Second Aliyah: (26:19) Why are the deaths of Yehuda s sons Er and Onan recorded in this census of the Jewish people? Third Aliyah: (26:54-55) If each tribe received a portion in Eretz Israel based on its population, what was the purpose of a lottery? Fourth Aliyah: (27:8) Why does a daughter not inherit when she has brothers? Fifth Aliyah: Why is the story of Yehoshua s appointment as Moshe s replacement followed by the sacrificial laws of the various festivals and holy days? Sixth Aliyah: (28:26) Why is there no date listed for the celebration of Shavuos in our parsha? Seventh Aliyah: Why is it that on Sukkos one less bull is offered on each succeeding day? Weekly Halacha - Parshas Pinchas R Mordechai Torczyner torczyner@torontotorah.com May I polish my shoes during the Nine Days? We do not launder most types of clothing during the nine day period of national mourning that starts with Rosh Chodesh Av (Thursday evening July 12 this year). However, polishing shoes is not necessarily viewed as laundering. Many halachic authorities permit shining shoes during these nine days, and only prohibit use of shoe polish. Further, the authorities who permit wearing beautiful Shabbat clothing for Shabbat during these nine days also permit polishing shoes for use on that Shabbat. Some also make this distinction regarding polishing shoes on chol hamoed, permitting shining them without use of shoe polish. (Melamed l'hoil Orach Chaim 113; Igrot Moshe Orach Chaim 3:80; Halichot Emet 14:12) MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL AND HIGH HOLY DAY PACKAGES FOR ANYONE REQUIRING SPECIAL SEATING ARRANGEMENTS PLEASE CONTACT LESLIE AT 905-886-3810 EXT. 143 OR LESLIE@BAYT.CA Due to technological difficulties, online seating registration is NOT available this year. If so please contact us at avital@bayt.ca and we will add you to the list. SHABBOS MORNING MINYANIM Due to the early Sof Zman Kerias Shema, davening in the minyanim commencing 9 AM onwards, will begin with Rabbi Yishmael instead of Birkos Hashachar for the next couple of weeks until further notice. SAFETY-SECURITY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!! Security is everyone's responsibility. You've probably noticed a slew of security cameras have popped up around the BAYT to provide greater security in and around the Shul. These only record and monitor activity. They don't have intuitive ability to sense a potential threat or concern and that's where we need YOU! As one of the most active committees in the BAYT we need more volunteers to give us ONE hour of their time every 4th week. Some of our volunteers have been part of the team for more than 3 years and want to give others the opportunity. You've seen the volunteers at the doors on Shabbat and Yom Tovim - they play a vital role in not only presenting a welcoming face to members and visitors but assess and ensure a safe and secure environment for all of us. If you are interested please contact Alan Jaff, Aaron Rosenberg or Jeff Brown BULLETIN SUBMISSIONS All submissions for the bulletin should be sent by noon on Wednesday to Avital at: avital@bayt.ca
