P: Thomas said to him, Lord, we don t know where you are going, so how can we know the way? Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him. John 14:5-6. Through this service may we reaffirm our faith to walk in His ways and live the life for Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen Opening Hymn Come, Holy Spirit, every cloud dispelling, Fill us with gladness, through the Master s name; Bring to our memory words that He hath spoken, Then shall our tongues His wondrous grace proclaim. Come, Holy Spirit, sent from od the Father Thou friend and teacher, comforter and guide Our thoughts directing, keep us close to Jesus, And in our hearts forevermore abide. Come, Holy Spirit, like a dove descending, Rest Thou upon us while we meet to pray; Show us the Savior, His great love revealing, Lead us to Him, the Life, the Truth, the Way. O Lord, accept our prayers and worship and have mercy on us. C. Glory be to you, O God. P. Glory be to you, O Creator. C. Glory be to you, O King the Messiah; who has mercy on us sinners. Bless us, O Lord. (Let us sing together the prayer that Jesus taught us) All: Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, On earth as it is done in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, Forever. Amen. (Cong. to be seated) Lesson-1 Exod 14:10-20 Lesson-2 Acts 16:19-24 L: Meditation I am the way and the truth and the life is one of the seven I Am statements of Jesus. On the last night before His betrayal and death, Jesus was preparing His disciples for the days ahead. For over three years, these men had been following Jesus and learning from His teaching and example. They had placed their hopes in Him as the Messiah, the promised deliverer, yet they still didn t understand how He was going to accomplish that deliverance. After the Last Supper, Jesus began speaking about His departure, which led to questions from His disciples. The way Jesus used the definite article to distinguish Himself as the only way. A way is a path or route, and the disciples had expressed their confusion about where He was going and how they could follow. As He had told them from the beginning, Jesus was again telling them (and us) follow me. There is no other path to heaven, no other way to the Father. Peter reiterated this same truth years later to the rulers in Jerusalem, saying about Jesus, Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). The exclusive nature of the only path to salvation is expressed in the words I am the way. The truth Again Jesus used the definite article to emphasize Himself as the only truth. Psalm 119:142 says, Your law is the truth. In the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5, Jesus reminded His listeners of several points of the Law, then said, But I say unto you... thereby equating Himself with the Law of God as the authoritative standard of righteousness. In fact, Jesus said that He came to fulfill the Law and the prophets (Matthew 5:17). Jesus, as the incarnate Word of God (John 1:1) is the source of all truth. The life Jesus had just been telling His disciples about His impending death. In John 10:17 18, Jesus declared that He was going to lay down His life for His sheep, and then take it back again. He spoke of His authority over life and death as being granted to Him by the Father. In John 14:19, He gave the promise that because I live, you also will live. The deliverance He was about to provide was not a political or social deliverance (which most of the Jews were seeking), but a true deliverance from a life of bondage to sin and death to a life of freedom in eternity.

https://www.gotquestions.org/way-truth-life.html Hymn More holiness give me, more strivings within. More patience in suffering, more sorrow for sin. More faith in my Savior, more sense of His care. More joy in His service, more purpose in prayer. More gratitude give me, more trust in the Lord. More zeal for His glory, more hope in His Word. More tears for His sorrows, more pain at His grief. More meekness in trial, more praise for relief. More purity give me, more strength to o ercome, More freedom from earth-stains, more longings for home. More fit for the kingdom, more useful I d be, More blessèd and holy, more, Savior, like Thee. Words & Music: Philip P. Bliss, in Sunshine for Sunday Schools, 1873 Thanksgiving L: The Jesus Way Oh, there's many a thorn on the Jesus-way, Many a thorn, I know; There is grief and loss and the pain of a cross Wherever my feet may go. But the Lord will heal all the wounds that I feel, When the thorns have pricked me sore, And He's planted a rose where the brier grows, For He's walked this path before. There is many a storm on the Jesus-way, Many a storm I see, When black is the cloud and the wind is loud And the waves go over me. But the Lord Himself is in my little ship And the storm obeys His will; At the word He hath said - "Be not afraid" My heart and the sea grow still. There is many a foe on the Jesus-way, Many a foe to fight, And all the day I must watch and pray To keep my armour bright. But the Lord is ever at my side The tempter's wiles to meet; Though the foe be strong and the strife be long, Jesus never knows defeat. Annie Johnson Flint (Cong to stand)

Prayer of Confession Kyrie Elieson, Kyrie Elieson, Kyrie Elieson Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy P: Holy Lord, God of life, hear our prayer C: Forgive us when we follow those paths that do not lead to life. We confess that we are weak. We don't like being incapable and insufficient. Forgive us for wanting to be sufficient in ourselves. Forgive us for wanting to be in control. Forgive us for not being willing to trust and rely on you and your grace. Forgive us when we forget that you offer us life, Life that is abundant and eternal, Life that began at the creation of all things. Forgive us and turn us to the right path, and let your love and grace flow over us and the world. We pray this in Jesus name the way, the truth and the life. Amen Kyrie Elieson, Kyrie Elieson, Kyrie Elieson Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy Intercessory Prayers L: Christ, you are the Savior, the Way to the Father, The Truth we depend on, the Life that we need. We trust you, believing! We listen, receiving The joy of the gospel by which we are freed. Yet, Lord, you remind us: Through mercy you find us, By grace you forgive us. The way home is yours! We dare not judge others, our sisters and brothers Whom you choose to welcome through love's open doors. C: To be sung Thy Word is a lamp to my feet, O Lord, Thy Word is a light to my way; It shines in my soul like a star by night, And comforts and cheers me by day. O wonderful, wonderful Word, My treasure, my hope, and my stay; Each promise recorded delights my soul, And brightens each step of my way. L: With outcast and sinner you sat down to dinner; You healed the Samaritans, Gentiles, too. The poor knew your caring-- the rich, your declaring That God welcomes everyone, not just a few. A conquering nation brought harsh occupation. A soldier came asking; you offered a hand. A thief saw your power in his final hour; You welcomed him home to God s heavenly land.

