Welcome We would like to extend a special welcome to those visiting with us today. We pray this service directs your hearts and minds to the Lord Jesus Christ. We look forward to seeing you again. Each Sunday morning, Sunday School for all ages begins at 9 a.m. and Worship begins at 10:15 a.m. PRAISE The Call to Worship Psalm 118:1, 5, 14, 17, 22-24 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good. His love endures forever. In my anguish I cried to the LORD, and he answered by setting us free. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good. His love endures forever. The LORD is our strength and our song; he has become our salvation. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good. His love endures forever. The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day the LORD has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. The Prayer of Adoration and The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil; for Thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever, Amen. 3

The Doxology Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heav nly host; Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen. RENEWAL The Call to Renewal Colossians 3:1-4 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. The Prayer for Renewal For you, O God, we long. For you our souls thirst, O ever-living God. You are our life and the source of all life. Oh, that we might see your face and live. Our spirits are discouraged and yet we hope in you. Anoint us with your Holy Spirit, that we may sense the truth. Reveal Christ in our midst, that we may sense his leading that we may listen to his Word, that we may recognize his call. Through Jesus Christ, the Resurrection and the Life, to whom be all glory, Amen. 6

Our Silent Prayers of Confession The Confession of Our Common Faith The Apostles Creed, Trinity Hymnal, p. 845 I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell. The third day he arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. 7

The Hymn of Assurance In Christ Alone 8

COMMITMENT The Reading of Holy Scripture Luke 24: 1-27, Pew Bible p. 575 1 But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. 2 And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. 5 And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, 7 that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise. 8 And they remembered his words, 9 and returning from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. 10 Now it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told these things to the apostles, 11 but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them. 12 But Peter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; and he went home marveling at what had happened. 13 That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, 14 and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened. 15 While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. 16 But their eyes were kept from recognizing him. 17 And he said to them, What is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk? And they stood still, looking sad. 18 Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days? 19 And he said to them, What things? And they said to him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, 20 and how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him. 21 But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened. 22 Moreover, some women of our company amazed us. They were at the tomb early in the morning, 23 and when they did not find his body, they came back saying that they had even seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive. 24 Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see. 25 And he said to them, O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory? 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself. 9

The Sermon Pastor Rick Vasquez Resurrection Faith in the Son of God Lessons from the Resurrection, part 1 The Gospel According to Luke The Giving of Our Tithes and Offerings* The offering is a way for Christians to support the mission and ministry of the church. Christians offer a sacrificial portion of their resources time, talents, possessions as an act of faith and gratitude in response to God s grace. The giving of our tithes and offerings is a part of our worship service as an opportunity for the regular, proportionate and generous sharing of the resources God has given us. *Online giving is also available at skyviewpca.org/giving.
