B.K.S.Iyengar Yoga Institute Amsterdam http://www.iyengaryogaamsterdam.com Intermediate Junior Teacher Training Program The B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga Institute Amsterdam announces an intensive yoga course to prepare yoga students holding an Introductory II teacher certificate for Intermediate I & II assessment. We realized that we have to accommodate students with different agenda s and wishes and coming from different countries. Finally we came to the conclusion that the best option would be a compact training course. Especially students from far away will benefit from a compact program as they don t have to come so often to Amsterdam. The Intermediate teacher training course consists of 3 weekend workshops plus a 7 day intensive. The Intermediate Junior assessments will take place Saturday 23 & Sunday, February 24, 2008. Dates Saturday 28 & Sunday, April 29, 2007 Monday 16 thru Sunday, July 22, 2007 Saturday 6 & Sunday, October7, 2007 Saturday 26 & Sunday, January 27, 2007 Introductory weekend During the first weekend in April all the students will be personally evaluated by the teachers their teaching and their practice. As each student can learn from all the other students this will be group sessions. This means that all the students will be present during the whole weekend. During these classes the teachers will tell the students what their strong points and what their weak points are. The students have to present asanas and they will be invited to teach asanas. Their will be space for discussions monitored by the teachers. During this weekend the requirements concerning anatomy and philosophy will be discussed. Here the students will have to do homework. During the Summer week the anatomy and philosophy teachers will prepare the students for the exams. Both on Saturday and Sunday there will be 3 classes: 10.00 13.00 hrs 14.00 16.00 hrs 17.00 19.00 hrs see overleaf
- 2-7 day intensive The program during July 16 22 will be as follow: 10.00 13.00 hrs : practicing the asanas in the syllabus and teaching 14.00 16.00 hrs : alternating anatomy/ philosophy and self practice/teaching 16.00 18.00 hrs : practicing asanas/teaching, discussion, Q&A The first 3 days the emphasis will be on practicing the asanas from the syllabus and the other important asanas from the Introductory I & II levels. Gradually more time will be spent on the teaching. The students will teach each other in small groups monitored by the teachers. This in a situation similar to the exams. Evaluation weekend During the weekend of October 6 & 7 the progress of the students since the intensive Summer week will be evaluated. On Saturday morning the syllabuses Intermediate Junior I & II will be practiced. Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning the teaching skills of the students will be tested. Sunday afternoon there will be an evaluation of each student. In this session it will be clear who has earned the the recommendation for taking the assessment by the Assessment committee of the BKS Iyengar Yoga Association Holland. As the staff of the BKS Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training Program feels strongly that students who want to do the assessment for Intermediate Junior I, II & III should be very well prepared by ways of a special study program they will only recommend those students who have successfully completed this teacher training program. Final weekend The weekend of January 26 & 27, 2008 should be considered as a grand rehearsal. All the accepted students are well prepared for the exams! We want to remind all candidates for assessment of the six steps of B.K.S.Iyengar s method for teaching: 1. Introduce the asana by giving its name first in Sanskrit and the in English ( or your own language) 2. Demonstrate the asana 3. Do the asana with te students; simultaneously teach and observe. See what is missing in the student s poses. 4. Demonstrate the asana again, giving further direction based on observation. 5. Have the students repeat the asana alone, to see what is missing in their poses. Give feeback by demonstration rather than just theory. 6. Observe whether the students are responding and following the instructions. The teacher should move on new points only when his or her instructions have been assimilated by most of the students in the class. Certification Mark The certification mark is a logo that pictures B.K.S.Iyengar in Natarajasana. It is his wish that this Certification Mark be used by all certified teachers throughout the world as an international symbol of the highest standards of excellence in training and continuing education in the Iyengar method. Note: The syllabuses can be due to changes.
