I have heard some of you say that we really don't have much to choose from this time around. Indeed. Let's remember several things as we go to the ballot box this November. God is sovereign and He is in control--he reigns. Psalm 2 God can use anyone to accomplish His purposes--even deeply flawed candidates. Cyrus in Ezra 1:1 Please do exercise your right and privilege in this democracy to choose your leaders by voting. Or refrain, if you believe there is no good choice. Proverbs 16:33 Whom we vote for matters--but please don't judge the faith or integrity of fellow believers based on politics. Romans 14:10 Do pray for our leaders. 1 Timothy 2:1 As believers let us respect the outcome. Romans 13 Let us remember that the first call of believers is to share the gospel. Mark 16:15 and Psalm 20:7 Let us pray for revival of our hearts and the church. Let us pray for our nation, for as the Weeping Prophet wrote so long ago in Jeremiah 29:7 "seek the welfare of the city to which I have sent you as exiles, and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare." God bless us, His children and may God bless our nation. Past E w r Session Highlights 1) Report from Presbytery of the Southeast meeting on October 2-3, 2016 Phil Inglis shared the highlights of the presbytery meeting he just attended. Two key leaders in POSE have announced their retirement (Jerry Clothier as Clerk, and John Perry as Treasurer). There are now 34 churches in our presbytery, and The Well: Women s Resources has been created by EPC leadership to support women as they seek to fulfill the mission and vision of the EPC. 2) Nominating Committee Report Bob Dresdow reported that the committee has identified the following nominees for Ruling Elders & Deacons for 2017: Ruling Elders: Bruce Kingshill for a 1-year term Thom Morgan for a 3-year term Wally Cook for a 3-year term Deacons: Will Roberts for a 1-year term Jeffrey Alt for a 2-year term - continued on next page -

Rick Boen for a 3-year term 3) HCA Agreement Bruce Kingshill reported on the revised agreement between Providence Church and HCA. It was agreed that monthly rental charges would be: $2,000/month for the 1st 5 years and $2,500/month for the next 5 years. The Church will also have right of first refusal should the school relocate. The HCA Board is currently considering consolidating their entire school on the New Covenant Church campus or purchasing the Central Elementary School facility. 4) Thanksgiving offering Instead of sending a Thanksgiving offering to the GO Center Coaches Network as suggested by EPC, the session agreed to divide all Thanksgiving offering to the Junaluska & N. Canton Bible Clubs. Phil Inglis will consult with the church volunteers working with these clubs. 5) Sanctuary steps & railing Bruce Kingshill reported that Mike Shelton will make four wooden steps for the stage in the Sanctuary and look into a removable metal railing. Barb Dresdow will make sure this will work for HCA also. The entire cost of this project will be covered by the Church. 6) Supply Minister for November 13th Pastor Edward confirmed that Skip McMillan will be preaching in his absence on November 13th. 7) Congregational Survey Bob Dresdow presented a short survey form for session members to use with their care groups. In addition, elders and staff members will complete a performance review survey for Pastor Edward. They will turn them in to Bob Dresdow to compile the results. Pastor Edward will also do evaluations of staff members. 8) Insurance Policy Update Bruce Kingshill reviewed the church insurance coverage and recommended the addition of an umbrella policy for 1 million additional liability coverage. HCA has also been added to the church policy. 9) Budget 2017 Review Bruce Kingshill shared the first draft of the church budget for 2017 as well as the Mission Committee budget requests. Session members are asked to review and send changes or questions to Bruce as soon as possible. 10) Birth of Loren Thomas Alt on September 27th was acknowledged. There will be a baby shower for Jennifer & Jeffrey Alt on November 6th after worship to celebrate! Annual Meeting November 20 th Please plan to attend this very important meeting. Following our morning worship service we will have a potluck Soup/Salad lunch, then continue with a meeting of the Corporation and a Congregational meeting. We will vote on the slate of new Elders and Deacons presented by the nominating committee, and nominations may also be made from the floor if the person nominated has agreed to serve. The 2017 Budget will be discussed and we will approve the terms of the minister s call. for the Alt family, to welcome Loren Thomas Alt. We will gather after our morning service to shower this family with love. Cake, coffee and punch will be served. The family is registered at Amazon.com (under Jenny s name). Poinsettias Orders For $15 you can order flowers in memory of OR in honor of someone as we decorate the sanctuary for the Advent season. Please fill out the form with your check or cash and place in the offering plate. Decorating for Advent We will be decorating the sanctuary on November 20 th, following our Congregational meeting. Please join us as we prepare for the Advent season.

