If you have not been attending, we invite you to join us for a time to dive into God s Word. One theme that reoccurs in the book of ACTS is the theme of when a man comes to Christ that his whole household is baptized (see Acts 16:32-33). The culture of this time was patriarchal, so the family followed the father s lead. This got me to wondering why Church attendance is so low throughout America today. Why are so few men showing up to lead their families to worship God Today? I searched for some statistics on the landscape of church attendance in America and the news is not good. We are losing American men and women to faithfully attend the churches in which they belong. Here are some of the facts: 1) In short, if a father does not go to church, no matter how faithful his wife s devotion, only one child in 50 will become a regular worshiper. If a father does go regularly, regardless of the practice of the mother, between twothirds and threequarters of their children will become churchgoers (regular and irregular). If a father goes but irregularly to church, regardless of his wife s devotion, between half and two-thirds of their offspring will attend church regularly or occasionally. 2) A non-practicing mother with a regular father will see a minimum of two-thirds of her children ending up at church. In cont r a s t, a n o n - practicing father with a regular mother will see two-thirds of his children not attending church. If his wife is similarly irregular that figure rises to 80 percent. 3) An American study found similar results o the impact of fathers: When both parents a t t e n d S u n d a y School, 72% of the grown. When only the Father attends Sunday school, 55% of the grown. When only the mother a t t e n d s Su n d a y school, 15% of the grown. When neither parent a t t e n d s Su n d a y school, only 6% of the grown 4) An unrelated survey in the USA also found fathers to be highly influential in church attendance. It found that if a child is the first person in the household to become a Christian, there is a 3.5% probability everyone else in the household will follow. If the mother is the first to become a Christian, there is a 17% probability everyone else in the household will follow. However, when the father is first, there is a 93% probability everyone else in the household will follow. We need our men to take a stand for Christ today, otherwise it will be bad news for tomorrow s church. Let s make up our minds to turn the tide before it is too late! Blessings, Todd
