Minutes of the 425th Regular Meeting of Massada Lodge held at the Altrincham Masonic Hall, Branksome, Clay Lane, Timperley, Altrincham, Cheshire on Thursday 28th February 2019 Present were the Worshipful Master, Bro Philip Rose, the Senior Warden, WBro Terry Ryan PProvAGSuptWks and WBro Robert Walton PProvAGSuptWks, the Junior Warden, with 32 other brethren and 8 visitors, (including the Representative of the Provincial Grand Master), as recorded in the Lodge Attendance Register. The Lodge was opened in due form and with Solemn Prayer at 5.55pm Present WBros: Alexander, Barnfield, Besbrode, Dwek, Gonshaw, Hammond, Linton, Marsh, Moritz, Podmore, Pressman, J.Raynes, Ryan, Salem, Schick, Shasha, Simpson, Walton and Weiner Bros: Filz, Ginger, Hester, Horwich, Hough, Laddin, Marks, McGuinness, Nahmad, Needoff, Anthony Raynes, Rose, Sassoon, Simon, Spitz, and Wolff Visitors WBros: Brian Mayoh, (Representative of the Provincial Grand Master), WBro Keith Howbrigg, Peter McGiffen, Stephen Boden and Trevor Smart Bros: John Hill and Jonathan Skulnick In Memoriam ~ WBro Basil Gilbert PProvSGW WBro Jack Weiner PProvGSuptWks gave a eulogy for WBro Basil Gilbert. A copy is attached in the Minute Book. The Brethren then stood for a moment of reverence. The Brethren then stood to order to receive WBro Brian Mayoh PAGStB, Representative of the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master, accompanied by brethren holding Grand and Provincial Grand Rank in this and other Provinces. The Worshipful Master greeted them. WBro Mayoh thanked the Worshipful Master. The minutes of the 424th Regular Meeting of the Lodge held on 22nd h November 2018 having been previously circulated, the Secretary said there were no amendments to make and the brethren confirmed them. Election of Tyler The Secretary informed the Brethren that since the November Lodge meeting that WBro Brian Robinson PProvSGW (East Lancs) had approached the Worshipful Master and indicated that he would like to Tyle again for Massada Lodge. Unfortunately, due to health issues more recently, Brian contacted the Secretary again and has reluctantly had to withdraw his offer on doctor s orders. This means that the Lodge will self-tyle for the time being, although efforts are going to be made to try and

Page: 2 of 8 secure the services of a paid Tyler by notification through the Area 3 Secretary. In the meantime, a Tyler will be appointed as one of the Officers later in the evening. Proclamation The Director of Ceremonies then announced that this evening s ceremony was to be a Proclamation as the Worshipful Master was to continue in Office. The Worshipful Master asked all his Officer s to stand and he thanked the Team that had helped him during his first year in office for the work they had undertaken. The Worshipful Master requested all below the rank of a Fellowcraft to retire from the Lodge for a short period. The Lodge was then opened in the second degree. The Worshipful Master then asked the following officers to assist him.. WBro Terry Ryan PProvAG SuptWks, to hold his office as Senior Warden, WBro Robert Walton PProvAGSupWks to hold his office as Junior Warden, WBro Jeffrey Raynes PProvAGStdB to act as Installing Inner Guard, and the, Chaplain, DC and ADC to hold their respective offices for the Proclamation ceremony. The Worshipful Master asked all below the rank of a Master Mason to retire from the Lodge for a short period and then opened the Lodge in the third degree. The Director of Ceremonies then asked all below the rank of Grand Officer to rise and salute WBro Brian Mayoh PGStdB Representative of the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master, with the Grand or Royal sign three times. WBro Mayoh responded and the WM cordially welcomed him. The Director of Ceremonies then Proclaimed Brother Philip Rose as Worshipful Master for the ensuing year for the first time. There were no perambulations but directed by the DC, the Master Masons greeted the Worshipful Master with the Grand or Royal Sign three times. WBro Robert Walton PProvAGSuptWks presented the Working Tools of the third degree to acclaim. He did not explain these to the Worshipful Master explaining that as Master he was already well acquainted with them. The Lodge was closed in the third degree and the Worshipful Master asked for Fellow Crafts to be re-admitted. From the South the Director of Ceremonies then made the second Proclamation and as directed by the DC, the Fellow Crafts greeted the Worshipful Master as Fellow Crafts five times. WBro Walton, presented the Working Tools of the second degree. He did not explain these to the Worshipful Master explaining that as Master he was already well acquainted with them.

