain Men is outlined in Article V of our Bylaws, which states: Membership in good standing, in any one of the National Rifle Association, the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, or the Washington State Muzzle Loading Association shall be a prerequisite for membership in CMM. Please provide the secretary with your membership information in any of the above organizations. Thank you.
