Preparation for Worship As you enter the Sanctuary, please prepare your heart for worship and silence your mobile devices. Today is reformation Sunday. Martin luther launched the great reformation when he nailed The ninety-five Theses to the door of the Wittenberg Cathedral on October 31, 1517. Why should this matter to us, and why should we celebrate the reformation today? On reformation Sunday, we rejoice in the recovery of the biblical gospel of grace. Simply put, Christ saves sinners (I Timothy 1:15). We do not and cannot add anything to our salvation. Knowing this fosters a lifestyle of humility, gratitude, and joy. Seeing that Jesus saves us from beginning to end by His grace alone makes proud people humble, rude people grateful, and despairing people joyful. The Reformation reminds us that Christianity is more of a grace-filled journey than a moral code. It is more of a love affair than a religious exercise. It is receiving a gift with open hands instead of keeping rules with clenched fists. Pray that our church would never tire of trumpeting god s grace and that our lord would unleash the transforming power of His gospel that brings times of refreshment. don t let this reformation Sunday pass without praying this for yourself, your family, your church, and our world! Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of god, the holy habitation of the Most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns. The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Come, behold the works of the lord, how he has brought desolations on the earth. He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire. Be still, and know that I am god. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

WCOngregaTIOnal response... ein FeSTe Burg O come, see what the Lord has done: His desolations brought on earth; On earth He puts an end to wars, Breaks bow and spear, and chariots burn. Be still! Prayer by Martin luther Behold, Lord, I am an empty vessel that needs to be filled. My Lord, fill it. I am weak in faith; Strengthen me. I am cold in love; Warm me and make me fervent that my love may go out to my neighbor. I do not have a strong and firm faith; at times I doubt and am unable to trust You altogether. O Lord, help me. Strengthen my faith and trust in Thee. In You I have sealed the treasures of all I have. I am poor; You are rich and came to be merciful to the poor. I am a sinner; You are upright. With me there is an abundance of sin; In You is the fullness of righteousness. Help and forgive me, O Lord, for my only hope is in You. Amen. Human pride and earthly glory, sword and crown betray god s trust; Though with care and toil we build them, tower and temple fall to dust. But god s power, hour by hour, is my temple and my tower. god s great goodness lasts forever, deep His wisdom, passing thought; Splendour, light and life attend Him, beauty springing out of naught. evermore from His store newborn worlds rise and adore. day by day the mighty giver showers gifts on us below; His desire our souls delight in, pleasure leads us where we go.
