You may also complete the survey online by going to the link below on the internet or scanning the QR code with your smart phone and QR reader app. http://survey.lcef.org/s3/stjohn-lutheran- Church-Wisconsin-Rapids-WI Sunday mornings will continue with the Gospel Project Chronological study that we have been utilizing the last few years. We are picking up where we left off in the spring, so most of you have the study guides. I will have specifics in the September newsletter, but tentatively we are going to start meeting again on Sunday, September 10, at 8:05 a.m. Monday afternoons we will be starting off with a new study #struggles: Following Jesus in a Selfie-Centered World. This will be a DVD based study, and materials (book and study guide) will be $20.00. If you want, you can order from Amazon, and there is also a Kindle edition of both, or indicate what you would like ordered on the sign-up sheet and we will get materials ordered for you. This will be a 5-session course and we will begin on Monday, September 11, at 1:30 p.m. Following the completion of this study we will delve into Hallmarks of Lutheran Identity as we commemorate the 500 th year of the Reformation.. Adult Bible Class Looking Ahead Hard to believe it is time to start thinking again of school starting up again, and of course that means the startup of Adult Bible Classes again. Circuit #17 Reformation 500 Events Martin Luther: An Idea That Changed the World will be shown at the UW Stevens Point University Center Theater on Wednesday, October 18 th, beginning at 6:00 p.m. Pastor Andy Weden from the Peace Campus Center has arranged for this showing of this movie, a PBS documentary. It s Still All About Jesus! Worship for Shut Ins Worship for Shut-Ins (WFSI) is a thirty-minute Christian worship experience featuring classic hymns, the Apostles Creed, the Lord s Prayer, and a 10-minute message by Lutheran Church Missouri Synod pastors. Beginning on June 28, 2015, RCCA will begin airing WSFI on Solarus Cable Channel 3 and Charter Cable Channel 985 on Sunday mornings at 6:30 am and Wednesday mornings at 8:00 am. WSFI can also be seen on Stevens Point Community TV (Charter Cable Channel 984) at the following times: Mondays 12:30 pm, Tuesdays 2:00 pm, Thursdays 2:30 pm, Fridays 10:30 am and Saturdays at 11:00 am. August 6, 2017 Ninth Sunday after Pentecost (Proper 13) Psalm: 136:1-9; Old Testament: Isaiah 55:1-3a; Gospel: Matthew 14:13-21 Jesus Takes Care of Hunger - Sermon Text: Matthew 14:13-21 - Rev. Dr. Walter A. Maier III We, as believers, have different types of hunger: physical hunger, but also a hunger for righteousness, and for spiritual knowledge. Jesus, for us, takes care of all these types of hunger. August 13, 2017 Tenth Sunday after Pentecost (Proper 14) Psalm: Psalm 34:4-8; Epistle: Romans 10:5-13; Gospel: Matthew 14:22-33 Faith s Focus - Sermon Text: Matthew 14:22-33 Rev. James L. Elsner Riding a bike, driving a car, bowling they all take concentration. Lose your focus and you ve got problems! So, who s the focus of your faith? August 20, 2017 Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost (Proper 15) Psalm: 67; Old Testament: Isaiah 56:1,6-8; Gospel: Matthew 15:21-28 In Praise of Leftovers - Sermon Text: Matthew 15:21-28 - Rev. Dr. Thomas R. Ahlersmeyer Leftover crumbs sound like scarcity and secondclass treatment. However, to a concerned mother in search of healing for her daughter, the leftovers of Jesus are more than enough! The abundance of blessings that we possess through the Gospel of Jesus Christ move us to gratefully praise divine leftovers, to sing forth How Great Thou Art! August 27, 2017 Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost (Proper 16) Psalm: 138; Old Testament: Isaiah 51: 1-6; Gospel: Matthew 16:13-20 Rock of Ages - Sermon Text: Matthew 16:13-20 - Rev. Paul E. Shoemaker A favorite hymn is Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me. It reminds us that Jesus is the Rock of our salvatioin. Join us and St. Peter as we confess Jesus as the Rock of Ages. Page 2

(Matthew 6:9) August 20 "God's Dog" Speaker Emeritus of The Lutheran Hour: Rev. Dr. Ken Klaus Was Jesus being politically incorrect--or worse-- when He compared a Canaanite woman to a canine? To all of our lovely people over the age of 80 and to the families that helped them to be there, we greatly appreciated their company. Where would we be today without all their knowledge, humor, and love that they have blessed us with over the years. We had 75-80 people that attended, which was a full house. Thank You again the Reflections Committee Page 3