Jack & Jill Update Good News!! This past Sunday, Jack's passport was RENEWED!! We are celebrating the Lord Jesus' assistance in this difficult process. Below are the quick details, and how we are looking to move forward. Passport Renewal The past Sunday Jack went to the embassy at a pre-set appointment time with his lawyer. He was kept for about three hours, and made to sign a document stating that he would return in the near future. He was told that his family has filed a case disowning him due to his faith and lack of assistance of the security forces. In the end, he left with a RENEWED PASSPORT! Next Steps... Now, we can look to the future without pressure of the passport issues. I will be discussing more with J&J about options for relocation. Most likely, it will take till the end of the year for something to be prepared. As these details become clear, I will let all of you know. Areas of Coming Need. As we move into this next phase, below are areas of need that I can expect. Please prayerful consider how you might be interested in joining in the assistance of J&J: Prayer - Practical wisdom, decision-making and ownership by J&J, practical logistics, closing down, starting again, emotion & spiritual strength, faith and courage in the unknown...etc. They will need many to support them in prayer as relocation occurs. Finances - Relocation will require purchasing visas, plane tickets, and final rent payments. Prayer Points Wisdom for L-nce to help facilitate J&J decision-making process The Holy Spirit's clear guidance to J&J about the next steps Faith & peace for J&J as a relocation is planned. Thank you for your continual prayers and support for J&J! Blessings, L-n & L-sa It is THAT time of the year again, when we have the opportunity to reach out worldwide with the love of Christ! Our goal this year is to collect 100 shoe boxes. They will be dedicated on Sunday, November 13 th, so please be sure and bring them, or arrange for someone to do it for you, on that date. - continued on next page -

If you would like to know to what country your boxes travel, pay the $7.00 shipping fee on line, and you will receive an email letting you know. If you would like to assist those who may be a bit challenged by this shipping cost, or, if it is just easier for you, we shall have a box near the food line for donations of any amount. It ALL helps! Most important of all is to pray for the person(s) who will receive your boxes. Just knowing that someone cares can be life altering. Plant a seed! Remember, what goes in is fun and helpful, but what comes out is Eternal! Nursery Volunteers Needed! We would really love for some new folks to step forward and help keep our littlest members on Sunday mornings. We are required to have 2 people at all times with the children for their safety. We need 3-4 people to volunteer to serve once a month. Please contact Barb if you can help. Each Sunday we read and frequently discuss, Know, Grow, Go. Most of us who are there are on Sundays Know, and we are there to Grow. BUT, do we Go? Shoe boxes are a means of doing this! In Mark 16:15 we are admonished to Go into all the world and preach the Gospel. We can each become a sower of the seeds of His truth, sowing the seeds of truth into thirsty hearts and lives. If you were a child in a war torn country, wouldn t YOU wonder why someone did this for you? If you were a child in Haiti following yet another disaster which took even the plastic from over your head, wouldn t you be grateful, but curious as well? I shall never forget being in the middle of nowhere Kenya, taking care of mothers to be, inoculating babies etc. when the leader of the group came to me and said, Bonnie these women all want to know why you are here, why did you spend your own money to come and help them?. Go! Plant seeds, that children and their families all over the world will find out about Jesus and His love for them, and follow His teachings as well, forming families where others have been lost. The family of God is a wonderful place to be! These shoe boxes we fill meet the children not only at a point of physical need, but are followed with The Greatest Journey, teachings of the truths of the Bible. Fill a box, send a box, that they may know! We can EACH be sowers of the Gospel Truth. Faith overcomes fear. GO! For more information or assistance with boxes, contact Renee Mitchell at 627-6006 or dvm@charter.net. OPEN DOOR: Volunteers needed! Providence volunteers the 3rd Wednesday of every month to assist in the serving of lunch from 11am-2pm This involves many things and there is something for everyone to help with. We serve food and drinks, visit with the folks having lunch and clean up the dining hall and kitchen afterwards. Also, if there is a 5th Thursday in a month, we cook and serve the meal. Bless and be blessed.
