Made One by Christ Welcome News for the Good of the Church Prelude Prelude in D Minor J. S. Bach Choral Call to Worship Opening Prayer *Hymn #319 Men of Faith, Rise Up and Sing Clothed by Christ Moment of Silence Corporate Prayer of Confession In the name of Christ, I urge you: Be reconciled to God. Trusting in God s grace, let us confess our sin. ** As we journey with Christ toward Jerusalem, we find ourselves wanting to turn away: to choose glory over suffering, success over justice, comfort over peace, independence over discipleship. We want to believe that we will be loyal to Christ until the end, but we fear that we will join the crowd in shouting, Crucify. Forgive us, God of life, of all the ways we fail to answer Your call. Bind us in Your love, free us by Your grace, and enliven us by Your Spirit to follow Christ once more. Listen; the time has come at last. Look; now is the day of salvation! In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God. Sharing of Christ s Peace * Please rise in body and spirit. The hymns are in the burgundy Glory to God hymnal found in the pew racks. ** Words in bold print are spoken aloud as a congregation.

* Song of Praise, Hymn #633 Praise Ye the Lord Sharing God s Blessings and Compassion Presentation of Tithes and Offerings Musical Offering Come, Ye Diconsolate arr. Alice Parker Michael Broadhurst, soloist *Doxology Hymn #606 Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow * Affirmation of Faith the Apostles Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. * Hymn #115 Hearing God s Word of Hope and Power Time with the children First Reading Philippians 3:4-14 pages 1023-1024 Gospel Reading Luke 4:1-3, 13 page 892 Sermon Lent 5: Still Hungry Rev. Steve Frazier *Hymn #501 Feed Us, Lord Invitation to the Lord s Table The Great Prayer of Thanksgiving The Lord be with you. Lift up your hearts. And also with you. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

The Lord s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Communion of the People Taking Christ s Blessing to the World *Hymn #518 Your Only Son (Lamb of God) *Charge *Benediction (sung) Postlude Voluntary Walter Come, Ye Disconsolate Come, ye disconsolate, where er you languish; Come, at the mercy seat, fervently kneel. Here bring your wounded hearts; Here tell your anguish; Earth has no sorrow that heav n cannot heal. Joy of the desolate, light of the straying, Hope of the penitent, fadeless and pure! Here speaks the Comforter, in mercy saying, Earth hath no sorrow that heav n cannot cure. Here see the bread of life, see waters flowing Forth from the throne of God, pure from above. Come to the feast prepared; come, ever knowing Earth hath no sorrow but heav n can remove.

We see ourselves as the embracing arms of Jesus Christ for each other, for the community, and for the world. Welcome to our friends and visitors! We hope that you find our congregation a welcoming one. Please join us after worship for post-worship fellowship (refreshments and fellowship) in our courtyard lobby.
