Marks (to be entered by Teacher) Punctuality Neatness Answers Sub- GRAND Bonus/Prize TOTAL Make sure your name and address are written here. Name Address Age Date of Birth Class Teacherʼs Name level 3 Bible Searching In the Book of Ruth Lesson No. Ruth - Wrong Decisions Read Ruth : -4 Key Verse Judges : 5 These four lessons are about a family who lived many years before David, Israel s greatest king. The story begins at a time when the people of Israel had turned away from God and were living very sinful and selfish lives. Write out the Key Verse which explains how people were living. In our lives, it is important to choose what is right, and to follow God. In this Bible Reading we shall see how some chose the right way, while others made the wrong decision. On the map complete the name:- ) of the place where the family lived in Israel. ) of the country to which they went. The distance they travelled was about 50 miles. Write below the reason for them deciding to leave their home. B In Bible times, the names of people and places often had meanings. Take the first letter of each object to find the meaning of Bethlehem. So we can see that Bethlehem was NOT being true to its name! M _ Bibletime

Lesson Here is the family setting out on their journey. What are the names of the father and mother? What are the names of the two sons? 4 They should not have gone to Moab, as it was a sinful country where people worshipped idols. It would have been better if they had trusted God and stayed in the land which God had given them. In that foreign land, tragedy struck, and a sad event happened. Write on the grave stone the name of the person who died. Later new joy came into Naomi s life. Her two sons got married. Unscramble the letters to discover the names of their wives. PHOAR But again tragedy struck! Write on the grave stones who died next! HUTR In our story we are now left with three widows. Soon Naomi heard good news from her home town of Bethlehem. Write IN YOUR OWN WORDS what she heard. All three set out for the land of Judah. After a short distance they stopped and Naomi thanked Orpah and Ruth for their kindness to her and pleaded with them to go back. At first both girls were determined to continue the journey with Naomi, but she pleaded even more strongly with them to leave her. The women all cried together and eventually one went home and the other remained with her mother-in-law. Write on the lines below the place names, who went where. So we see that this is a story about choices that were made. Elimelech chose to go to Moab. Mahlon and Chilion chose wives. Naomi chose to go back home. Ruth and Orpah also made up their minds about what they would do. We, too, have many choices to make as life goes on. The most important choice of all is what we shall do with the Lord Jesus. Look up John : and write down what God promises to give to those who choose to receive the Lord Jesus. For teacher s remarks 0

Lesson Lesson No. Ruth - The Widows Return Read Ruth : 4-3 & : -3 Key Verses Ruth : 6 & 7 Please put your name here Orpah had made her decision and she returned to Moab. Ruth s mind was made up that she would go with Naomi to Bethlehem. Ruth s words in the Key Verses show how much she loved her mother-in-law and how faithful she was to her. Fill in the missing words in the speech bubble.... where you go, ; where you stay, I will stay; your people shall be ; and your God. Where you die. Nothing but will separate you and me. 5 Three times Naomi had urged Ruth to return to her family, her homeland and her gods, but Ruth had chosen to trust the true God and to be with Naomi. Ruth had chosen the right way. When they arrived in Bethlehem, everyone who remembered Naomi was excited to see her again. What did they say? They must have seen a great change in her, for she was very unhappy! As we have already seen, people s names often have meanings, but sometimes the meanings are not suitable! To what did Naomi say her name should be changed?

Lesson Give two reasons why she wanted it changed... Do you know what your name means? Unscramble the two words in the sentence below, to find out the real meaning of verse 0. IMOAN _ means pleasant but MARA(H) means tterib. Answer TRUE or FALSE:- Bethlehem was in the land of Moab. Orpah and Ruth came to live in Bethlehem. The Almighty is a title for God. The barley harvest was just beginning. Ruth went to work in the fields. In Chapter, a new character enters the story. Look at the Fact File and choose the right answer for each of the four points about him. 5 FACT FILE My name:- Boaz / Obed / Mahlon My family:- David / Elimelech / Saul My occupation:- Shepherd / Farmer / Fisherman My status:- Poor / Rich / Slave 4 Looking back over the study so far, we can see that a great change had come about in Ruth s life! She no longer worshipped the false gods of Moab but the true and living God of Israel. We, too, need a change! Have you turned from your sins to the Lord Jesus Christ? For teacher s remarks 0

