From the Interim Pastor, Steve Nelson The Messenger St. Peter Lutheran Church May 2018 Our Parish Secretary, Kay Hoersten, will be retiring June 30 th. We are currently looking for a replacement. I have really enjoyed Kay and the faithful service she has given to myself as the pastor and this congregation. I thought it might be a way to show our gratitude to her if I interviewed her before she leaves. So here are some questions I asked her. 1. How long have you been working as parish secretary at St. Peter Lutheran Church. Seven years. 2. Who trained you and what was it like when you started here? Susan McGue taught me what she could. Alida Pletcher taught me how to do bulletins. Otherwise Pastor Angela and I just had to figure it out. Pastor Angela had only been here two months when I started. The Church found out after Ella died just how much she did for St. Peter Lutheran. She did so much for so long and no one really knew how to do it but Ella. We all had to learn. 3. Why are you retiring now? I ve turned the magic age and my husband is retiring as well. 4. What are you looking forward to in retirement? Joining the Autumn Years Choir which my Mom plays piano. They sing at area nursing homes and I would like to do that. Also retiring gives me more time to spend with our grandkids. 5. What have you liked the most while working as the Parish Secretary? Kid s Breakfast has been a highlight for me. I see the kids come in at the beginning of the summer and they are so shy. By the end of the summer they feel right at home and are telling jokes. Also when they see me out on the street they say hello. You have some time to express your thanks to Kay as well before she retires and I hope that you will do that. The church council has been looking at updating the by-laws and we can't find a copy in the office. The church constitution for St. Peter was updated in 1993. Most likely the by-laws were updated then as well but they must have been separate documents. We can find the constitution but we can't find the by-laws. If you have a copy would you please bring it to the office? I would also like to thank those of you who gave your time to teach Sunday School this year and that includes Jacquie with Confirmation and Dave with the Adults as well. This is a great way to plant seeds of faith. Thank you for caring about this. I am grateful for you.

Summer Hours: June 3 rd through August 26 th Sunday worship services will be at 9:00 AM. Wednesday worship services will be at 7:00 PM, June through August. Throughout this past year the Children, Confirmation and Adult Sunday School classes have collected donations that have been put in our ELCA Good Gifts Fund, in hopes to collect enough money ($715) to purchase a farm which helps a family escape the cycle of hunger and poverty ~ For Good! We have also decorated and sold for donations plates of cookies at Christmas and Easter which brought in a good amount of money toward our fund. Then to ensure we could get our farm we asked for your help, and placed a plea in the newsletter, again you have went over and beyond expectations...with your generous donations not only can we get 1 farm...we ARE ABLE TO PURCHASE 3 of them. WOW!!! Thank You, Thank You!!! A Family Farm consists of a cow, a couple of goats, a dozen chickens, two pigs, farming tools, seeds, and agricultural training and support. With the giving of the new tools and techniques, crops will grow stronger than ever. From the animals eggs, milk and meat provide a lifetime of food to eat and sell on the market, all to gain their independence to care for their families. Again, without ALL of your generous donations St. Peter could not help out in giving to God's Global Barnyard, so thank you to all and God bless!!!! Carrie Calvelage and Donna Berger
