The Last Sunday of Epiphany The Holy Eucharist THE LITURGY OF THE WORD Processional Hymn (all stand) When morning gilds the skies Hymnal 427 People: I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth. Collect for Purity (in unison) Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your Holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Summary of the Law Jesus said: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 22:37-40 Kyrie People: Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

Gloria Praise The Lord Ye Heavens CCLI: 7026992 Verse Chorus

Bridge People: The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Let us pray. Collect O God, who before the passion of your only-begotten Son revealed his glory upon the holy mountain: Grant that we, beholding by faith the light of his countenance, may be strengthened to bear our cross, and be changed into his likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. First Reading (all be seated) Exodus 34:29-35 (Pew Bible p. 71) Reader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. The Gradual (all remain seated and read responsively) Psalm 99 1 The Lord is King; let the people tremble; * he is enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth shake. 2 The Lord is great in Zion; * he is high above all peoples. 3 Let them confess his Name, which is great and awesome; * he is the Holy One. 4 O mighty King, lover of justice, you have established equity; * you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob. 5 Proclaim the greatness of the Lord our God and fall down before his footstool; * he is the Holy One. 6 Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among those who call upon his Name, * they called upon the Lord, and he answered them. 7 He spoke to them out of the pillar of cloud; * they kept his testimonies and the decree that he gave them.

8 O Lord our God, you answered them indeed; * you were a God who forgave them, yet punished them for their evil deeds. 9 Proclaim the greatness of the Lord our God and worship him upon his holy hill; * for the Lord our God is the Holy One. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever: world without end. Amen. Second Reading 1 Corinthians 12:27-13:13 (Pew Bible p. 934) Reader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. Sequence (all stand) Ancient Words Lynne DeShazo; CCLI: 2986399 Deacon: People: Holy words long preserved For our walk in this world They resound with God's own heart O let the ancient words impart Words of life words of hope Give us strength help us cope In this world where'er we roam Ancient words will guide us home Ancient words ever true Changing me changing you We have come with open hearts O let the ancient words impart The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke. Glory to you, Lord Christ. Holy Gospel Luke 9:28-36 (Pew Bible p. 843) Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to you, Lord Christ. Sequence Ancient Words Lynne DeShazo; CCLI: 2986399 Holy words of our faith Handed down to this age Came to us through sacrifice O heed the faithful words of Christ

Sermon (all be seated) Ancient words ever true Changing me changing you We have come with open hearts O let the ancient words impart Nicene Creed (all stand, and recite in unison) We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father [and the Son], who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. Prayers of the People (all kneel) The Deacon says: Please offer your prayers and thanksgivings this morning, either out loud or silently, and after the words Lord, in your mercy respond with Hear our prayer. Let us pray.

The Deacon concludes with the following prayer: Heavenly Father, grant these our prayers for Jesus Christ s sake, our only Mediator and Advocate, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen. Confession (in unison) Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. Absolution The Celebrant says: Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who in his great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all those who sincerely repent and with true faith turn to him, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Comfortable Words Words and music by Andy Piercy

Peace (all stand) The Peace of the Lord be always with you. People: And with your spirit. Announcements (all be seated) THE HOLY COMMUNION Offertory God Himself Matthew S. Smith; CCLI: 7096757 In the day when silent sorrow Seems to shake me to the core Then I hear the heavenly comfort You will weep no more God Himself will dry your tears God Himself will soothe your fears In the day when earthly weakness Weighs your weary spirit down All around you seems a burden All above you seems a frown In the day when sin oppresses And the battle rages strong When the victory seems doubtful Or triumphant seems the wrong Oh I hear the heavenly comfort You will weep no more

Presentation Hymn (all stand) Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. Old One Hundredth People: All things come from you, O Lord. And of your own have we given you. Sursum Corda The Lord be with you. People: And with your spirit. Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give him thanks and praise. It is right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. Because in the mystery of the Word made flesh, you have caused a new light to shine in our hearts, to give the knowledge of your glory in the face of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name. Sanctus et Benedictus Words: Traditional Music: Justin Philip Brooks, Tiffany Brooks

The Prayer of Consecration (all kneel) Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and when we had sinned against you and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent your only Son into the world for our salvation. By the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary he became flesh and dwelt among us. In obedience to your will, he stretched out his arms upon the cross and offered himself once for all, that by his suffering and death we might be saved. By his resurrection he broke the bonds of death, trampling Hell and Satan under his feet. As our great high priest, he ascended to your right hand in glory, that we might come with confidence before the throne of grace. On the night that he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it,* and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take, eat; this is my Body which is given for you: Do this in remembrance of me. Likewise, after supper, Jesus took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, Drink this, all of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the forgiveness of sins: Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me. Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, and we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Word and Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Sanctify us also, that we may worthily receive this holy sacrament, and be made one body with him, so that he may dwell in us and we in him. And bring us with all your saints into the fullness of your heavenly kingdom, where we shall see our Lord face to face.

All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and forever. Amen. The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. The Fraction Alleluia. Christ our Passover Lamb has been sacrificed, once for all upon the cross. People: Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia. Prayer of Humble Access (in unison) We do not presume to come to this, your table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your abundant and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your table. But you are the same Lord, who always delights in showing mercy. Grant us, therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ and to drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his body, and our souls washed through his most precious blood, and that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen. Communion All baptized Christians who profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are welcome to receive Holy Communion in this church. All who do not wish to receive are still welcome to come forward to the altar rail. You may cross your arms across your chest as an indication you do not wish to receive, and a prayer of blessing will be offered for you instead. Gluten-free wafers are available. If you would like to receive a gluten-free wafer, simply ask the priest when he comes to you at the communion rail. Additional prayer is offered by our Altarside Prayer Team on either side of the altar, if you are in need of specific prayer, they would be happy to pray with you after you have received communion.

And now, Father, send us out into the world to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and forever. Amen. Prayer for our Search Team (in unison) Good and gracious God, thank you for blessing our church. As we prepare for our future, we are confident of your goodness and care, and we humbly ask you to open our hearts and minds so that we may listen well for your guidance. Help us to discern Your will, and to be guided to select the person you already have in mind to be our new Rector. May we love each other and You more deeply as we make this journey together. This we pray in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Blessing The peace of God which passes all understanding keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you, and remain with you always. Amen.
