P Preschool NURSERY KIDS & PRESCHOOLERS (Ages 1-2years & Ages 3-5years) Theme: Blessed Mums Memory verse:proverbs 31:28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her." Bible Story: Exodus 20:12, Colossians 3:20 (ESV), Proverbs 31:28 Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you. Mother's are very special, so special that they are mentioned in the Bible. The Bible gives us instructions on how to treat our mothers. Mothers are a blessing! And we are to honour and respect our mothers. God promises us a blessing when we do this. Do any of you know what the Ten Commandments are? They were rules that God gave to Moses for all Israel to follow. Each commandment is very important and God gave each commandment for a reason. One of the commandments says: Honour your father and you mother, so that all may go well for you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth. What does honour mean anyway? Honour can mean many things. When we listen, obey, love, appreciate, and forgive our mum even when she hurts us, we honour her. That means when she asks you to do something you should do it right away without complaining. When you show you love your mum by hugging her and telling her that you love her that's another way to honour. You can also appreciate your mum by thanking her when she does things for you (cleaning the house, washing or mending your clothes, making supper, helping you do your homework, etc.). Proverbs 31:28 asks us to bless our mum. It says, "Her children arise and call her blessed." By this God needs us to treat her like she's God's child (that's who she really is). Your mum used to be a child too and she's just trying her best to help you grow up right. So, treat her nicely! Another way to bless her is to make her happy. Do you make your mum happy? I'm sure you do a lot. Learn to listen to your mum and do what she asks of you and your mum would be happy with you. Colossians 3:20 (ESV) our last verse for today says: Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. I know that sometimes you think you don't always need to obey your mum but it's important that you obey her because it makes God happy! Finally know that no matter how old you get your mum will always be your mum. Never think that you can talk back to your mum or that you know more than her, for the Bible says to obey your parents always, not just when you're a kid even when become grown ups. Your parents want the best for you and know what they're talking about. Don't forget that we also have a heavenly father that cares and loves us no matter what. So if you don't have a mother around all the time (or even if you do) God is always there. LET'S PRAY AND THANK GOD FOR OUR MOTHERS! Lead the children in this simple prayer; Prayer: Dear God, Thank you for giving me the best Mum ever. I love and respect my Mum as your Word says and I am blessed today and always in Jesus' Name. Amen. 1

E Elementary P Preteens ELEMENTARY & PRETEENS (Ages 6-10 &11 12years) Theme: Learning From Mums Supply List: Bibles, short summaries of Biblical mums, paper, pencils, chalkboard/whiteboard, cardstock and art supplies such as stamps, stickers, foam pieces, markers, etc. Interest Builder: Teachers Prep Talk Learning Goals: Students will demonstrate knowledge of Biblical mothers. They will also identify ways that they can honour their own mothers. 1. Ask the students to brainstorm things that their mums like to say. For example, a) You may not be finished with dinner until you eat your vegetables. b) Don't pick your nose. c) I'm not going to ask you again. d) Please clean your room. e) You will always be my baby. f) Hello! What is the time? I thought you're supposed to be in bed now. 2. Ask the students to brainstorm things they can give their mums for Mother's Day: Cards, flowers, coupon books, cleaning their room, obedience, etc. Teacher: Introduction: 1. Tell them that you have the best gift ever for Mother's Day. The best thing they can give their mum is honour. Honour is showing respect for your mum in your own home and outside of your home where everyone can see. Read Deuteronomy 5:16. Honor your father and your mother as the LORD your God has commanded you. Then you will live for a long time, and things will go well for you in the land the LORD your God is giving you. How can we do that? Invite suggestions. (Talk highly of your mum, thank her for what she does, listen, give respect, gifts, time, surprise her, pray for her, etc!) Today we're going to learn about some mums in the Bible. Some followed God and some didn't. Some are remembered for their devotion to their kids others for their love for God, their children, and others. Let's see what we can learn from these mums! Teacher; Read out the write-up on the Biblical mums or divide the students into small teams of 2 or 3, depending on the size of your group. Distribute brief summaries of each mum, along with a scripture passage. Have them read about their Biblical mum so that they can answer the following questions. (Each team will be teaching about their mum upon completion of the assignment). 4

