BACKGROUND Pope Francis declared 2016 a A Holy Year of Mercy as a way for the Catholic Church to make more evident the mission to be a witness of mercy. Holy Year began on December 8, 2015 and will go to November 20, 2016. On December 8, also, opened the Vatican s Holy Doors which was to evoke the concept of forgiveness - main focus of a Holy Year. Looking closely at the sixteen bronze panels that make up the Vatican Holy Door, one will find images from Old and New Testaments, with episodes from Scripture illustrating God s mercy.
Background (con t) Catholic Education Week combines the theme of mercy and the act of opening doors of reconciliation, mercy and forgiveness to all around us.
