Monthly Newsletter two One church meeting in two venues Cuffley & Potters Bar Welcome! The theme of this months Newsletter is LOVE. God s Love can be expressed in many ways. Previously we shared how this was happening with the work of BLAZE. This month we include an example of how this is happening on the Oakmere Estate through CHRYSALIS, under the leadership of Roger & Jenny Taylor. How to Love the Unlovable RICK WARREN Church Members Dates Thursday 3 rd March Vision meeting - Thursday 9 th June Vision meeting - 7.30pm 7.30pm Sunday 25 th September AGM after morning service @ Cuffley The Vision Meetings are held at 7.30 pm at our Cuffley Campus. These meetings are for those who are members or regular attenders of Life Church. Philippians 1:7a (NIV): It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart. I ve discovered that if people are not on my heart, they re on my nerves. If you don t have your kids in your heart, they get on your nerves. If Our Vision Statement: To Grow through Living Out the Great Commandment and the Great Commission
you don t have your husband in your heart, he gets on your nerves. The reason so many marriages are crumbling is that mates are reacting to each other from their minds rather than their hearts. When your wife says, I feel depressed, listen to her; it s legitimate. When your husband says, I don t feel this is the right thing for us to do, and I think we ought to do it this other way, listen to him. Heart love begins with understanding why others feel the way they do. Ask questions, and then listen. Hear the hurt, look for the problems, and know what makes your mate tick. You need to understand the moods of the people closest to you why they act the way they do. If you care, you ll be aware. How do you love people when, even when you do understand them, you find them unlovable? Philippians 1:8 (NIV): God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus. In Greek, the word affection is the word for intestines. In Greek society, people thought that the seat of the emotions was in your stomach and your liver. Paul was saying, I ve got a gut feeling of love for you. That is not a natural kind of love. It is a supernatural kind of love. That s why Paul said it s not from himself, but it s the affection of Christ Jesus. Human love wears out and dries up and dies on the vine. The only kind of love that lasts in spite of heartache and difficulty in tough circumstances is God s love the affection of Jesus Christ. So how do you get this kind of gut love? God s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us (Romans 5:5b). God s love is not something you work up. It is something that is poured into you by the Holy Spirit as you let him live in you day by day. Talk It Over Make it a habit this month to give your full attention to people as you listen, ask them thoughtful questions, and show genuine concern. What are people s reactions? Who do you need to express God s supernatural love to today? How have you seen God s love pour through you to others as you are more aware of the Holy Spirit in you?

Chrysalis - Roger & Jenny Taylor We moved out of our rented flat and into our own home just before Christmas. It s still in the centre of the Oakmere estate, but gives us a more adaptable base to work from. The basic structure of the work here continues to be a range of voluntary activities and projects, funded by part-time paid work with Sense, Herts County Council, preaching engagements, and occasional consultancies. However, our sense is that the work on the estate will change and evolve now that we have our own base to work from. There are so many possibilities, and only so much time! Here are just a few of the area we are involved with... SENSE Jenny continues to enjoy her work with Sense (the deafblind charity), and is building strong relationships with a number of regular clients of all ages and abilities as she helps them access their worlds. WAYSIDE A partnership with the local Community centre (Wayside) has come to fruition with Roger working with them as a part-time community worker. YOUTH CONNECTIONS In addition Youth Connexions have appointed him as a part-time youth worker on this estate, and that work is beginning to take root. SCHOOLS WORK The volunteer work continues for both of us in the primary school and the children s centre, where Jenny also runs a crèche. Perhaps best of all, there s a growing sense of belonging in the community, with nearly every journey outside our home including a chat with someone. We feel not only called here, but that we belong here. CHRYSALIS GATHERINGS With the arrival of 2016 comes the start of a monthly gathering of people interested in being involved in building the Kingdom of God on this estate. We aim to meet (mostly) on the 3 rd Sunday of each month, for a simple meal, explore the bible, share communion, pray, and plan ahead. The key words are relaxed, informal, and engaging and we hope to include people at all stages of faith. If you re local, then please feel free to join us between 5 and 8pm on the following Sundays in 2016: 28/2, 20/3, 17/4, 22/5, 19/6, 17/7, 21/8, 18/9, 16/10, 20/11, 18/12/16 Perhaps more importantly, we d value your prayers as we seek to draw people into deeper expressions of faith as they participate in building shalom in Oakmere. Chrysalis Newsletter This is available at both campuses and also on the Life Church Web Site: www.lifechurch.uk.com
