Welcome We are delighted to greet you to the third Muslim Leadership Dinner, organised by the Muslim Council of Britain. We welcome our guests to what has become a feature in the British Muslim calendar. This evening, to celebrate London hosting this year s 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, guests will have the opportunity to hear from keynote speakers and sports personalities as well as watch some live entertainment. We hope this evening will recognise British Muslim contributions to sport and will feature short inspirational video clips from Muslim Athletes. Farooq Murad is the Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain and was previously its Treasurer. He has been involved in the community and international development work for over two decades. He was formerly President of the Islamic Society of Britain and Chair of Muslim Aid (2004-08). Baroness Grey-Thompson is a retired paralympian. Over her career she won a total of 16 Paralympic medals (11 Gold), held over 30 world records and won the London Marathon six times. Since her retirement, Tanni has continued to be involved in sport. She is a director of UK Athletics and a member of the board of the London Marathon. She is a patron for several charities, and having been created a life peer in 2010, is a crossbencher in the House of Lords. Dr Hany El Banna is the Founder and Former President of the largest Western-based international relief development agency, Islamic Relief. Dr. El-Banna was awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE), by the Queen, in 2004, for his work. He was also awarded (2007) an honorary doctorate from the University of Birmingham in recognition of Islamic Relief s worldwide aid work. Salim Al-Hassani is an Emeritus Professor at the University of Manchester. He is President of The Foundation for Science, Technology and Civilisation, UK which developed the world famous 1001 Inventions Touring Exhibition and book, the award winning Library of secrets film and the encyclopaedic MuslimHeritage.com website. Vox Pops Featuring Professional Muslim Athletes These special presentations are a series of short interviews featuring Muslim Athletes talking about how they are inspired by Islam in their professional lives. Darren Cheesman is a world class GB hockey player. He is a passionate hockey coach who regularly coaches children at his club and is also a mentor for the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust. Mo Farah is a British track and field athlete. He was the first British man to win the 5000m in the World T&F Championships a few days after winning the silver medal in the 10,000m. Zesh Rehman is a British Muslim professional football player. He currently plays for Kitchee FC and was a football ambassador for England s 2018 World Cup Bid. He was awarded for his continued work in the community in 2010 and has since started his own foundation the Zesh Rehman Foundation. Khadija Safari is a Black Belt in Muay Thai and Kickboxing. She is passionate about her profession, and gains pleasure through passing on her knowledge onto other women, encouraging sport, health and fitness. Mohamed Sbihi is a 23 year old Britsh born Muslim. He is the first practising Muslim rower ever to compete for GB rowing. He won Silver medals at both the 2010 and 2011 Rowing World Championships.