Lesson 3 Lesson No. 3 Ruth - The Wealthy Relative Read Ruth : -3 Key Verse Ruth : 0 Please put your name here Naomi and Ruth were poor widows but Ruth was willing to work hard to obtain food for Naomi and herself. She went to glean in the harvest field. This means she gathered together the stalks of grain that had been left behind by the reapers. (See Leviticus 3:.) 4 3 Complete this CROSSWORD to find out some details about her work. 5 CROSSWORD Clues Across. A name for the men who reap the harvest. 3. The place from which the farmer came. 4. Another word for collecting the leftover grain. 5. The workers said, The Lord you. Clues Down. The name of the widow who went to collect the spare corn.. The corn was grown in these. 3. The owner of the farm. When Boaz came to see how the work was going on, he noticed Ruth and asked who she was. What did his foreman tell him? (See verses 6 & 7.) 7 She is She asked me She has been working 3 Ruth s task was very simple, very ordinary and very tiring, but she did it faithfully. God expects us to do our best in everything, just as Ruth did. She was very moved by Boaz s kindness to her, and she felt she didn t deserve it, as she was a foreigner. (See verse 0.) Boaz s attitude to Ruth is a picture of God s grace to us. God s GRACE is His undeserved favour towards us! How wonderful it is that God loves us even though we are sinners. He showed His love by sending the Lord Jesus to die for us. Through Him we can come into favour with God forever! Boaz was a very kind person. Explain IN YOUR OWN WORDS why he was especially kind to Ruth. (Verse )

Lesson 3 God protects those who trust in Him, just as a mother hen protects her chicks under her wings. The chicks run to the mother hen when danger threatens. They trust her. Boaz assured Ruth that the Lord would look after her in the same way. Write out what he said in verse. Boaz was very generous to Ruth; he gave her everything she needed. Use these pictures and verse references to help you fill in the missing words. Verse 9 Verse 4 Verse 4 Verse 6 He gave her permission to drink from the and at lunch time he invited her to eat. As she sat by the reapers, Boaz passed to her some roasted/parched. Finally, he told his men to leave some purposely for her. Ruth took plenty of food home to Naomi who realized the Lord was looking after them. Look at the Key Verse and write out what Naomi said about how good the Lord had been to them. 4 Write out what she said about Boaz. It was not by chance that Ruth went to Boaz s field and that Boaz was a close relative. God had been planning for Ruth and Naomi, arranging their lives for the best. The Lord is directing our lives, even when we are having difficult times. As this chapter ends, Ruth is still being loyal to Naomi. Look at verse 3 and write down two things which Ruth did... For teacher s remarks 0

Lesson No. 4 Ruth - The Will of God Lesson 4 Read Ruth 3: -8 & 4: -7 Key Verse Psalm 37: 5 Please put your name here The story of Ruth had a happy ending. She found a new husband! Naomi played an important part in arranging the marriage. Read Chapter 3: -8 and put a check or a cross after the following sentences to show if they are RIGHT or WRONG. Naomi told Ruth to go and lie down at Boaz s feet. Ruth did as Naomi said. Ruth went to Boaz in his tent. Boaz slept all night. Ruth reminded Boaz he was a close relative (or kinsman). Boaz was angry at what Ruth had done. Boaz promised to help Ruth. Boaz gave Ruth a handful of barley. Then Naomi and Ruth had to wait to find out what would happen next. By reading Ruth 4: - and completing the Crossword, you will discover how God s will for Ruth s life was worked out. 8 CROSSWORD CLUES Down. The men who saw what Boaz did were called this. (Verse 0) 4. The number of elders or leaders. (Verse ) 5. A name for a piece of ground. (Verse 3) Across. Ruth became the of Boaz.. She was a Moabite widow. (Verse 5) 3. Everything was arranged at this place. 6. They all did this. (Verse ) (TWO WORDS) 7. A kind of footwear. 8

Lesson 4 So Naomi was happy, for Boaz married Ruth and the Lord blessed them with a son, who in time became the grandfather of someone very special in the history of Israel. Fill in the missing names in the family tree. (See verse 7.) D J O Ruth Boaz 3 So God had a wonderful plan for the life of Ruth. Because she trusted in God and obeyed His will, He blessed her in many ways. Her story illustrates what the Key Verse says. Write it out. Over 000 years later the Lord Jesus was born in the same town of Bethlehem. He was a direct descendant of Ruth. (Matthew : 5) How wonderful that God chose a foreign girl, who once worshipped idols, to play such an important part in His great plan of salvation! Through that plan, each of us can also come to know God, and so enjoy His blessing forever.