Page: 3 of 8 The Worshipful Master then closed the Lodge in the second degree. The Worshipful Master asked for Entered Apprentices to be admitted. The Director of Ceremonies then made the third Proclamation from the West and the Entered Apprentices greeted the Worshipful Master with the Entered Apprentice sign three times. WBro Walton presented the Working Tools of the first degree. Page: 4 of 8 Presentation of Donations to Charity to mark the retirement of Senior Retiring and Retired, Officers The Worshipful Master explained that two Senior Officers, WBro Stephen Simpson and WBro John Linton were retiring at this Installation Meeting after many years in office and that in the past WBro Keith Podmore and WBro Peter Schick had likewise retired in the past from office after very long service. The lodge was taking the special step to mark these retirements by making donations from General Funds to Masonic Charities to recognize in a tangible way the outstanding service these Officers had given to the Lodge over so many years. The Worshipful Master s address explaining the part these Officer s had played in the Lodge over a very long period is appended to these Minutes. The Worshipful Master then made a presentation of a Cheque for 300 to Cheshire Freemasons Charity (CFC) and handed him a letter explaining the reason for the donation to Charity. Addresses WBro Terry Ryan PPAGSuptWks gave the address to the Wardens. WBro Jack Weiner, gave the address to the Brethren. This concluded the ceremony of Installation. Royal Arch Contact Officer Following a vote on a proposition from WBro Barnfield and seconded by WBro Moritz, WBro Peter Schick PProv JGW was re-appointed. Representative to the Area Committee The Secretary indicated that the Lodge was required to re-confirm the appointment of WBro Jonathan Shasha PProvSGD. Following a vote on a proposition from W.Bro Moritz and seconded by WBro Schick, the appointment was re-confirmed. Propositions The Secretary reported that the Lodge had a further new potential candidate, Jack Lightfoot. The candidate had been interviewed by the Lodge Committee and recommended to the Lodge. The potential Candidate was a further new potential young Member who was a colleague and friend of Bro Hester. The Secretary indicated that Clearance had been obtained under Rule 158 of the Book of Constitutions as the Jack neither lives nor works in Cheshire. The Worshipful Master gave a Notice of Motion to Propose Jack William Lightfoot as a Candidate for balloting at the next meeting and Bro Reuben Hester Seconded the Notice of Motion.

Page: 5 of 8 Almoner s Report The Almoner, WBro Jack Weiner gave his first Report to the Lodge as Almoner. The Worshipful Master took the opportunity to thank the outgoing Almoner, The new Almoner had nothing to report. WBro Eric Salem PprovSGD reported on Bro David Peppi who had recently been receiving treatment and was now feeling better and he hoped to attend a future Lodge meeting shortly. Bro Michael Marks was also welcomed back into Lodge, by the Worshipful Master, having been absent for some months due to illness. Charity Steward s Report The new Charity Steward, WBro Barry Besbrode PProvGSwdB, thanked the brethren for their generosity. WBro Besbrode then read out the list of the disbursements the lodge was making this evening. The amounts were as follows Masonic Charities Cheshire Freemasons Charity (CFC): 900.00 Non-Masonic Charities Wipe Your Tears (Master s Charity) 200.00 Shelter 150.00 Beechwood Cancer Care 150.00 Ticker Club at Wythenshawe Hospital 150.00 Wilmslow Wells 150.00 Sub Totals, ( ) 900 Salvation Army 150.00 950.00 TOTAL: 1,850.00 The Worshipful Master then passed the cheque for Masonic Charities to the Provincial Representative who thanked the Brethren for their very generous donations to both Masonic and Non-Masonic Charities.

