The Carillion May 2017 Letter from Pastor Michelle Dear Saron Lutheran, Saron Lutheran Church 708 8 th Street PO Box 517 Hoquiam, WA 98550 (360)532-4611 Staff Pastor Michelle de Beauchamp Administrative Assistant April Montes-Hamm Music/Worship Director Kari Hasbrouck Custodial Care Lillian Matheson Treasurer Sandie Mullikin Council Members Marilynn Anderson Elichia Enzler Karla Johnson Cathy Kallio Gretchen Klein Tom Owzarski Tim Pelan Carole Sandstrom Kim Worsham First and foremost I want to say let s keep this momentum going! We had so many successes this past month: tthe Easter Youth Breakfast, Martha s Circle Tea and Fashion Show, the Relay Ravioli Dinner, a great Holy Week, and we got tons of new people coming and wanting to be part of the church! And here we are. Now at the beginning of something new and exciting. We are taking a leap of faith. This reminds me of the verse from Revelation when God from the throne says See I am making all things new. We are still who we are in our history, but being made new creations by God. It can be scary with this big leap of faith we are taking Our brothers and sisters at the Presbyterian church are taking an even greater leap of faith by joining us and risking so much. This is not what they call a merger of survival - when churches join together to keep their numbers up and to make ends meat. This is a merger of mission. The Presbyterians are bringing with them their people, their things, their time, talents and treasurers. This is a joining of two congregations answering the call from God to be different and try new things that will make us even more impactful and part of the community in Hoquiam. Yes it is a risk but it is a risk for the sake of the gospel! We live in a wonderful county where the majority are not part of any religious tradition. This is a way we will be able to be more visible in our community to show what Christianity is about Jesus and God s Grace. (continued on Page 4) Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:16

Page 2 The Carillion Letter from Council President Greetings and Happy May! Change is hard for many people. Be it change we can control, or change beyond our control. There are many people who would prefer for their lives to stay the same. Unfortunately, change is inevitable. In many instances change can be positive, even if the change initially seems negative. God never closes a door without opening a window! We are in the process of renewal here at Saron Lutheran Church. It is an exciting time, but also a bit scary because renewal begets change. The special meeting this pass Sunday was a huge marker of change in the history of Saron. The vote was for the Rose Project and deciding whether or not to combine worship services with First Presbyterian. It passed 49 to 2. What a joyful thing to enter into mission, as Saron and 1st Presbyterian sharing in worship and Ministry! We are coming together to reach outward with the hope and good intention of a community center eventually being created at the site of 1 st Presbyterian. This is something the renewal committee and council have discussed and prayed over for almost a year. It is an amazing opportunity to combine two historic congregations into one amazing flock, and the potential for change is endless. I ll end my letter with a quote from Song of Solomon 2:11-12 For behold, the winter is past. The rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land. May this spring find you happy and healthy, with a clear heart and mind. God Bless, Elichia Enzler Saron Lutheran Council President

Call Pastor at home 24/7 if there is an emergency. Phone number is 360-637-9766 And being a disciple of Jesus means we are called and taught by him to be welcoming to all, to help our neighbors and to love one another. We will have questions and fears during this time of transition. Please ask them! Share them with me, the renewal team and/or council. We are hear to support you and listen. We need to ask all the questions so this goes as well and positive as it can. And now since this wonderful thing is starting to take place of us coming together it is something we can unite around. It is something we can have a drive toward. This summer we will be doing tasks around Saron like power washing, deep cleaning, organizing, and other little things. I will also be starting to plan out new ministries for us in the fall and develop the ones we already have going this means some new materials might be needed. We need help with all these tasks. Please if you have time volunteer an hour here or there. If you are going out of town please do not forget to send your tithe in. It s those summer months when attendance is down, but the activities of annual maintenance and planning for the fall and winter happen. We have some amazing things coming up and we want all of you to be part of these wonderful opportunities to give back with your time, talents, and treasures. Thank you so much for all you do and all you give. Everyone here is truly a blessing. Thank you for taking this leap of faith and being part of the Body of Christ. Peace, Pastor Michelle