C: Thy Word is a lamp to my feet, O Lord, And, trusting in Thee as my all, Whatever of evil may cross my path, I never, no, never can fall. L: O Lord, all around us, your mercies astound us As others discover the Way you reveal. A man whispers, Help me! A woman cries, Mercy! A doubter discovers your welcome is real. O Way to the Father, your mercy is broader Than we as your people have often proclaimed. May we welcome others as sisters and brothers, And treasure the life that we share in your name. Thy Word is a lamp to my feet, O Lord, And oh, when Thy glory I see, For all the rich blessings its truth has brought, The praises will I give unto Thee. Prayer: Copyright 2014 Carolyn Winfrey Gillette. http://www.carolynshymns.com Hymn: Fanny Crosby Gospel Reading P: Peace be with you all. C: May the Lord make us all worthy to listen to His Word. P: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, which proclaims life and salvation to the world as recorded by John 21:20-25 - C: Blessed is He that has come and will come again. Praise to the Father who sent him for our Salvation. May His blessings be ever upon us. P: In the days of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, the Word of life, God incarnate of the blessed Virgin Mary, it happened in this way. C: So we believe and affirm. (After reading the Gospel, the priest says, 'Peace be with you all') C: We thank you, Lord, that you have given us your gospel which is indeed the light of the world, that we may be drawn closer to you through the living words from your gospel which we have now heard. The Nicene Creed We believe in the one true God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all world; Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made, who, for us men and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary, and was made man. He was crucified also for us in the days of Pontius Pilate; suffered and died and was buried. The third day He rose again, by His Father's holy will, ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father. He will come again, with glory, to judge both the living and the dead and of His kingdom there will be no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets and the apostles.

We believe in one Holy Catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and look forward to the resurrection of the dead, and the new life of the world to come. Amen. (Cong. to be seated) Birthday, Wedding Anniversary & Thanksgiving Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart; Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art; Thou my best Thought, by day or by night, Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light. Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word; I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord; Thou my great Father, I Thy true son; Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one. Riches I heed not, nor man s empty praise, Thou mine Inheritance, now and always: Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art. High King of Heaven, my victory won, May I reach Heaven s joys, O bright Heav n s Sun! Heart of my own heart, whate er befall, Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all. Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight; Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight; Thou my soul s Shelter, Thou my high Tower: Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power. Eleanor Hull, 1912 Offertory Hymn There is a Light, a blessèd Light, That comes from God above; And in the face of Christ the Lord, Reflects the Father s love. Let us walk in the Light, Ever walk in the Light of God; Let us walk in the Light, Ever walk in the Light of God. There is a Light, a glorious Light, That falls upon our way; And brighter shineth as we go, Till lost in perfect day. There is a light, a holy light, By which we now behold The jasper walls, the pearly gates And streets of shining gold. O blessèd, blessèd, Holy Light, To all so freely giv n;

Shine forth, shine forth, O Light of Life, And guide us safe to Heav n. Words -Fanny J Crosby, Music - Ira D, Sankey MESSAGE Closing Prayer P: Dear Jesus, the Way, the Truth, the Life, C: Show me the living way, That in the confusion and the strife, I may not go astray. Teach me Thy truth, O Christ, my Light, The truth that makes me free That in the darkness and the night, My trust shall be in Thee. The life that Thou alone canst give, Impart in love to me, That I may in Thy presence live, And ever be like Thee. Amen Words: George L. Squier, 1907 Prayer & Benediction P: You are the way, the truth, the life Without the way, there is no going Without the truth, there is no knowing Without the life, there is no growing Show us the way, that we may go Teach us the truth, that we may know Grant us the life, that we may grow Eternally. Eternal God, your Son Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life for all creation; May He grant us grace to walk in his way, May He bless us to rejoice in his truth, May He strengthen us to share his risen life; He who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God now and for ever. + Amen. *Theodore J. (Ted) Tracy, S.J. b. 1916 Doxology and kiss of peace

Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us o'er the world's tempestuous sea; Guide us, guard us keep us, feed us, for we have no help but thee; yet possessing every blessing, if our God our Father be. Saviour, breathe forgiveness o'er us: all our weakness thou dost know; thou didst tread this earth before us, thou didst feel its keenest woe; lone and dreary, faint and weary, through the desert thou didst go. Spirit of our God, descending, fill our hearts with heavenly joy, love with every passion blending, pleasures that can never cloy: thus provided, pardoned, guided, nothing can our peace destroy.
