bible story Paul Changes 6a Narrator: Saul had a reputation for harassing the believers in Jesus. He visited the high priest in Jerusalem to discuss his mission. Saul: High priest, I am on a mission to seek out the believers in Jesus and put them in prison. High Priest: Saul, I have heard of your reputation for seeking out believers. These letters are for the synagogues in Damascus giving you the authority to take as prisoners any persons you find who belong to the Way. When you find them, bring them back to Jerusalem and put them in prison. Narrator: Saul set out for Damascus with his letters to the synagogues to put his mission into practice. A number of people joined him on the trip. But it didn t quite turn out the way he expected. Person traveling with Saul: We were walking on the road to Damascus when suddenly a light from heaven encircled Saul. When the light shone on Saul, he fell to the ground. Then a voice from heaven spoke to Saul. Jesus: Saul, Saul, why are you harassing me? Saul: Who are you, Lord? Jesus: I am Jesus, the one you are harassing. Get up, Saul, and go into the city. You will be told what to do then. Jesus: Ananias, go to Judas house on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul. He is praying. I have given him a vision of a man named Ananias coming to him and restoring his sight. Ananias: Lord, I have heard of this man. He has done horrible things to the believers in Jerusalem, and he has come here to Damascus to arrest anyone who calls on your name. Jesus: Ananias, go! This man will be my agent to carry my message to the Gentiles, kings, and Israelites. Narrator: Ananias went to find Saul and placed his hands on him. Ananias: Brother Saul, Jesus sent me to restore your sight, and you will be filled with the Holy Spirit. Narrator: Instantly, flakes fell from Saul s eyes, and he could see again. When he got up and ate something, his strength was restored. He was baptized to show how God had changed his heart and life. Right away he began to share what Jesus had done for him, and he told everyone that Jesus was God s Son. (Based on Acts 9:1-19) Person traveling with Saul: When we helped Saul get up, we realized that he was blind. So we led him by the hand into Damascus where the voice from heaven told him to go. Narrator: For three days, Saul was blind, and he didn t eat or drink anything. The Lord spoke to a disciple named Ananias who lived in Damascus.
