Use the monthly song provided with the curriculum to lead your preschoolers in worship and then settle them for the memory verse and Bible story. These scripts are written to be told and not read. Advanced preparation is necessary. First Look offers weekly introductory sketches and Bible stories on the DVD titled Wonder, Look at God s Story. What You Need: Paperclip Memory Verse Card (from the Week One Activity Pages on the Website) in your Bible at Deuteronomy 10:17. You will also need a CD player and this month s worship song, Good, Good Father, which you will need to download from the Website. You will also need a Bible. LEADER: Hello, hello, friends. I can t wait to sing with you. But first, tell me: Who s got it? CHILDREN and LEADER: [Bottom Line] God s got it. LEADER: Yes! [Bottom Line] God s got it. Let s sing this month s song. (Lead children in singing Good, Good Father, this month s worship song.) Wonderful singing, my friends. Tell me: Who s got it? CHILDREN and LEADER: [Bottom Line] God s got it. LEADER: Yes indeed, [Bottom Line] God s got it. Who can help me remember what we do next? We sang our first song. What do we do now? (Pause.) Yes! We say our memory verse. Are you ready to say it with me? He is the great God, (point both hands up) the mighty (muscle arm right) and awesome (muscle arm left) God (point both hands up), Deuteronomy 10:17. (Hold hands open like a book.) Let s do it again. CHILDREN and LEADER: He is the great God, (point both hands up) the mighty (muscle arm right) and awesome (muscle arm left) God (point both hands up), Deuteronomy 10:17. (Hold hands open like a book.) LEADER: Yes! You ve got it totally memorized now! Way to go! Our Bible story is SO awesome today! And remember, if it s in the Bible (hold up Bible), it is completely true. This Bible story is about a guy named Daniel. Daniel loved God and did all that He said. Every day, Daniel prayed, thanking God for the day. But there was a king named Darius whose friends told him to make a new rule. The new rule said that if anyone prayed to anyone other than the king, then they d be thrown Curriculum Materials for 3- through 5-year-olds 2017 The rethink Group. into a den of hungry lions. YIKES! I might be a little afraid if the king wanted to throw me to some lions, but not Daniel. Even when he heard the new rule, Daniel still prayed to God. Every day, three times a day, Daniel prayed. How many times? CHILDREN: Three! LEADER: Yes! Let s count to three together. CHILDREN and LEADER: One, two, three! LEADER: Daniel trusted God. He knew that God was in control and that [Bottom Line] God s got it. So even with the new rule, Daniel kept praying. Count with me. CHILDREN and LEADER: One, two, three! LEADER: Well, this did not make King Darius very happy. He liked Daniel, but a rule was a rule. So King Darius ordered that Daniel be thrown into the den of hungry lions! Yikes! The king said to Daniel, I hope your God will save you, and then he put Daniel inside the lions den! The king was very worried, but Daniel was not worried. God sent an angel who closed the mouths of all the lions! Daniel was safe! See, God s got it. He protected Daniel all night long. The next morning, the king ran to the lions den to check on Daniel. And he was just fine! The king was overjoyed! Daniel trusted in God and God protected him. And we can trust God too. He loves us, He protects us, and we don t have to worry, because [Bottom Line] God s got it! Who s got it? [Bottom Line] God s got it. Now let me hear it from you. Tell me: Who s got it? CHILDREN and LEADER: [Bottom Line] God s got it! LEADER: God is in charge. He protected Daniel and He will also protect you. Let s pray together. God, thank You for the way You protected Daniel. He trusted You and we do too. Help us to remember that no matter what happens, You ve got this because You are awesome. We love You. In Jesus name, amen. Make It Stick (Application Activities, 10 minutes) These activities are designed to help preschoolers understand and remember today s Bible story and Bottom Line. 1. Shield of Protection Shield of Protection is an activity that uses fine motor skills and creativity to review today s Bible story. What You Need: God Protects Me Shield and God Protects Me Images Activity Pages, white cardstock, scissors, crayons, and glue sticks What You Do: Before the Activity: Copy the God Protects Me Shield and the God Protects Me Images from onto white cardstock and cut out/apart. You ll need one God Protects Me Shield and one set of God Protects Me Images for each child. During the Activity: Pass out the shields for the children to color. Talk about how God protected Daniel from the lions in our Bible story today. Then pass out the God Protects Me Images for the children to color. Hold up each image and review this month s Bible stories. Week 1: Fire God is always with me. Week 2: Ear God always hears me. Week 3: Torch and pot God teaches me the way to go. Week 4: The shield itself God protects me. Encourage the children to glue each image to the correct box on their shield. What You Say: Before the Activity: All month long, we ve been learning that [Bottom Line] God s got it! This shield reminds us that just as God protected Daniel, he protects us too! Do you see the other three boxes on your shield? (Point out.) I have some pictures that I want you to glue onto your shield. During the Activity: For Week 1, this fire reminds me that God is always with me. He was with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace and He is with us too. For Week 2, this ear reminds me that God always hears me. He heard Hagar s cry when she ran out of food and water for her son, and God gave them what they needed. For Week 3, the torch and pot reminds me that God teaches me the way to go. God showed Gideon where to go and what to do so that he could win the battle against the bad guys. And this week, we learned that God protected Daniel from those hungry lions like a shield protects you. Will He protect us too? Yes! Who s got it? [Bottom Line] God s got it. (Let children glue the different images onto their shields.) After the Activity: Your shields look awesome! These different images on your shields remind me about all the amazing things we learned about God and His power this Curriculum Materials for 3- through 5-year-olds 2017 The rethink Group.
