Welcome and Announcements Voluntary Adesto, sancta Trinitas Gerald Near Gathering The assembly stands and faces the processional cross. All may make the sign of the cross, the sign marked at baptism, as the presiding minister begins. Confession and Forgiveness (8:30) Pastor: People: Pastor: Pastor: People: Pastor: People: (Both our confession of sin and God s promise of mercy are rooted in our baptism. We come before God recalling our brokenness, but even more God s great grace poured out upon us because of Christ Jesus death, crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension.) Blessed be the holy Trinity, + one God, the fountain of living water, the rock who gave us birth, and who is our light and our salvation. Amen. Let us come into the light, the revealing and healing light of God. God of grace and glory, Silence is kept for reflection. you have brought us through the night of sin into the light of Jesus resurrection. Yet our lives are still shadowed by sin. Make us alive in Christ, O God. Make us new as you make all things new. Rescue us from evil and the gloom of sin, renew us in grace, and restore us to living in your holiness, through Jesus Christ, our risen Lord. Amen. Rejoice with all creation around God s throne! The light of the risen Christ puts to flight all evil deeds, washes away sin, restores innocence to the fallen, casts out hate, brings peace, and humbles earthly pride. Jesus Christ loves you and + frees you from your sins by his blood. To him be glory and dominion forever and ever! Amen. Sacrament of Holy Baptism (11:00) ELW page 227 Gathering Hymn Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty! ELW 413 (We sing as the Holy Spirit gathers us for worship. This hymn sets the tone for the day.) The Greeting Pastor: People: Hymn of Praise The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. (The Heavens declare Christ the lamb worthy of blessing and honor and worship - Rev. 5:12-13 and 7:12)

Prayer of the Day (This prayer collects the themes from today s Scripture readings.) God of heaven and earth, before the foundation of the universe and the beginning of time you are the triune God: Author of creation, eternal Word of salvation, life-giving Spirit of wisdom. Guide us to all truth by your Spirit, that we may proclaim all that Christ has revealed and rejoice in the glory he shares with us. Glory and praise to you, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen. First Reading: Proverbs 8:1-4, 22-31 The assembly is seated. Word In the Bible, wisdom has many faces. It is portrayed in terms sometimes human and sometimes divine. Often, it is personified as feminine. In this passage, Woman Wisdom is depicted not only as the first creation of God but also as God s helper, rejoicing in God s creation, especially in human beings. Does not wisdom call, and does not understanding raise her voice? On the heights, beside the way, at the crossroads she takes her stand; beside the gates in front of the town, at the entrance of the portals she cries out: To you, O people, I call, and my cry is to all that live. The Lord created me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of long ago. Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water. Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth when he had not yet made earth and fields, or the world s first bits of soil. When he established the heavens, I was there, when he drew a circle on the face of the deep, when he made firm the skies above, when he established the fountains of the deep, when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth, then I was beside him, like a master worker; and I was daily his delight,

rejoicing before him always, rejoicing in his inhabited world and delighting in the human race. Word of God, word of life. Thanks be to God. Psalm: Psalm 8 O Lord our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! you whose glory is chanted above the heavens out of the mouths of in- fants and children; you have set up a fortress against your enemies, to silence the foe and avenger. When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars you have set in their courses, what are mere mortals that you should be mind- ful of them, human beings that you should care for them? Yet you have made them little less than divine; with glory and hon- or you crown them. You have made them rule over the works of your hands; you have put all things un- der their feet: all flocks and cattle, even the wild beasts of the field, the birds of the air, the fish of the sea, and whatever passes along the paths of the sea. O Lord our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Second Reading: Romans 5:1-5 Paul describes the life of faith with reference to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Even now, we have peace with God through Jesus, and our hope for the future is grounded in the love of God that we experience through Christ s Holy Spirit. Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. Word of God, word of life. Thanks be to God. Gospel Acclamation The assembly stands. (We stand during the gospel because we believe our Lord is present with us and addresses us in the reading.)

