July Trestleboard Inside this issue: From the East 1 From the West 2 From the South 3 Masonic Education 2 York Rite Messenger 4 DeMolay Messenger 5 Master Mason Association 4 Officer Contact 5 Items of Note 2 Lodge Committee Chmn. 5 Sickness & Distress Brethren, please report any sickness or distress among the craft to our Lodge Representative, Andrew Gluchov 407-765-4447 2160 MAIN STREET SARASOTA, FLORIDA 34237 Brethren, I want to express my thoughts this month on the Fraternity more so our Lodge in general. Sarasota 147 should be and is a very proud Lodge. We have a rich history that has led to worthy traditions. While some lodges in the State have gone to the way side or even serve no function, even to the Craft, we at Sarasota 147stand tall. 147 is part of the amazing 27th Masonic District, a district known for its contributions and participation in Grand Lodge functions and events. I have been charged to uphold the standards, operations, and traditions of this beloved Lodge. A charge I willingly and knowingly accepted. The past 6 months I have grown to have a deeper appreciation of those who have come before me as the Master of the Lodge. I have learned the meaning of strength as well as being humble. To be assertive as well as to take wise counsel. To speak and to listen. To take charge and to delegate. These, my Brothers, are just a few of the lessons I have learned as the Master of the Lodge. I now will pass on to you a lesson I learned early. Not as a Worshipful Master but as a Brother of this Lodge. It is a lesson of Brotherly Love and Affection. What it means to you might have a different meaning than it does for me. I hope not. For it should be a universal lesson in our journey to further light. When I step into our hall for Fellowship I Tue 9 th From the East see smiles and laughter, feel the warmth of love for one another, as we come together for something greater than us as individuals. We hold our meetings and conduct the business as needed. I feel that after we close our great lights we close ourselves to certain aspects of Freemasonry. Why say this? As I walk out our hall, I hear criticism, weakness, and disappointment. All this I welcome. I was asked what a mistake is. My reply: An opportunity to improve. If a Brother feels that the lodge needs improvement then please step up and be recognized. But I ask you this: what will you do to fix the situation. Too easy is it to point out faults. Results are the product of work and determination. I have been told that Brothers have left lodge because they are dissatisfied with the lodge. If you are "dissatisfied" with the Lodge or some aspect of Lodge, Please let me know. Together we can identify the problem, together come up with a solution, and TOGETHER we build a stronger Lodge It is my intention not to offend the Craft but let the Craft reflect on itself from my perspective. We have to keep our discord within due bonds, foster and nurture Brotherhood, and promote Harmony. When a Brother is in need of correction or advice, provide him your instruction or knowledge with an instructive tongue and gentle hand. For remember, he is as proud of 147 as you are. Why else would you be at lodge? With Brotherly Love and Affection, Juan de la Rosa Worshipful Master Lodge Calendar July 2013 7:30p Stated Communication- D.D.G.M. Official Visit R:.W:. From the West Greetings from the West, Happy Independence Day, Brethren. May your 4th of July be filled with fun and joy for all. Most importantly, while you re enjoying your holiday, keep in your thoughts the bravery of our founding fathers to take that great step to make this day possible. At our first stated meeting this month our DDGM will make his official visit. It brings great pride to the lodge to see one of our own Past Masters visit his home Lodge. R:.W:. Norm Cyphers will be relaying MWGM Danny R Griffith s message to the craft. We will also have W:. Mike Grimes do a presentation on the Grand Lodge flagship charity, the MMRL. Show your support by attending this very informational meeting. Our second stated communication will include a very important ballot. We will be balloting on a Honorary and Perpetual Membership for Most Worshipful Grand Master Danny R Griffith. For those interested in furthering his Masonic knowledge, open books will take place at our lodge on Saturday, July 13th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come out and take advantage of this opportunity to become proficient in your Masonic work. Saturday, July 20th, starting at 7a.m. we will have a lodge clean-up day. We plan to do quite a bit around the lodge to include power washing, spot painting and rearranging the décor of the lodge. We encourage the wives to attend to lend that woman s touch in the rearrangement part. Any tools or equipment that you can bring to help assist would be greatly appreciated! As a token of his appreciation for all that attend, the Worshipful Master, himself, will provide a wonderful breakfast. Fraternally, Damian Ostermeyer Senior Warden Masonic Education There are two major endowment funds promoted by the Grand Lodge. The first is the Fraternal Administrative Endowment Fund, more commonly known as the FA-100. The FA-100 was established in 1993. Its objective is to create a fund large enough to allow the dividends to fund Grand Lodge and eventually eliminate the need for a per capita tax currently charged to all lodges. The other is the Masonic Home Endowment Fund, also known as the MH-100. The goal of the MH-100 is to create a fund that can maintain the Masonic Home from basic administrative costs all the way to capital improvements through dividend returns. The help increase the MH-100, Grand Lodge sponsors a competition between lodges and districts through the Let Your Pennies Make Good Cents program. The Grand Lodge compares lodges and districts by both an actual dollar basis as well as a per capita basis and gives plaque awards to the top finishers. I ve greatly enjoyed being able serve as your Junior Warden in the first half and will continue to do the same in the second half. We have a called communication on Saturday, July 13th, for the purpose of raising Brother Harrison Sherwin to the sublime degree of Master Mason. Please join us at 1pm for some refreshments with the degree beginning at 2pm. Our Senior Warden, Damian Ostermeyer, will be serving as the degree Master. This is a special occasion as Brother Sherwin is the sitting State Master Counselor of Florida DeMolay. This is only the 2nd time in Florida history that this has happened, so join us for this unique occasion. A number of lodges in the district are dark either for one or both of their meetings this month. Invite those brothers to join us in fellowship for dinner before our meetings as our Stewards have been doing an excellent job making sure we are well taken care of. Between the quality of the meal and their serenading of our Worshipful Master, they continue to be most entertaining. I hope everyone has a happy and safe Independence Day.
