I love the purple colors and the woman s pale face. I wonder why she looks that way? It is like she is not in the present, with far away eyes and a blank expression, being shuffled along by the throng, but he has spotted her in the midst of the teeming crowd and suddenly their eyes lock upon each other. The forehead dot and yellow eyelid are interesting. -Betty Herrington Why do they look sad? I feel that they need help Diwa Zarate In Matthew 9:36, When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. In Matthew 25, We hear the biblical mandate to care for those in need: Truly I tell you, as you did it to one of the least of these, you did it to me. Our vision statement says, St. Marks United Methodist Church seeks to share a family of faith where church home means everyone and caring is a way of life. Let us reach out and serve and be the compassionate presence of Christ to the world.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the summer events at St Marks UMC! The Mesquite/Sunnyvale churches made this a joint United Methodist summer to remember. Everyone cooled down at the City Lake Aquatic Center on Sunday evening July 30 th.

Summer festivities finished with a joint United Methodist event hosted by First United Methodist. READ (the Bible), PLAY (Your Part), TALK (About Your Faith) VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL August 8 th 11 th. At least 38 children registered for VBS with each child receiving a book each night. It has been estimated that over 200 books were distributed and discussion is rumbling about an ongoing follow-up program supporting MISD. St Marks UMC was well represented and thanks to all the adults, youth, and children who participated! We all received a blessing this summer thanks to YOU!

The St Marks UMW joined First United Methodist UMW for a day trip to Waco and a tour of the Methodist Children s Home (MCH). The day started out early but the time passed quickly as we introduced ourselves and visited for the two hour drive. Upon arrival we met Colin Campbell who provided a wealth of information about MCH Family Outreach that was in 1890. The MCH Waco and the Boys Ranch serves children and youth through residential programs, foster care and family outreach services. MCH Family Outreach provides foster care or other family services through Texas and New Mexico. Establishing a trusting relationship and providing unconditional Christian love encourages children and youth to mature as they become educated resulting in a productive life and a contribution to society. Of course being good Methodists we stopped at the Collins Street Bakery as the eclipse traveled quickly overhead. At the Boys Ranch we met Galen a young man who is a senior at the MCH charter school. He is completing dual-credit courses and hopes to attend Texas State Technical Collage after graduation to study biomechanics. His goal is to work on machines in hospitals. Galen was a gentleman and provided a tour of the Turner home. At the end of the day speaking for myself I felt exhausted but at the same time elated to witness how our monetary blessings have touched the lives of so many and about the new UMW friends we met through this joint endeavor. The St Marks UMW contribute regularly to MCH. One of the many things learned from today s tour is to start making donations annually on June 30 th so the contribution will be matched. Blessings, Millie Arnold, UMW President

A big shout out of thanks to Dr. Don Cecil and Charlye Radde who filled in for two Sundays while Pastor Edwin took a well-deserved vacation to visit his family in Chicago. Thank you to Scott Loudder for his beautiful solo. An extra thanks to Dr. Don Cecil who served communion. Please contact Dr. Don Cecil at (214-914-3874) to receive holy sacraments for anyone who is unable to attend. Dr. Cecil is also supporting Pastor Edwin with hospital visit so please notify him for anyone wishing to receive a visit.
