September 2011 Random Facts... The Eisenhower interstate system requires that one mile in every five must be straight. These straight sections are usable as airstrips in times of war or other emergencies. Rhode Island is the smallest state with the longest name. The official name, used on all state documents, is "Rhode Island and Providence Plantations." There are two credit cards for every person in the United States. It would take 11 Empire State Buildings, stacked one on top of the other, to measure the Gulf of Mexico at its deepest point. The first person selected as the Time Magazine Man of the Year - Charles Lindbergh in 1927. The Newsletter of Calvary Baptist Church Volume 137, Issue 9 September 11, 2011 We go back to two service and Bible study times on Sunday mornings 9:00am & 10:30am. Sunday Night Kick-Off: Calvary will offer Bible studies for the adults and college taught by our ministerial staff, youth igroups will begin, 4 years old - 6th grade will have children's musical rehearsal, and 3 and below will go to nursery. On the new hundred dollar bill the time on the clock tower of Independence Hall is 4:10. Each of the suits on a deck of cards represents the four major pillars of the economy in the middle ages: heart represented the Church, spades represented the military, clubs represented agriculture, and diamonds represented the merchant class.

This December our worship choir will present God Coming Down, a Praise and Worship Christmas with Travis Cottrell. Fresh, new songs are mixed with classic Christmas carols. Beginning September 11 please join our choir on Sundays at 4:00 p.m. in the worship center to prepare this beautiful celebration of the birth of Jesus. Everyone grade 7 and up is invited to attend. CHILDREN S CHRISTMAS MUSICAL Dec. 11 th @ 6:00 p.m. Students grades 1-3 led by Brenda Lofton will team up with preteens grades 4-6 led by Robin Davis to present Back to the Manger: A Caroling Adventure Through Time. This fun, energetic Christmas presentation does a great job of connecting with the culture of today s kids. We want to invite all students grades 1-6 to join us for a kick off party on September 11 th in the multi-purpose room. Rehearsals will be on Sundays from 5:30 6:30 p.m. We also have a project for four year olds through Kindergarten called The Big Picture: Created to Connect, Serve, Share. This music curriculum not only teaches young children about worship and music, but also emphasizes missions across the world. Led by Lici Powell and Tanya Paul, this group will meet on Sundays from 5:30 6:30 p.m. in the Ocean Room. This group will do a presentation prior to the larger children s musical on Dec.11 at 6:00 p.m. WORSHIP AND DRAMA FOR YOUTH Beginning Sept. 11 we will begin a new youth drama ministry which will meet on Sundays at 4:00 p.m. in the multi-purpose room. This group led by Michelle Tolar is open to all students grades 9-12 who feel called to be used by God in the area drama related to thematic interpretation. During this time all middle school students who like to sing are encouraged to join the worship choir as it prepares God Coming Down for December. Overflow, our youth praise team, is seeking out additional singers as well as a drummer for the fall season. If you are a student grades 7-12 who may be interested in serving on this team, please contact Bro. Cary. Volume 137 Issue 9 Page 2
