WE ARE OVERJOYED THAT YOU HAVE CHOSEN TO JOIN US FOR THIS CELEBRATION OF THE GOSPEL! A Warm Welcome to Our Visitors! We are truly pleased that you have chosen to worship with us today. If you are seeking a church just for today as part of your travels, thank you for celebrating with us and may God be with you on your journey. If you are searching for a church home, we pray God will draw you to a church in which you will be blessed, and should that be here at Calvary we would rejoice! The Visitor s Guide located in the pew seatback may be helpful if you are unfamiliar with Calvary or the Episcopal Church. Please take some time to fill out the Guest Register in the entryway so that we can be in touch to express our joy in worshipping with you this day. Children: We love having children worship with us! We are fully aware of busy hands, feet, and voices. Don t worry! We are overjoyed they are in worship! Should you want it, there are several great options for active hands and minds found in the entryway of the church. Restrooms are located at the front of the sanctuary to the right through the door by the piano, as well as in the Parish Hall outside the entrance doors of the church and to your left. (Look for the red doors to enter the Parish Hall.) Gluten-Free Communion Bread is available. Please ask an usher to notify the priest. Fr. Gabriel would welcome the opportunity to meet you if you have any additional questions or would like more information about Calvary. PLEASE STAND AT THE RINGING OF THE CHURCH BELL FOR A MOMENT OF SILENT PRAYER IN PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP. A PERSONAL PRAYER BEFORE WORSHIP O Almighty God, who pours out on all who desire it the spirit of grace and of supplication: Deliver us, when we draw near to you, from coldness of heart and wanderings of mind, that with steadfast thoughts and kindled affections we may worship you in spirit and in truth; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Holy Eucharist Rite Two Processional Hymn Lord Christ, when first thou cam st to earth 598 Blue Hymnal THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD OF GOD page 355 [red] Book of Common Prayer (BCP) But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word. - Acts 6:4 Gloria S-280 Blue Hymnal S stands for Service Music in the front of the hymnal THE COLLECT OF THE DAY - Holy Cross Day Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ was lifted high upon the cross that he might draw the whole world to himself: Mercifully grant that we, who glory in the mystery of our redemption, may have grace to take up our cross and follow him; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen. A LESSON FROM THE OLD TESTAMENT Reader A reading from the prophet Isaiah. 45:21-25 Declare and present your case; let them take counsel together! Who told this long ago? Who declared it of old? Was it not I, the LORD? There is no other god besides me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is no one besides me. Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other. By myself I have sworn, from my mouth has gone forth in righteousness a word that shall not return: To me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. 1

Only in the LORD, it shall be said of me, are righteousness and strength; all who were incensed against him shall come to him and be ashamed. In the LORD all the offspring of Israel shall triumph and glory. Reader People The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. A LESSON FROM THE PSALTER Psalm 98 The Leader and People pray responsively by whole verse. Cantate Domino 727 BCP 1 Sing to the LORD a new song, * for he has done marvelous things. 2 With his right hand and his holy arm * has he won for himself the victory. 3 The LORD has made known his victory; * his righteousness has he openly shown in the sight of the nations. 4 He remembers his mercy and faithfulness to the house of Israel, * and all the ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God. 5 Shout with joy to the LORD, all you lands; * lift up your voice, rejoice, and sing. 6 Sing to the LORD with the harp, * with the harp and the voice of song. 7 With trumpets and the sound of the horn * shout with joy before the King, the LORD. 8 Let the sea make a noise and all that is in it, * the lands and those who dwell therein. 9 Let the rivers clap their hands, * and let the hills ring out with joy before the LORD, when he comes to judge the earth. 10 In righteousness shall he judge the world * and the peoples with equity. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. A LESSON FROM THE NEW TESTAMENT Reader A reading from the letter from St. Paul to the Philippians. 2:5-11 Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. 2 And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death - even death on a cross. Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name,

so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Reader People The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Music at the Sequence Nothing but the Blood 337 Green Celebration Hymnal A LESSON FROM THE GOSPELS Deacon The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St. John. 12:31-36a People Glory to you, Lord Christ. Jesus said, Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be driven out. And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself. He said this to indicate the kind of death he was to die. The crowd answered him, We have heard from the law that the Messiah remains forever. How can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man? Jesus said to them, The light is with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness may not overtake you. If you walk in the darkness, you do not know where you are going. While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become children of light. Deacon People The Gospel of the Lord. Sanctus Holy, Holy, Holy S 129 Blue Hymnal All baptized Christians who receive communion in their home churches are welcome to receive communion (Holy Eucharist) at Calvary. The sacrament is celebrated using wheat bread wafers and wine. If you are unable to receive either for any reason, the Church has taught that to receive the sacrament in one kind is to receive fully. You may stand or kneel at the altar rail to receive communion, but if coming forward to receive communion is physically difficult then we are happy to bring communion to you in your pew. Those not partaking in communion for any reason are most welcome to come forward to the altar rail to receive a blessing from the priest. You can indicate to the priest that you are not receiving communion but desire a blessing by crossing your arms across your chest. Intercessory Prayer Most Sundays during Communion at the 9:45 service a prayer team is available stationed by the piano if you would like to have someone pray with you in thanksgiving for something or to help you lay your burdens at the feet of the Lord.
