Looking Ahead with Steve Steve Bateman Between the 240th birthday of the United States, the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, the All Star Game in San Diego, the Tour de France in, uh, France, and your family vacations, July promises to be full, momentous, historic, controversial, divisive, celebratory, and busy. In the midst of it all, we will do at First Bible Church what we have always done. Every Sunday morning, the Lord s Day, we will gather together to worship God. Count on it! No matter what happens this month, we will be here giving God the praise that is due him, exulting in his magnificence, exalting his Son, loving his Word, knowing that he is in total control. He already knows the vice presidential picks and it s part of His plan. He s got this! But in another way, July is different at First Bible Church. It occurred to us a few years ago that it was possible for our children to make it all the way to the 6th grade without ever publicly worshipping with their parents on Sunday morning, singing a 500 year old hymn, or hear a pastor preach a sermon. They might be 11 or 12 years old before they see their father open a Bible to follow a text that is being taught, or observe the Lord s Supper. Of course, they are being taught well in the children s ministries. The lessons are age appropriate, yet challenging. They are learning the Word, no doubt. Our children s ministries are on par with excellence! But there s just something about hearing your mom singing next to you in church. So here s what we do about it: In the summer, we focus on Six Sundays of Family Worship. From July 3 until August 7, all children, Kindergarten through 5th grade, will join us in worship. We ll shorten the service a little bit, and I ll keep the little ears in mind as I prepare my sermons. We ll have special handouts to help them follow along, and we will teach them some great songs. It will be full in our auditoriums, but it will be fun. So with everything going on this July, one thing will remain constant. Every Sunday morning, we will be right here, glorifying God by helping people know, love, obey, and exalt Jesus Christ. And in July, the people we want to focus on is the next generation. Your children. FBC Newsletter 3 July 2016
