In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, one God. Amen.

Begin with the Lord s prayer Our Lord and Savior, our King and God, we thank you for gathering us here to stand before you to call on your Holy Name. Heavenly Father, teach us to trust You in everything we do. Our God open our eyes, ears, hearts and minds that we may hear Your Word and transform (Change) our lives. Bless all the children and keep them safe. Hear us when we humbly and thankfully pray to you.

Our Father, who art in heaven Hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done On earth as it is in heaven Give us this day our daily bread And forgive us our trespasses As we forgive those who trespass against us And lead us not into temptation But deliver us from the evil one For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the Glory. Forever, Amen.

O our Lady, as St. Gabriel greeted you, Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. True Virgin in conscience as well as body, blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Holy Mary, the God-bearer, pray that your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, may forgive us our sins. Amen.

Crossing the Jordan River to the Promised land June 02, 2013

Memory Verse By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they had been encircled for seven days. Hebrews 11:30

At last the Israelites were there! They could look across the Jordan river and see the land that God had promised to them so long ago.

Its mountains towered over the green valleys. It had plenty of water and rich soil for growing vegetables and fruits. But best of all, after years of wandering in the desert, this would be their home.

But as they camped by the river, waiting to cross it and go into the Promised Land, Moses gave them some sad news.

He said, I am not going to enter the land with you. God has told me it is time for me to die. But God is giving you a new leader.

That was hard for the people to hear. They must have wondered what they would do without Moses to lead them. But Moses said God has chosen Joshua as their new leader. He will lead you into the promised land.

Moses and Joshua stood together at the door of the tabernacle, and God s pillar of cloud came and stood over them. The people knew that God has chosen Joshua.

Moses said to Joshua, Don t be afraid, for you will bring the people into the land God has promised to give them. The Lord Himself has promised to be with you.

Then God told Moses to go up on top of the mountain. From there God showed him the land of Canaan, and then Moses died. God himself buried Moses body. The Israelites were sad and cried for him for 30 days.

The Israelites promised to follow Joshua and always obey God s word. Wisely, the new leader sent spies into Canaan to study the defenses of the great city of Jericho. Israel s first battle will be fought there.

Somebody told the King of Jericho there were spies in town. He sent his soldiers to find them.

The search began at Rahab s house where the men were staying. The soldiers banged roughly on her door. Quickly, Rahab hid the men under some flax.

When the soldiers left, Rahab used a scarlet cord to lower the men down safely outside the city wall. Why did she help the spies? Because she knew God was with them. She wanted God to spare her life. The spies promised to save Rahab and her family.

The two men reported to Joshua that they could conquer the land.

Then God said it was time to move on. Joshua told them to roll up their tents and get ready to march to the promised land. They did just as Joshua said.

Joshua told them God s instructions. When you see the priest carrying the Ark of the covenant, follow them. When the people saw the priests walking toward the Jordan River with the ark of the Covenant, they remembered that God was leading them.

Before reaching Jericho, the Israelites had to cross the Jordan River into Canaan, the promised Land. But there was no bridge! How would the people cross?

God told Joshua that when the priests reached the Jordan River, they were to step into the water. Joshua commanded the priests to take the Ark of the Covenant across the river. That is just what they did.

As soon as their feet touched the edge of the water, the water stopped flowing. God piled the water up in a heap so that the river in front of them was completely dry. Then the priests crossed over into Canaan.

Ask Do you remember another time when God pushed the water back and made a dry path for His people to walk on? Where was that? Red Sea That was when the Israelites were just starting on their journey to the Promised Land. Now, 40 years later, as they were about to enter the Promised Land, God pushed the water back again.

After all the people had crossed safely, they placed twelve big stones in the river bed and another 12 stones on Canaan s river bank. These were reminders to help the people teach their children about God s great power and love.

Joshua became a great leader, winning the respect of the people.

One day an angel, a commander in the Lord s army appeared to Joshua and gave him instructions.

Jericho had strong thick walls. God told Joshua how to attack Jericho. It was a very strange plan. God s people had to march around the city once a day for six days, and seven times on the seventh day. Then they were to blow trumpets and shouts, and the city walls would fall down flat!

Following the instructions, Joshua and his family marched around the walls of Jericho for six days.

On the seventh day when the priests blew their horns.

And just as God had promised, the great walls of Jericho crumbled.

Only Rahab and her family were saved, with the city s treasure, which was given as an offering to the Lord. Rahab had left a red scarlet cord hanging from her window as a sign so she can be rescued.

Joshua dedicated Jericho s gold, silver and treasures to God s service. Then he placed a curse upon anyone who would rebuild the wicked city.

Soon everybody in Canaan heard how Joshua defeated Jericho. They knew that God was with His people.

Joshua s army continue to be successful in battle.

In one battle, Joshua prayed for the sun to stand still and it did, until the enemy army was destroyed.

Eventually Joshua gained control over the whole land, just as God had promised.

Then there was peace in the land.

When Joshua became an old man, he called together the leaders and the judges of Israel, and spoke to them.

He reminded them of their history and of their walk with God.

Joshua said, As for me and my house we will serve the Lord. What about you asked Joshua of the people?

The people answered we will worship and obey the Lord alone.

Then they erected a memorial stone and Joshua said; This stone will be a witness against you, if you go back on your promise.

Joshua was a good leader because he trusted and obeyed God. As long as Joshua was their leader, the Israelites trusted and obeyed God, too. But they did not do one very important thing: they did not teach their children about God. Ask Why do your parents bring you to Sunday School? To study the Bible and learn about God. But the Israelites forgot to tell their children the wonderful ways God had taken care of them. They did not teach them how important it was for them to worship God and do what he said.

After a while, Joshua and the other people God had led into Canaan died. Joshua was one hundred and ten years old when he died.

Their children had grown up without learning to love and trust God. They thought they did not need God. Some even started worshipping other idols. God sent prophets to remind them that they were God s people and they were to worship and obey Him only, but they did not pay attention. God punished them by sending an enemy to their land. God heard their cries when they repent and asked Him to forgive them. Even today, we need to ask God for help and always pray to Him.

Conclusion Joshua and His people were able to take Jericho because they followed closely what God told them to do. The same for us if we follow what God asks us to do we will get many blessing and good things from Him.

Movie Clip Show a short movie clip about the story, if available.