Page: 6 of 8 Report of the Lodge Representative to the Area WBro Shasha reported on the Area 3 Meeting held on 31 st January 2019 as follows He had not been able to attend as he was away on holiday. He readout the bullet points from the Area Meeting report supplied by the Area Secretary. WBro Mayoh, as Area Secretary, mentioned the important Meetings to explain the Member s Pathway project. One of these is on 8 th April at Clay Lane. He also mentioned the Area Prostate screening session being held at Sandbach on Saturday 2 nd March and the importance of Members attending. Alms The Alms collection raised 61.00. The transaction of any other Lodge Business The Secretary reported the important and happy news that the Worshipful Master and his wife Amy, had become grandparents for the first time with the birth of a grandson Emmett to Richard and his wife in Seattle USA, at the beginning of February. The Worshipful Master reported the equally happy news that the outgoing Secretary, WBro John Moritz and his wife Miriam had become grandparents for the third time with the birth of their first Grandson Alon, to their daughter, Devorah and Sam in London in December. Several Lodge Members attended the funeral for WBro Basil Gilbert OBE which was held on 27 th January 2019. This was much. appreciated by the family. W Bro Schick the Lodge s Royal Arch Contact Officer rose and addressed the Brethren about the importance of Brethren considering and joining the Royal Arch and Massada Chapter in particular. He explained that this year is the 150 tth anniversary of the Royal Arch is Chester. It was hoped to attract 150 exaltees into the Royal Arch a and Chapter s in the Province were well on the way to achieving that target. WBro Schick mentioned that Area 3 was organizing a special event on April 16 th to celebrate 150 years of Royal arch Masonry when to exaltees would be exalted into the Royal Arch by a demonstration Team drawn from Chapter s across the Area. Two Members of Massada Chapter formed part of the Demonstration team. Four Members of Massada Chapter had received Honors in the Royal Arch. Three of them were Members of Massada Lodge: WBro John Moritz was to receive his First Appointment as Past Provincial Grand Standard Bearer. WBro Jonathan Shasha was to receive Acting Rank as 2 nd Assistant Provincial Grand Sojourner and WBro Podmore was to receive a promotion to Past Provincial Assistant Grand Sojourner.

Page: 7 of 8 Risings The Worshipful Master rose for the first time. There were the following commands from United Grand Lodge, Installation Returns and Grand Lodge Dues for the Treasurer. The March Quarterly Communication papers. The Worshipful Master rose for the second time. There were the following communications from Provincial Grand Lodge. Notification from Provincial Office of the Annual Meeting of the Cheshire Freemasons Charity held Tuesday 4th th December 2019 Notification from Provincial Office on 6 th February 2019 that WBro His Honour Simon Edward Medland QC of Cestrian Lodge No: 425 was to be appointed Provincial Grand Registrar with WBro Jack McGarva becoming the Assistant Grand Registrar. Notification from Provincial Office that the current WBro Philip Royston Jones PAGDC of the University of Chester Lodge no 4477 was to retire from his position after 4 years and be replaced by WBro Paul Sandiford PProvJGW of Werneth Lodge No 4478 as Provincial Director of Ceremonies. As a result, WBro Tom Smith of Affinity Lodge No: 4872 will be appointed Provincial Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies. WBro Mike Steggles of University Lodge is to. be appointed PProvDepGDC. Notification from the Area 3 Secretary of a social media campaign called 50 Masons 50 Stories. This is to encourage Masons of all ranks, backgrounds and experience to participate. The Secretary has the appropriate form for Brethren to complete. Notification from the Area 3 Secretary of a Curry Night being hosted by Affinity Lodge No 4872 on Tuesday 26 th March 2019. This event is being attended by our Area 3 APGM, WBro Adrian Davies PSGD and features a presentation of Preparing a Candidate for Initiation by the Master Masons Forum and an Explanation of the 1st Degree Tracing Board. This event is being held at Clay Lane and Tyles at 6.15pm. Notification from the Area 3 Secretary of a Provincial Crown Green Bowling Competition to be held in the Summer of 2019. It is to take the form of a league competition to be run across all 5 Areas of the Province with the top two teams competing in a Grand Final. At this stage it is a call for Members to join an Area 3 Team. Notification from the Area 3 Secretary about the Prostate Screening Sessions. Brethren were reminded that the Area 3 session takes place on Saturday 2 nd March 2019 at Sandbach Masonic Hall between 9.30am and midday for anyone who missed the session in Stockport last Saturday. Provincial Installation Returns and Annual Return

He conveyed best wishes from the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master, R.W.Stephen Martin Blank, and his Assistant, WBro Adrian Davies. He congratulated the Worshipful Master and all the Officers on a splendid evening. The Worshipful Master responded appropriately and WBro Mayoh then withdrew accompanied by Provincial Officers. The Worshipful Master rose for the third time The Secretary reported A letter written to WBro Bernard Bloom advising him of his election to Honorary Membership of this Lodge. The Secretary wrote on behalf of the Worshipful Master and Brethren to Bro David Peppi sending best wishes whilst he was undergoing treatment. The Secretary had visited Bro Peppi earlier in the week and found him to be in good form. The Secretary wrote on behalf of the Worshipful Master to Andrew Gilbert sending condolences following to Andrew, his brother, Peter and sister Stephanie, following the death of WBro Basil Gilbert.
