Message from the Chairman of the Board Message from the Headmaster In Him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge -Colossians 2:3 (NLT) Just as brick buildings are built one brick at a time, the lives of our children are built with the wisdom and knowledge that comes from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Over the years, I've noticed four common gifts we need to give to the next generation: our presence, our acceptance, our guidance and our correction. The gift of your presence: sometimes just being there is what matters most to your children. (Rom. 12:15) That is the essence of empathy; it is the gift of presence. The gift of your acceptance: when you give your children the opportunity to be themselves and to become what God - not you - wants them to be, you give them a great legacy. The welcoming environment of acceptance is the atmosphere in which children bloom. (Luke 9:48) The gift of your guidance: children desperately need adults for guidance. They need direction and assistance from those of us who have already walked down the road. (Proverbs 22:6) The gift of your correction: the two most important corrective words you must teach your children early in life are "come" and "no." Children who never learn to respect and respond to authority will struggle their entire lives. (Proverbs 19:18) I want our community to know that the entire staff is working hard to give these four gifts to every child at Mount Zion Christian Schools. In His Service, Nick Dager And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?" -Esther 4:14b God has a purpose for each of us. Sharing this with the students of Mount Zion is a great honor. This year we are investigating God s plan for each of our lives. Our key word is destiny and we look to Jeremiah 29:11 for assurance that God has specific plans for us and they are to give us hope and a future. This is as true for the school, as the individual. God brought Mount Zion to Manchester for a purpose. Mount Zion Christian Schools provide an academically challenging, Christ-centered community that equips students with a Christian world-view grounded in the Scriptures to achieve excelence in God's unique purpose for them. Last year was a year of selfevaluation in preparation for our accreditation visit by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, and the Association of Christian Schools International. We look forward to sharing who we are as a school with them. We believe that God has set us here for a purpose, and we are blessed to share our efforts in meeting that purpose. Finance Report Mount Zion s community continues to provide funding for material donations and sweat equity. This is especially important since we rely on the Mount Zion community and beyond to volunteer their time in the office, classroom, in maintaining the building, etc., as well donating towards new equipment and technology, directed donations to students in financial need, etc. Your commitment to prayer and involvement is critical to the success of our school. We are a tuition-funded school, so donations are important to not only maintain our existing infrastructure, but also to expand what we can offer to our student body. This past year $14,000 was donated to purchase instructional technology such as new netbooks for the elementary and middle schools, interactive white boards and projectors. Money was also directed to put in the new middle school science lab. Library donations of $3500 allowed us to continue improvements and $5600 was received toward a new playground. Our children and programs are blessed by these gifts. Some of the biggest challenges we had in 2010, for the 2010-2011 school year, were related to retaining and recruiting new students. Due to the tough economic times, many families were unable to return or attend Mount Zion due to family financial hardship. It tears our heart to see this happening so we continue to ask you to join in praying, seeking and finding ways to help these families send their children to Mount Zion. To help reduce the financial burden, the Mount Zion School Board increased the tuition referral to $1000 per student/family enrolled by August 1. We still need all of you to continue to share the message of Mount Zion as well as invite prospective families to visit our school. This year the school has pledged $17,200 in need based scholarships to Mount Zion community families. Another $26,000 of direct scholarship funds are provided by individuals called of the Lord to assist families. From a promissory note perspective, Mount Zion owes $1,879,700 ($1,325,600 mortgage with Triangle Credit Union and $554,100 in community loans). God has blessed us with this school, staff, building, etc. We are in tough economic times and this reminds me of when the Hebrews were freed to leave Egypt, but once they got into the desert they lost their way. I believe God is asking us to not lose focus by seeking His face as well as to identify what each of us can do so we can continue Equipping Students for God s Purpose. I look forward to seeing what God has in store for 2010-2011. In His Service, David L. April MZCS Board Treasurer For 2009-2010, total revenue and income came in at $952,716. Total expenses amounted to $920,192. We finished the year with a net income of $32,914. We also had over $51,000 donated in directed capital donations. In the 2010 budget, the Board budgeted $120,000 towards unrestricted donations; unfortunately only $60,000 was received. Also, due to depreciation costs (dollars that are needed to maintain our existing building and infrastructure), we will show a small net loss for the year. Looking forward, we need to reinvest in our infrastructure and this is only possible through donations and increasing our student population.

2009 2010 Donors to Mount Zion Christian Schools We rely on the generous donations from our community and friends to be able to offer scholarships and now for our building program. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. MZCS Opportunities for Giving Annual Fund Drive By participating in our Annual Fund drive, you will be insuring that a quality Christian education is available to Christian families in the Manchester area. You will be partnering with many other Christians who believe that Christian schooling is an important component of making the Manchester area a beacon for Christ. Capital Improvement Fund Campaign The Capital Improvement Fund raises monies to make improvements on our building and programs. We are in real need at this time to secure funds that will allow us to put in the air-exchange system required by the city before we can obtain a permanent certificate of occupancy. We want to be able to plan improvements that will insure an enriching educational experience for our students. The Giving Society Our "Giving Society" is made up of members who believe in the mission of Mount Zion and want to make it a regular part of their gifts to the Lord. You are joining with us to secure the future of Mount Zion. Gifts may be designated as "Annual Fund" or "Capital Improvement Fund" or a percentage of each. The Zion Foundation The Zion Foundation is a group of lenders that are part of the 2007 Note Offering of Mount Zion Christian Schools, Inc. used to partially finance the purchase of our Titus Avenue property. The lenders are earning 4% on their investment. We are currently soliciting names of potential lenders. Please contact Bob Carter or Bob Jeffers for information. How You Can Join Us Mount Zion Christian Schools, Inc. is a non-profit organization with 501 c3 status. All donations are tax deductible. Please contact Bob Carter for a personal conference on how you might help. Remember also that many employers will match donations made to Mount Zion!
