OPENING PRAYER Christopher Riviears Leader: We will sing to you, O Lord, as long as we live. People: We will sing to you as long as we have our being. Leader: May our meditations be pleasing to you, for we rejoice in your presence. People: We will praise the Lord forever! PRAYER OF CONFESSION (in unison) Christopher Riviears We are reminded this morning that we are called upon not to think of ourselves more highly than we ought to think. Sometimes we find that difficult to do. It s not easy to admit our mistakes and acknowledge our weaknesses. It s not easy to accept criticism honestly. It s not easy to compliment those who compete with us. It s not easy to give other people the credit they deserve. Pardon us, we pray, if we have allowed pride to get in our way, and teach us to follow the humble example of our Lord. Amen WORDS OF ASSURANCE God has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. *DOXOLOGY Gloria Patri No. 579 Congregation *THE APOSTLES CREED (page 14 in the front of the hymnal) Congregation WELCOME TO VISITORS Maya Jones PRAYER REQUEST If you have a concern or request that you would like included in the Pastoral Prayer, please jot it down on the index card found in the pew rack and hand it to a deacon as they walk the aisle during the singing of the Welcome Song. WE PROCLAIM GOD S WORD PRAYER OF INTERCESSION Today we lift before you the many among us who we call senior citizens, who are up in years and are in various stages of health and well-being. We thank you for those who are still active and alert, and who are still able to enjoy life, and we pray for their continuing health and strength. We thank you for those who during their retirement years are contributing hundreds of hours of volunteer service for worthy causes. Their contribution of time and talents is beyond calculation, and we thank you for it. We pray for those who are living in retirement homes and receiving various levels of care. Some are loving it, some are disliking it, and others are still adjusting to the change of environment and lifestyle. We pray for all of them, whatever their circumstances that they may find these years to be comfortable and fulfilling.
