IMPLEMENTATION GUIDE 15 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT OUR STRATEGIC PLAN Where there is no vision, the people will perish. Proverbs 29:18

Our Journey Together The future of the faithful and Parishes of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of San Francisco depends on how diligently we pursue this Strategic Plan as stewards of God s many blessings. I look forward to sharing this journey of faith with you. His Eminence, Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco

1. Why We re Doing This The ultimate goal of our Metropolis Strategic Plan is to provide our Priests and Lay Leaders with an array of Ministries, Services, Activities and Programs which can be readily and easily used within their respective Parishes. We will do this in a manner which affirms our commitment and support of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. It is our intent to recognize their leadership and build upon existing programs.

2. Vision & Mission Since the Metropolis of San Francisco is an integral part of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, His Eminence, Metropolitan Gerasimos and the Strategic Planning Committee affirmed and adopted the Archdiocese s Mission Statement as the Metropolis Mission Statement to: 1. proclaim the Gospel of Christ; 2. teach and spread the Orthodox Christian Faith; 3. energize, cultivate, and guide the life of the Church according to the Orthodox Christian Faith and Tradition 3

3. We are in the Implementation Phase July 2012 Phoenix Today Prayer & Communication February 2014 Clergy-Laity Assembly Approval

4. Implementation Principles Love and Understanding Must Guide Us Key Implementation Leaders: Our Clergy Parish Level support and adoption is key. Parishes over PMO The needs, readiness and ability of a Parish to implement must be considered at all times. Resiliency is a Real Issue Many Parishes are resource constrained. Extensive Communication & Transparency Expand the use and presence of the Metropolis Website by providing frequent updates. Cascade information by providing Priests relevant information first. Support our Coordinators and Captains We all must lend support, and offer great thanks, to our volunteers as they diligently develop their assigned programs. 5

5. Insights on our 37 Strategic Goals Are All 37 Goals Intended For Parish-Wide Implementations? No 19 Parish Specialized Groups 9 Parish-Wide 9 Metropolis Level 6 Plan

6. Swap-Out Are Parishes Required to Implement Goals as designed? Yes and No From His Eminence, Metropolitan Gerasimos: Swap-Out Policy We are asking that each and every Parish within our Metropolis support our Strategic Plan by fully providing the Ministries, Programs and Services described within the Plan. However, if you are currently using a program at your Parish, and would like to continue using it because of its effectiveness, you may do so. In those instances, I do ask that you share your program with the Strategic Goal s respective Captain, so we may consider it for broader use. 7

7. Leadership at all Levels is Vital His Eminence, Metropolitan Gerasimos & Planning Teams Visionary Level Program Level PMO & Vicars Coordinators (11 Task Areas) & Captains (37 Goals) Development Level Parish Level Priests, Parish Councils, Metropolis Advocates & Ministry Leaders 8 Plan

8. The Role of the Metropolis Advocate 1. Selection 2. Parish Communications Plan Presentations by year-end Updates Bulletin or Newsletter articles 3. Resource Support 4. Parish Representative 9

15. Readiness Tips Suggestions to Prepare for Implementation Familiarize yourself with the Strategic Plan s goals (either the full plan or the Quick Reference which is on the Implementation website). Review the overall Implementation Schedule. Meet with your Parish Council President, Ministry Leaders and Metropolis Advocate to discuss how the Strategic Plan can support your Parish. Periodically visit the Metropolis Website to stay current with the plan. Create an annual Parish Implementation Plan which links to the Strategic Plan Implementation Calendar. Consider creating a three year Strategic Plan for your Parish, using the Metropolis Strategic Planning For Parishes (planned for a February release) as a possible starting point. 16 Plan
