From Your Pastor ~ Last year, First Baptist Church voted to issue to both Cindy Mapstone and Damon Gagnier a license for ministry. At that time we began a process that we believe will lead to ordination of each into Christian ministry as pastors. Cindy is in the final stage of the preparation for ordination. On Sunday afternoon, June 7 th, our church has called for an Ordination Council which will occur at 3 p.m. in our church sanctuary. Hold on! Council? What is an Ordination An ordination council is a gathering of delegates from the churches of our Association who will listen to Cindy describe her understanding of the Christian faith and her call to ministry. The delegates will ask questions and vote to recommend to us whether or not to proceed with her ordination. Hold on! You re moving too fast! Back up a bit and tell me about our Association. Our church has chosen to associate with 40 other like-minded Baptist churches in our area (Cayuga, Cortland, Onondaga and Oswego Counties). We call this the Iroquois Association of American Baptist Churches. One of the several functions of the Association is the examination of a candidate for ordination the Ordination Council. Each church may send a pastor and two delegates. If the Ordination Council votes to recommend that we ordain Cindy, her ordination will be recognized by all the churches in the American Baptist Churches/USA. Wow! Can I attend the Ordination Council? You are welcome to come. Only our designated delegates will be able to ask questions and vote. The event you really want to attend is her ordination. What is the Ordination and when will it happen? First Baptist Church will plan and conduct a worship service at which time we will ordain Cindy. We will ask for God s blessing on Cindy and her ministry. There is a special time in this service called the Laying on of Hands. This is a biblical practice, followed by Baptists, which acknowledges our belief that Cindy is called by God to this ministry. We won t officially schedule this service until after the vote of the ordination council, but we expect the service will be Sunday, June 28 th. What did you mean when you said, This ministry? God gives many gifts for ministry in God s church. One of these gifts is the gift to be a pastor to lead a church to hear God s call on their lives and serve in a unified way. Cindy is already serving as a pastor at what is now called, The Fabius Christian Church. More questions? Don t hesitate to ask. This is an important and exciting process for Cindy and our church. Keep Cindy and Damon in Prayer as they proceed forward toward ordination. Faithfully, Pastor Leon PS Congratulations Cindy on your graduation from Northeastern Seminary on May 16 th.

NEWS FROM THE TRUSTEES ~ Jill Doss has been appointed by the Trustees to fill in the position of Financial Secretary that was left vacant due to the sudden death of our friend and servant of the Lord, Carole Guynup. We are currently working on improving our Financial System. This would improve our reporting of financial information to the congregation and help our King's Kids, Playschool, and Church accounting to be more uniform. We are also revisiting the need for a Church Security System. If anyone would be interested in helping in these two areas, please talk to Jo Ann Mostar (682-6802), Trustees Chair or Pastor Leon. June 2009 ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING Dear Friends, Jesus said "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." For God we are treasure: "You are children of the Lord your God...It is you the Lord has chosen...to be His people, His treasured possession. (Deuteronomy 14:1-2) One of the gifts of being God's children is that sometimes we are called to be "treasure tenders" for God. We tend God's treasure here in our congregation with the love and care we show each other. We also are invited to tend God's treasure beyond our congregation by participating in ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING. By sharing some of our earthly treasure ~ our money, our time, our energy ~ aid is sent wherever and whenever disaster strikes. Please give this June! Our goal is $1200.00. Jill Doss, Chair Sincerely, Your Mission Board Sally Lyon, Secretary Shirley Mapstone Tom Shephard Ann Morales WHEELS FOR THE WORLD On May 20th, we shipped 55 wheelchairs plus wheelchair parts, walkers and crutches to Wheels for the World. Thanks to Tom Biviano and Doug Greene who are overseeing this ministry. Also thank you to several partners in this effort: Community Covenant Church in Manlius has helped us store the wheelchairs. The Teen Challenge program provided a truck and volunteers to load and deliver the chairs to the Canandaigua collection point. WMHR radio station that regularly makes an announcement about this ministry. From Canandaigua the chairs will be delivered to a prison in Ohio where they are repaired. From Ohio the refurbished chairs are shipped to third world countries where the need for wheelchairs is great.
