United Methodist Church (587-9544) December 6, 2015 North Rose, New York Second Sunday of Advent PRELUDE Good Christian Friends, Rejoice Kim LIFE IN THE CHURCH (Please pass the Fellowship Folders to those seated next to you.) CALL TO WORSHIP 1 Corinthians 7: 17 *PASSING OF THE PEACE Peace be with you. And also with you. *HYMNS OF PRAISE Give Me Jesus Let There Be Peace on Earth ( * invites all who are able to stand to praise God) SILENT PRAYER/PRAYER BOX PLACED ON ALTAR OPENING PRAYER THE LORD S PRAYER (unison) SCRIPTURE Isaiah 11: 1-9 p. 595 LIGHTING OF THE SECOND ADVENT CANDLE (Aaron Dennis, Leah Stuck, Zoe & Addie) SONG Advent Song (back of hymnal verse 2) Jesus was born into a family. Mary and Joseph had to travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem just before Jesus birth. They were poor and had only a donkey on which to ride. Let us put Mary and Joseph in the nativity scene. Here are the parents of Jesus. God knew he needed a father and mother to love him. The first candle of the Advent wreath reminds us that Jesus is the light of the world. The second candle reminds us of the love of Jesus family and of our family s love for each other. (Light two purple candles.) Let us pray: May the love of Jesus and his family be with all of us and our families today and through this coming week. Amen. ANTHEM Good News Junior Choir TIME FOR YOUNG CHRISTIANS

Your love has made us a new people. As a people of love we will serve you with joy. Your glory has filled our hearts; Help us to glorify you in all things. Amen. *PRAYER OF BLESSING *BENEDICTION RESPONSE (sung by all) O holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us, we pray; Cast out our sin, and enter in, be born in us today. We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell; O come to us, abide with us, our Lord Emmanuel! *POSTLUDE Bring a Torch, Jeanette Isabella Hayes Please keep the following people in your prayers during the coming week: Denise Kline, Elaina; Bill & Laurie Klino; Joshua & Jamie Kline, Makenzie, Kendra, Teaghyn; Matt Klino. FAITH HOME: Each week we will be listing an activity that you can enjoy as a family to help us all grow in faith. Be Secret Angels this week. Every

family member draws the name of someone else in the family and then secretly does special things to help & encourage them. The rose on the altar today is in honor of the birth of Ari Christine Aman on Tues. Dec. 1. She is the daughter of Scott Aman & Jessi West, the little sister of Kiera & Max, the granddaughter of Joe & Mary West, and the greatgranddaughter of Johanne West. Today is the deadline for collecting mittens, hats, and scarves for the Mitten Tree Project to be shared with the Utica Neighborhood Center. There are order forms for Christmas poinsettias on the table at the bottom of the stairs in the Fellowship Hall. (So that we can have all orders processed in time, please return them to Melissa Taber by tomorrow, Mon. Dec. 7.) Thank you. A Free Holiday Concert! Next Sunday, Dec. 13, 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Wolcott. An Afternoon with Jeff Sawyer and guest soloists, including Kelley Loveless. There will be a Bake Sale next Sunday, December 13, following the worship service, in the Fellowship Hall. This is an excellent opportunity to purchase some special holiday treats! We re looking for lots of people to donate items for the Bake Sale and lots of shoppers, too! Proceeds from the Bake Sale will help with cost of Vacation Bible School. Thanks for your support! For more information contact Cindy Conboy, faithwaltz@yahoo.com Our annual Angel Tree Project has started. A sign-up poster is in the back of the sanctuary to sign up for food items to be included in our giving. Very Important!!! All food items and gifts (wrapped with the gift tag attached on top) must be returned to church no later than Friday, December 18, for sorting and distributing. Please call Lori Peck with any questions. (587-9766 or llpeck3@hotmail.com). Do you enjoy Christmas caroling? Sunday, December 20, 6:00-7:30 p.m., we will walk through the village singing at homes and then return to the church for cookies & hot chocolate. Kids & adults are welcome! Please bring a flashlight with you. If your family is not represented on our sanctuary Christmas tree, we invite you to add an ornament from your house to the tree anytime during the

Christmas season. Simply fill out a tag from the basket below, with the year and your family name & members. Then, attach the tag to your ornament and hang it on the tree. Ornaments, saved from year to year, fill our sanctuary trees with the love of our past church families as well as those of the present. The Carillon will play in memory of Iva Covey on December 9. Today's bulletins are given in gratitude for all the kids in Junior Choir, and for their director, Mrs. Collier, and helpers, by Pastor Dan Corretore. Our worship theme during these weeks of Advent is "Advent Candles." Each week, we are focusing on the traditional meaning of the candles in the Advent wreath: Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. You might want to have an Advent wreath at home and use a copy of the service for lighting the Advent wreath (found on the information table downstairs). This year, Pastor Dan's Christmas gift for your family is a Christmas tree ornament which depicts the 4 Advent candles. Please pick one up in the back of the church. Please keep Rev. Ann Blair in your prayers, as she recovers from surgery and receives radiation treatment over the coming months. She is the pastor at Red Creek/Westbury and Sterling UMC. Pastor Diane Walker is preaching and officiating at Holy Communion at her churches on the first Sunday of each month, while Ann is recuperating. Help with Sunday snow shoveling at the church entrances will again be needed this year. (Attention youth: this counts toward community service hours.) Please sign up for a Sunday or more if you are able. Sign up is located in the back of the sanctuary. Many thanks, Board of Trustees. Here s an idea to save a little time (and money): deliver your Christmas cards to church friends using their mail folders. We have mail folders located in the fellowship hall by the choir room for each person who is a church officer. Please be sure you check your folder if you have one you don t want to miss out on Christmas greetings! We have lots of great Christmas books and videos for young children, elementary aged kids, teens, and adults! Check out our church library, downstairs in the Fellowship Hall. All books may be borrowed for two weeks by signing them out on the clipboard.

We have a prayer box on the small table in the back of the sanctuary. Everyone is welcome to write prayer needs on a slip of paper and place them in the box. This prayer box is laid on the altar each Sunday. Pastor Dan takes the prayer requests home and continues to pray for these needs during the coming week. However, if you wish to keep your request known to God alone, just write private on the front, and Pastor Dan will not read it. NURSERY care is available for babies, toddlers & pre-schoolers. It is located downstairs (east end of the building). Bathrooms are located downstairs across from the kitchen.
