2 Welcome to Stella Maris in Baileys Harbor, Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, Jacksonport, Sister Bay & Washington Island Thomas Crane/Adelheid Siebert July 21, 2018-2:00 pm-baileys Harbor Joseph Buettner/Danielle Luisi July 21, 2018-2:00 pm-egg Harbor Alexander Chapman/Kristine Newman August 4, 2018-2:00 pm-baileys Harbor Willalbert Weyenberg/Natalie Lord August 4, 2018-2:00 pm-egg Harbor St. Vincent depaul Health & Wellness NOTES FROM THE NURSE: In the Gospel today, we see how Jesus sent his Apostles out two by two. From the beginning of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, members visit in pairs two by two, those who are poor and needy in their homes. It is there, in the family setting, that Vincentians listen, offer humble advice and render assistance. Our Stella Maris conference makes many of these home visits each month. There are many who are in need right here in Northern Door County. Our first goal is to simply listen and ascertain how we might best help in so many different situations. It is the personal contact that allows us to bring comfort, advice and often some emergency aid to those who are suffering. Our efforts are supported by you. Certainly your financial help helps us support more people. Your prayers are a source of hope to those who visit the poor and to those who are asking for assistance. Your interest in our mission is an inspiration to us as we grow in our faith and service. On June 28 we had our major fundraiser, Strawberry Fest. Thanks to so many businesses here in Door County, so many of our parishioners and guests who worked in so many capacities and the over 500 people who came to enjoy homemade shortcake, the bake sale and raffle. It was a grand success. There are just too many to mention but we thank all of you on behalf of our mission and the people we serve. DIABETES What to do when you are first diagnosed with Diabetes? When diagnosed with diabetes, you may feel shocked, worried and/or sad. It can be overwhelming to think about what you need to learn and the lifestyle changes you have to make. Take a breath and relax. Overtime you will become an expert at living with diabetes. First, focus on tackling these initial steps: Follow an Eating Plan: With the help of your healthcare team create an individualized meal plan which should simplify the process of choosing what and how much to eat. A handy rule of thumb is: for a balanced meal, fill one-half of your plate with non-starchy vegetables, one-fourth with a whole grain or starchy vegetable and one-fourth with a lean protein food. Begin an Exercise Routine: A good starter goal is to be more active on most days of the week, working up to at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise 5 days a week. Take Your Medication Correctly: If your doctor prescribes medicine, take it exactly as directed. If side effects occur contact your physician don t just stop your medicine. Schedule Checkups and Tests: See your healthcare team regularly and have your blood pressure checked each time. Your health care team will monitor your Hb A1c, cholesterol, kidney function, eyes and foot care. Make a Meal Plan: You can find ideas for diabetes friendly meals online www.diabetes.org/mfa-recipes and click on One-Day Meal Plan. (Adapted from WPS Wise and Well)

5 Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time-July 15, 2018 Worship and Music Column POLICY FOR PARISH ENTRYWAYS AND PEWS As described in Built of Living Stones: Art, Architecture and Worship issued by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, The gathering space is a place of welcome..... it helps believers to make the transition from everyday life to the celebration of the liturgy. In the gathering space, people come together to move in procession and to prepare for the celebration of the liturgy. In an effort to create a less cluttered and more welcoming space to all who enter our churches, the Worship Commission was asked by our pastor to create an entryway policy. The Parish Leadership Team approved this policy last September. Over the past six months, you may have noticed some of the changes in our church entryways: Bulletin boards were removed. Entryways have been painted. Only diocesan posters and Mass time announcements are posted on the walls or doors to church. Clear upright plastic display cases are provided at each church in which to place timely pamphlets, bookmarks and informative flyers. Pictures of Pope Francis, Bishop Ricken and Father Dave are displayed together. Notifications of upcoming events that previously included flyers on the bulletin boards or in pews may be added to the weekly bulletins, if the parish organization feels that is important. The cost to print bulletin inserts will come out of each organization s budget. Guidelines for Informational Literature 1. All materials placed in the entryway must come through the parish office and be issued by either Stella Maris Parish, a recognized Parish organization or the Diocese of Green Bay. 2. Informational literature placed on the entryway tables or ledges will be in clear upright plastic display cases. This includes parish or diocesan information sheets, Stella Maris Parish sponsored pamphlets, 8½ X 11½ posters, and approved bookmarks and holy cards. It does not include items that parishioners or visitors decide to leave on the table to share with others. 3. Other items that may be on the entryway tables include the current issue of The Compass, the Health and Wellness Binder, the Book of Prayer Intentions, Advent/ Christmas or Lent/Easter reflection booklets. 4. Dated informational literature should be removed after the given date by the group that is requesting information be displayed. 5. Half or whole sheets of paper containing announcements for your parish organization will not be placed in the pews. Please contact the church office and use the previously described ways to publicize your message. 6. Anything placed on the entryway tables or in the pews, which doesn t follow these guidelines, will be removed. Thank you for your cooperation in making our entryways uncluttered, welcoming spaces!
