We hope you find your time at Trinity this morning fulfilling and meaningful, and that you will leave both refreshed and challenged for the week to come. If visiting, kindly complete a card in the pew rack and place in the Offering Plate so we can remain in touch. And above all: please worship with us again! WELCOME, ANNOUNCEMENTS GATHERING SONGS #16, #14 Summer Celebration booklets (in the pew rack) Stand CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another. Silence for reflection and self-examination. Eternal God our creator, in you we live and move and have our being. Look upon us, your children, the work of your hands. Forgive us all our offenses, and cleanse us from proud thoughts and empty desires. By your grace draw us near to you, our refuge and our strength; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. God s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit given to us. In the mercy of almighty God, Christ died for us while we still were sinners; and for his sake, God forgives you all your sins. Amen. CANTICLE OF PRAISE

PRAYER OF THE DAY Let us pray. Gracious God, your blessed Son came down from heaven to be the true bread that gives life to the world. Give us this bread always, that he may live in us and we in him, and that, strengthened by this food, we may live as his body in the world, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. Sit Just 4 Kidz! Noisy Offering benefits the MAMA program Children s Message: Pastor Sims Following the children s message, as children leave for Children s Church (to return at The Eucharist) we sing: Jesus loves the little children: all the children of the world red and yellow, black and white: they are precious in his sight! CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.* On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION Trusting in our loving and almighty God who abundantly provides the bread of life to all who hunger, let us pray for the church, the world, and all who are in need. Sit A brief silence Lord of Grace, we pray for the whole church. Sustain all who have tasted the bread of heaven and found solace in the promise of eternal life. Teach us to forgive one another in love and contribute to the well-being of those we encounter daily. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. Lead people of all nations to speak truth and to deal kindly with one another, walking in the paths of justice and peace that your way may be made known, that harmony, not hurt; peace, not power; forgiveness and healing would bring leaders and peoples together. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. We pray for family, friends, and neighbors receiving care and support of physicians, nurses, and lab technicians; counselors and therapists especially remembering Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. Accept our prayers for all schools, colleges, and universities, that they may be lively places for sound learning and the pursuit of excellence. We especially pray for public and private schools of Frederick County, Lord Fairfax Community College, and Shenandoah University. Grant that those who teach and those who learn achieve, within their capabilities, their greatest potential. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. We thank you for the lives of all the faithful, particularly those whose course on earth has ended. Give us courage to live as they, confident of your grace and mercy, love of self and others. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. Here other intercessions may be offered. We offer these prayers, spoken and unspoken in hope and trust, knowing that you will do far more than we can ask or imagine, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. PEACE Sit The people may greet one another with a sign of Christ s peace, and may say, Peace be with you, or similar words. OFFERING Offertory Anthem I Sing Praises to Your Name Terry MacAlmon Trinity Choir Stand Our gifts for God s Kingdom are joyfully shared!

OFFERTORY PRESENTATION OFFERING PRAYER Merciful God, you open wide your hand and satisfy the need of every living thing. You have set this feast before us. Open our hands to receive it. Open our hearts to embrace it. Open our lives to live it. We pray this through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Lord be with you And also with you Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. The Holy Eucharist It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, through our Savior Jesus Christ; who on this day overcame death and the grave, and by his glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. And so, with all the choirs of angels, with the church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY THANKSGIVING AT THE TABLE In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. LORD S PRAYER Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit, let us pray as Jesus taught us. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. INVITATION TO COMMUNION Come, let us eat, for now the feast is spread. Sit

Permission is required by the mailing program that is used. Goodness and Mystery: Norma Frederickson, the designer and creator of our newest paraments, will have a liturgical art display in the Woltz Pavilion at the Godfrey Miller house on August 26, 10AM-4PM. Godfrey Miller is located on the Walking Mall at 28 S. Loudon Street. This event is free and open to all. Our monthly canned good collection for holiday baskets continues on, because the need never ceases. August is gravy. The CCAP donation bin is always in the front stairwell for your donations. In an effort to provide pastoral care, Pastor Sims is requesting that members of the congregation contact the church office, either for yourself or another member (with the member s permission). This is especially helpful when there are hospitalizations. HIPPA regulations prohibit hospital employees from reporting admissions to congregations either directly or by request. That information must be provided by the individual, a family member or friend (with the patient s permission). Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