( Gospel means good news and refers to the message about God s gracious work in Jesus Christ.) The Holy Gospel according to St. John, Chapter 16 (12-15). Glory to you, O Lord. Jesus ongoing presence with the disciples will be borne by the coming Spirit, who will guide them and communicate to them Jesus will and glory. [Jesus said,] I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. Time with the Children The assembly is seated. Sermon From the Church s experience, to doctrine, then, personally Pastor Cobb learned in scouting, Aunt Martha s kitchen and an ER Reflection and how about you? Silence is kept for reflection after the sermon. The assembly stands. Hymn of the Day Come, Join the Dance of Trinity ELW 412 (This hymn complements the day s Scripture readings and often underscores the message of the sermon.) The Nicene Creed (8:30) We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,* who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. Prayers of Intercession Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. Sharing of the Peace (The peace, which enables people to live in unity and in the spirit of mutual forgiveness, comes from Christ whose word has been proclaimed.) The peace of the Lord be with you always. And also with you. Receiving of Tithes and Offerings Motet O sacrum convivium! in quo Christus sumitur: recolitur memoria passionis eius: mens impletur gratia: et futurae gloriae nobis pignus datur. Alleluia. The assembly is seated. Olivier Messiaen O sacred banquet! in which Christ is received, the memory of his Passion is renewed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory to us is given. Alleluia. Offertory Hymn Let the Vineyards Be Fruitful ELW182 (This hymn becomes our prayer as our gifts are collected and dedicated to our Lord s service. Our offerings support the ministries of Christ s church in this congregation, our Virginia Synod, and our global mission partners.) Offertory Prayer Let us pray: Blessed are you, O God, ruler of heaven and earth. Day by day you shower us with blessings. As you have raised us to new life in Christ, give us glad and generous hearts, ready to praise you and to respond to those in need, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

The Great Thanksgiving Meal Proper Preface It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise we praise your name and join their unending hymn: Sanctus (The Holy, Holy, Holy echoes the heavenly chorus in Isaiah 6:3 and the crowds of Mark 11:9 as Jesus triumphantly enters Jerusalem. This reminds us that we are in the presence of a God identified both by holiness and humility.)

Thanksgiving at the Table (The Eucharistic (Thanksgiving) Prayer unites God s creative and redeeming acts throughout history to the work of Jesus Christ.) Blessed are you, O God of the universe. Your mercy is everlasting and your faithfulness endures from age to age. Praise to you for creating the heavens and the earth. Praise to you for saving the earth from the waters of the flood. Praise to you for bringing the Israelites safely through the sea. Praise to you for leading your people through the wilderness to the land of milk and honey. Praise to you for the words and deeds of Jesus, your anointed one. Praise to you for the death and resurrection of Christ. Praise to you for your Spirit poured out on all nations. In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. With this bread and cup we remember our Lord s passover from death to life as we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. O God of resurrection and new life: Pour out your Holy Spirit on us and on these gifts of bread and wine. Bless this feast. Grace our table with your presence. Come, Holy Spirit. Reveal yourself to us in the breaking of the bread. Raise us up as the body of Christ for the world. Breathe new life into us. Send us forth, burning with justice, peace, and love. Come, Holy Spirit. With your holy ones of all times and places, with the earth and all its creatures, with sun and moon and stars, we praise you, O God, blessed and holy Trinity, now and forever. Amen.

Lord s Prayer (When we pray for our daily bread, we are acknowledging that God provides for our needs each day.) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. At the breaking of the bread, the Presider says, Come to the table. Feast on God s abundant life for you. The assembly is seated. Agnus Dei (This canticle echoes John the Baptist s pronouncement in John 1:29 that Jesus is the Passover Lamb of God s people and the Savior of the world.) Communion As you receive the bread in your hand, you may commune by intinction using the silver chalice, or you may consume the bread and then drink from the pewter chalice.
