THE WORD UP This two-letter word in English has more meanings an any oer two-letter word, and at word is 'UP.' It is listed in e dictionary as an [adv], [prep], [adj], [n] or [v]. It's easy to understand UP, meaning toward e sky or at e top of e list, but when we awaken in e morning, why do we wake UP? At a meeting, why does a topic come UP? Why do we speak UP, and why are e officers UP for election and why is it UP to e secretary to write UP a report? We call UP our friends, brighten UP a room, polish UP e silver, warm UP e leftovers and clean UP e kitchen. We lock UP e house and fix UP e old car. At oer times is little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and ink UP excuses. To be dressed is one ing but to be dressed UP is special. And is UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP. We open UP a store in e morning but we close it UP at night. We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP! To be knowledgeable about e proper uses of UP, look UP e word UP in e dictionary.. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4 of e page and can add UP to about 30 definitions If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of e many ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP, you may wind UP wi a hundred or more. When it reatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP. When e sun comes out, we say it is clearing UP. When it rains, it soaks UP e ear. When it does not rain for awhile, ings dry UP. One could go on & on, but I'll wrap it UP, for now...my time is UP! Now I'll shut UP!
Adopt a Priest wi Prayer This past week, Fr. Mayo received an email informing him of a wonderful ministry being started in e Archdiocese. Those starting it asked him to put e following in e bulletin perhaps it is someing some of you might be interested in. Fr. Mayo would certainly be grateful for any and all prayers! The email read as follows: Started in 1996 in e Diocese of Oakland, CA, we recently learned of is ministry and are starting it for e Archdiocese of Portland, OR. Priests have a Divine Mission but ey are also very human and daily face e problems and struggles common to all of us. They have a great need of our support in prayer, love and concern. If you would be willing to pray each day during e year for a priest of e Archdiocese of Portland, please e-mail adoptapriestwiprayer@ yahoo.com or send your name and address to Mary Ann Schlumpberger, 2736 Fish Hatchery Rd, Grants Pass, OR 97527. Mary Ann will e-mail or send e name of a priest for you to pray for. "Don't doubt it for a minute." returned e old man, in an even tone. "Did you know at I could cause you profound, horrifying, physical AGONY for all eternity??" persisted Satan. "Yep." was e calm reply. "And you're still not afraid?!" asked Satan. "Nope." More an a little perturbed, Satan asked, "Well, why aren't you afraid of me? " The man calmly replied, "Been married to your sister for over 48 years." THANK YOU A special anks to all ose who remembered me on rd my 63 birday on June 14 and 34 Anniversary of my Ordination to e Priesood on June 19. Your prayers, your very kind words and your generous gifts are a sign of how fortunate God made me when He sent me here to St. Michael s Parish as your pastor! Bless all of you and don t stop praying for me...please. Faer Mayo - Pastor We are just getting started, so it will take us a bit to get organized. NEW LOOK AT SATAN A few minutes before e church services started, e townspeople were sitting in eir pews and talking. Suddenly, Satan appeared at e front of e church. Everyone started screaming and running for e front entrance, trampling each oer in a frantic effort to get away from evil incarnate. Soon everyone had exited e church except for one elderly gentleman who sat calmly in his pew wiout moving, seeming oblivious to e fact at God's ultimate enemy was in his presence. Satan walked up to e old man and said, "Don't you know who I am?" The man replied, "Yep, sure do." "Aren't you afraid of me?" Satan asked. "Nope, sure ain't." said e man. "Don't you realize I can kill you wi a word?" asked Satan. PARISH EMAIL The parish is using email more often to communicate wi parishioners & friends. For example, Contribution Statements e past two years, & invitations to e Volunteer Appreciation Dinner is Spring, were sent via email.