E Elementary P Preteens 1. What mum do you have? Who was/were her child/children? 2. Did she follow God? 3. What will she be remembered for? Memory Verse: Ephesians 6:2-3 Honour your father and mother (this is the first commandment with a promise), that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land. Confession: Thank you Lord for teaching me to honour my parents, as I choose this path; I enjoy a long and beautiful life in Jesus' Name. Amen Bible References: John 19:25-27 (NIV) Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and 26 Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved [ ] 27 standing nearby, he said to her, Woman, a here is your son, and to the disciple, Here is your mother. From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. According to our memory verse, when you honour your parents, you'll be blessed with a long life. Isn't that great! The Lord Jesus died that you may have life but one of the ways in which you will enjoy this life He's given you is for you to honour your parents. For example, don't talk back at them, be polite when addressing them and always be willing to help out in the house chores. In addition, greet them with respect and courtesy every morning. When you treat your parents that way, you'll be blessed by the Lord. Remember you didn't choose your parents, rather God chose them for you and the true test of your love for God is to appreciate the special gift He gave you in your parents. Note that the scripture above didn't say that your parents must have fulfilled any specific requirement for them to deserve this honour but rather God says in your obeying them you will be blessed. Wow! Today is Mothers Day! How are you going to honour your mum today? Think of something special you can do for your mum today. Do you know as little as a hug may seem it will be appreciated by your mum if you will do that today? How many of you are going to give mum a hug and tell her how much she means to you today? Do give your mum a good hug and tell her how much you appreciate her today. Guess what! Mummy will appreciate it and God also will bless you too. 5

E P Elementary Preteens SHORT SUMMARIES OF BIBLICAL MUMS (with Scripture references) 1. Eve: Eve was the first wife and mum. She shared a special relationship with God until she sinned. All men became born with a sin nature because of Eve. Read Genesis 3:1-6 and Genesis 3: 20. 2. Hannah: Hannah was the mum of Samuel, a judge of Israel. She was unable to have children for many years, but called out to God and God heard her prayer. She promised to give Samuel to God for his whole life and she did. Read 1 Samuel 1:10-11 and 1 Samuel 1:27-28. 3. Mary: Mary was the mother of Jesus. She was chosen by God to have Jesus because God saw something special in her. She was an ordinary girl, but she obeyed God in extraordinary circumstances. She knew the Word of God well. Read Luke 1:35-38. 4. Jochebed: Jochebed was the mother of Moses. When she gave birth to Moses, there was an order to kill all of the Hebrew baby boys. In faith, she didn't kill her son, but hid him for three months. Pharaoh's daughter found Moses in the river. Years later, he became the hero who led the Israelites out of Egypt into freedom. Read Exodus 2:1-4. 5. Sarah: Sarah became Isaac's mum when she was over 100. She was Abraham's wife, who laughed at the promise that she would have a child. Before Isaac was born, she got impatient to have a baby and tried to take matters into her own hands. She caused a lot of problems by doing that. Read Genesis 21:1-3 and Genesis 21:6-7. 6. Elizabeth: Elizabeth was the mother of John the Baptist, who prepared the way for Jesus. The angel Gabriel told her husband Zechariah that she would have a baby at a very old age. He didn't believe this at first, but it was true. Elizabeth was a woman who followed God. Read Luke 1:39-45. 7. Rebekah: Rebekah was Isaac's wife and Esau and Jacob's mum. She was a beautiful woman who was first noticed because she served others unselfishly. She was a hard worker. Rebekah followed God, but did make Jacob her favorite son. Because of that, she convinced him to steal his brother's blessing. This caused a lot of problems. Read Genesis 24:45-46 and Genesis 27:5-11 8. Naomi: Naomi was the mother in law of Ruth. Naomi had two sons, but they both passed away and left her very sad and bitter. Because Ruth wanted Naomi's God to be her God, she travelled to Naomi's homeland to live. It was there that Naomi helped Ruth find her husband, Boaz. Read Ruth 1:3 and Ruth 1:15-18. 6
