C: we confess that we have sinned against our sisters and brothers and against you. We cherish the values of this world. We cause others to stumble. The earth is wounded by our excess. PRAYER OF THE DAY P: Let us pray. Almighty God, by grace alone you call us and accept us in your service. C: Strengthen us by your Spirit, and make us worthy of your call, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. WORD God speaks to us in scripture reading, preaching, and song. FIRST READING Jonah 3:1 5, 10 A reading from Jonah, the 3 rd chapter. The word of the LORD came to Jonah a second me, saying, 2 Get up, go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim to it the message that I tell you. 3 So Jonah set out and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly large city, a three days' walk across. 4 Jonah began to go into the city, going a day's walk. And he cried out, "Forty days more, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!" 5 And the people of Nineveh believed God; they proclaimed a fast, and everyone, great and small, put on sackcloth. 10 When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil ways, God changed his mind about the calamity that he had said he would bring upon them; and he did not do it. Word of God, word of life. C: Thanks be to God. RESPONSIVE READING Based on Psalm 62 L: For God alone my soul waits in silence; our hope is from God. C: God alone is our rock and our salva on, our fortress; we shall not be shaken. L: We shall not be shaken! God is our rock and our refuge. C: Let us trust in God at all mes. Let us pour out our hearts. God is our refuge. L: Those of low estate are but a breath, those of high estate are a delusion; C: In the balances they go up; they are together lighter than a breath. L: Put no confidence in extor on, and set no vain hopes on robbery. C: If riches increase, do not set your heart on them. L: Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God. C: Power and love belong to you, O Lord. For you repay to all according to their labor. 6

SECOND READING 1 Corinthians 7:29 31 A reading from Paul s 1 st le er to the Corinthians, the 7 th chapter. 29 I mean, brothers and sisters, the appointed me has grown short; from now on, let even those who have wives be as though they had none, 30 and those who mourn as though they were not mourning, and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy as though they had no possessions, 31 and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the present form of this world is passing away. Word of God, word of life. C: Thanks be to God. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION GOSPEL Mark 1:14-20 The Gospel according to Mark, the 1 st chapter. C: Glory to you, O Lord. 14 Now a er John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, 15 and saying, "The me is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near, repent, and believe in the good news." 16 As Jesus passed along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew cas ng a net into the sea for they were fishermen. 17 And Jesus said to them, "Follow me and I will make you fish for people." 18 And immediately they le their nets and followed him. 19 As he went a li le farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John, who were in their boat mending the nets. 20 Immediately he called them; and they le their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men, and followed him. The Word of the Lord. C: Praise to you, O Christ. SERMON 7

HYMN OF THE DAY Jesus Calls Us; o er the Tumult ELW #696 RESPONSE TO THE WORD God speaks to us and we respond. APOSTLES CREED P: Living together in trust and hope, we confess our faith. C: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pon us Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell; On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrec on of the body, and the life everlas ng. Amen. 8

PREFACE P: It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all mes and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, through our Savior Jesus Christ; who on this day overcame death and the grave, and by his glorious resurrec on opened to us the way of everlas ng life. Do this in remembrance of me. 12

Again, a er supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people. Do this in remembrance of me. LORD S PRAYER P: Lord, remember us in your kingdom and teach us to pray: C: Our Father, who art in heaven hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. INVITATION TO COMMUNION P: Come to the table of mercy, C: where the feast of life is spread.
