FUNERAL SERVICE James Jim Kormeier Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, Thus far the Lord has helped us. I Samuel 7:12 Ebenezer Lutheran Church The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod 9100 Highway YY - Port Hudson Leslie, Missouri 63056 Rev. William F. Zastrow, Pastor Ruth Marschel, Organist Kyle Kormeier and Kelly Stone (Grandchildren), Duet AS WE GATHER: Thus far the Lord has helped us. That is the literal meaning of Ebenezer. From this passage of Scripture this congregation was named 169 years ago. As a life long member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church it is a fitting passage for Jim and also for Babs and their loving family. Our Lord with His Grace through Jesus Christ has helped Jim to overcome the obstacles this life and to live his life with the loving, kindness and generosity we all came to appreciate. We place our trust in our Risen Savior and His perfect love that drives out all fear and gives us hope and peace in his Kingdom. Most assuredly the Lord was Jim s Ebenezer. RINGING OF THE BELL ENTRANCE OF FAMILY WELCOME BY PASTOR ZASTROW

WORDS SPOKEN BY KYLE KORMEIER Grandson HYMN "My Hope is Built On Nothing Less LW 368 My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus blood and righteous; No merit of my own I claim But wholly lean on Jesus name. On Christ, the solid rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand. When darkness veils his lovely face, I ret on his unchanging grace; In every high and story gale My anchor holds within the veil. On Christ, the solid rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand. In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. PSALM Psalm 121 & Psalm 42 The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray to the Lord. O God of grace and mercy, we give thanks for your loving-kindness to Jim, having finished His course in faith, now rest from His labors. Grant that we also may be faithful to death and received the crown of eternal life; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever. Amen. 2

OLD TESTAMENT Job 19:21-27 (Job confesses his faith in the Resurrection) This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. DUET "Amazing Grace" by Kelly Stone and Kyle Kormeier PSALM Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Glory be to the Father and to the + Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning is now, and will be forever. Amen. NEW TESTAMENT 1 Corinthians 15:20-26 (In Christ all will be made alive.) 3

This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. HYMN Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing HS98 876 1 Come, thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing thy grace; streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above. Praise the mount I'm fixed upon it mount of God's redeeming love. 2 Here I raise my Ebenezer; Hither by Thy help I ve come, And I hope by Thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God; he, to rescue me from danger, bought me with his precious blood. HOLY GOSPEL Luke 2:25-32 (Lord, let Your Servant Depart in Peace) This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You, O Christ. HYMN Beautiful Savior Beautiful Savior, King of creation, Son of God and Son of Man! Truly I d love thee, 4

Truly I d serve thee, Light of my soul, my joy, my crown. Fair are the meadows, Fair are the woodlands, Robed in flowers of blooming spring; Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer, He makes our sorrowing spirit sing. Fair is the sunshine, Fair is the moonlight, Bright the sparkling stars on high; Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer Than all the angels in the sky. Beautiful Savior, Lord of the nations, Son of God and Son of Man! Glory and honor, praise, adoration Now and forevermore be thine! SERMON Ebenezer - Thus far the Lord has helped us. I Samuel 7:12 God has made us His people through Baptism into Christ. Living together in trust and hope, we confess our faith. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born 5

of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the + life everlasting. Amen. + PRAYER + O God, the Father of compassion, shower Your mercies on this family, and all who mourn the death of our departed brother Jim. May these mercies be new each day to sooth the pain of each day as we await the heavenly reunion with Jesus Christ and Jim. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. O God the Son, dearest Jesus, our Good Shepherd, make Your rod and staff of comfort known to those who mourn. May Your goodness and love revealed in Your Word and Sacraments, be known in their daily lives. Guide them in Your paths of righteousness as they await the heavenly reunion with Jesus Christ and Jim. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. O God the Holy Spirit, show us the mountain of hope---the mountain of the cross of Christ. Strengthen our faith with Your Word and Sacraments that we may join those who have 6

HYMN overcome all tribulations and have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Keep us faithful as we await the heavenly reunion with Jesus Christ and our beloved Jim. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Amen. Lord, remember us in Your kingdom, and teach us to pray: The Lord s Prayer BENEDICTION Our Father which art in Heaven Hallowed be Thy Name Thy Kingdom Come Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. After the Service and Burial the family invites all to join them in the church fellowship hall for lunch. 7

James Jim Kormeier James Emil Fred Kormeier born on November 18, 1933 was transferred to the Church Triumphant on Monday afternoon, August 17, 2015 at the age of 81 years, 9 months and 1 day, at his home in rural New Haven, Missouri. Jim was the son of the late Alfred and Mildred (Althage) Kormeier. God received Jim into His Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on December 3, 1933 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Port Hudson. Jim confirmed his faith in the Rite of Confirmation at Ebenezer on March 30, 1946. Jim was very active in the church life of Ebenezer. At various times Jim was Congregational President of Ebenezer Lutheran Church. He was united in marriage to Barbara Babs Stumpe on September 6, 1958 at St. Peter s United Church of Christ in Washington. Jim loved his family above all else, and enjoyed sharing the simple joys of life with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was a dairy farmer at heart, but also worked at Ed s Engineering and Drilling for many years, and retired from Midwest. Jim is survived by his wife, Barbara Babs Kormeier of New Haven; two sons, Jeff and wife Laurie Kormeier of New Haven and Barry and wife Angie Kormeier of New Haven; four sisters, Irma Pelster of Washington, Elsie Nice of Overland Park, Kansas, Janette and husband Warren Bauche of New Haven, and Kathy and husband Steve Bertrand of Washington; four grandchildren, Kelly and husband Nick Stone of Villa Ridge, Kyle and wife Chelsie Kormeier of St. Joseph, Missouri, Trista Kormeier of New Haven, and Trent Kormeier of New Haven; four great grandchildren, Ava, Savannah, Naomi, and Lucy; one brother in law, Donald and wife Dorothy Stumpe of Overland Park, Kansas; other relatives, and many, many friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Mildred Kormeier. May God in His grace comfort those who mourn, as they look in faith to Jesus Christ, our Lord, who is the Resurrection and the Life, whose victory over death we share in faith. 8
