A MESSAGE FROM FR. TRUC So [the Twelve] went off and preached repentance. [They} drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them (Mk 6). Dear Parishioners and Visitors: This coming Wednesday, July 15, will be my birthday. During the last several years, a few number of our parishioners would organize my birthday celebration after a Sunday mass. This is a wonderful occasion for us forming and building community. I am humbled of their generosity and hospitality in making the event such a delightful celebration. The group was also able to invite so many people to volunteer for the event. The food, desserts, and drinks will be delicious and plentiful. I invite you to come and join me in this celebration so that I will have an opportunity to get to know you and your family and for you to get to know other people in our parish. Preaching Repentance and Healing the Sick Following the footsteps of Jesus, listening and witnessing to Jesus teaching, the Twelve Apostles are now being commissioned by Jesus to evangelize the message of Jesus. Jesus is giving instructions to them and at the same time empowering the Apostles in their ability to anoint, and heal those who are sick. Preparation and empowerment are two important qualities that will support the spirit of collaboration and teamwork. The ART of living: Acceptance, Rejection, and Tolerance Who will put fire under your feet or who will be opened to listening when you speak? Last Sunday, in my homily, I reflected on the role of the prophet accepting and/or rejecting the calling of God. The ART of living is hinging on our abilities to discern what or when to accept, reject or tolerate certain people or things in life. 1. Acceptance brings about certain openness and awareness to certain reality or situation in life. Being accepted by others creates a very positive self image and self confidence. Psychologically we all want to be accepted in one level of another. 2. Rejection is never easy; there are many reasons why rejection occurs in life. People reject others because of religions, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation. The effect of rejection could lead to violence, killing, or war. For example, the recent killing in South Carolina because of race is a great tragedy. The uprising of ISIS attacking, invading, and killing of innocent people because of religion is horrific. 3. Tolerance is a virtue that we all need to learn. Paul in 2 Corinthians chapter writes: Therefore, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and constraints, for the sake of Christ; for when I am weak, then I am strong. Realizing who we are and our relationship with Jesus and our weaknesses will help each one of us to be more tolerating with one another. Remember we are all called to preserve, protect, and promote the gift of the Holy Eucharist. Be Informed of your Faith! Be Interested in Our Community and Church! Be Involved and make a difference. Have a blessed week ahead in God s love and protection and may you have a restful summer. WORSHIP, LITURGY & FAITH SENT BY GOD In Amos' time the vocation of prophet had achieved a very formal status in Israel. The prophets had arisen, originally, to act as God's voice when Israel was no longer led by the spiritual/civil figures known as "judges," but by monarchs. Over time, the monarchy had appropriated the offices of priest and prophet, established them into companies, and reserved the right to appoint courtly prophets. Then, as now, when those in power also got to choose who would act as their official conscience, things sometimes went awry. At such times, God raised up prophets from unlikely places, and this is how Amos received his vocation as prophet. In last week's Gospel we heard how Jesus was raised up as God's anointed from a place many viewed as unlikely. As we continue to discern our own vocation as baptized disciples, we can be assured that we are, in Paul's words, "chosen, destined in accord with the purpose of the One who accomplishes all things according to the intention of his will" (Ephesians 1:11). Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co. MISSIONARY COOPERATIVE PLAN : JULY 18-19, 2015 Hello Cathedral Chapel parish! I am Rev. John Bosco Musinguzi, a Ugandan-American Catholic Priest incardinated in Diocese of Nyundo in Rwanda. I am a research student writing my Dissertation to finish my Doctorate. I went to work in Rwanda, after the 1994 genocide in the country that claimed more than 800,000 lives. The Bishop of the Diocese of Nyundo, delegates me every year to speak on his behalf. The Bishop launched pastoral programs to establish Vocational schools in the Diocese to provide technical training to orphans and poor youth who were not able to go to school as a result war. The areas of skills training includes: carpentry, building, automechanics/driving, plumbing, welding, tailoring, catering, hair stylist/or beautician, and computer science. The skills are meant to empower the young people to create jobs or to seek jobs that they have a regular source of income to support themselves, to be productive Christians who support the Mission of the Church, and contribute to build the local economy of their country. Your generosity will be greatly appreciated to help the less fortunate young people in Rwanda to build their future after the destruction of the 1994 genocide. God bless you for your love, mercy and generosity. Peace! ~ Fr. Bosco Please give a warm Cathedral Chapel welcome to Fr. Bosco. He will celebrate all the Masses with us on the weekend of July 18-19, 2015., CONSECRATED LIFE THROUGH THE AGES 1517 Martin Luther proposes 95 theses in Wittenberg, Germany, symbolically beginning the Protestant Reformation and its accompanying social and religious upheaval. 1534-1585 St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross are Carmelite mystics, writers, and reformers in Spain whose writings continue to influence Catholic spirituality. 1540 Jesuits are founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola. Their efforts in education and mission continue to wield influence in the church and world. 1545-1563 Council of Trent encourages renewal of religious orders and new forms of religious life. (to be continued next week.) St. Paul says we should put on virtue; we should wear compassion, kindness, pa ence, gentleness colorful and obvious as our ou its. Paul wants us to wear our allegiance to Christ on our sleeves if you will not as a boast like a Gucci or Prada logo, but as simple, humble sign that this woman, this man, this youngster belongs to Christ, and you ll know it because you can see that she or he is dressed in love. ~ Take Five for Faith: Daily renewal for Busy Catholics

Update on SB 128 July 7, 2015 - Thank you to the thousands who responded to our Action Alerts in opposition to SB 128. You have truly been a voice for life and dignity in California. Physician-Assisted Suicide Bill Withdrawn from California Legislature Edward 'Ned' Dolejsi, executive director of the California Catholic Conference, issued the following on July 7, 2015: "This morning we received the news that SB128 has been pulled from the agenda at the Assembly Health Committee and that the bill will not be considered again this year. "We are very pleased at the outcome and grateful for the hard work done by the assembled coalition at Californians Against Assisted Suicide. The physicians, health care workers, disabled advocates, religious groups and others who came together to oppose the bill was key to the success of the campaign and we are proud to have played a role in that long-standing coalition." An Invitation from Archbishop Jose Gomez to the Immigration Mass on July 19, 2015 Our church has always been a church of immigrants, just as our nation has always been a nation of immigrants. This year join me to celebrate the contribution of our community s many immigrants to the life of our nation and to the faith of our church. We will hold our special Mass in Recognition of all Immigrants at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels on Sunday, July 19, 2015, 4:00pm with pre-gathering at 3:00pm. This year, we will be praying to keep our hope alive and for guidance we need as a country. I m inviting each parish and religious community to participate in the procession that will begin the Mass. I pray that Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas, may use this time of prayer to unite us in solidarity with our brothers and sisters and draw us all closer to her Son, Jesus Christ.
