Beware of the bane of finality about your present views. Oswald Chambers LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE IN THE DARKNESS May Thought Review 2018 I am constantly reviewing any past sermons, articles, studies, etc I have authored. Always looking to see if I am consistent and on a continuum that steadily points forward and upward. Sometimes I repeat with much editing something that was previously spoken or published. This month I have selected some quotes from past May Newsletter articles. Prayer is basic to the Christian life. Prayer is communication with God. We speak He listens. He speaks we listen. Prayer is the communication line between Heaven and humanity. Prayer is necessary for a human/divine relationship to be healthy and growing. Prayer is best when practiced. Focus. Lay aside distractions. Not look to anything that is not the focus. Remember 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on 3 earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3.2-3 NRSV). What is so special about us that no one else can do for the Kingdom? Do we possess some ability that no one else has? Are our life experiences such that only we can achieve this whatever for God? A handy prayer outline for the day: Praise Thank God for what He has already accomplished through Jesus. Repent Confess your sins and shortcomings. Repent personally and on behalf of our nation. The Lord is quick to forgive when we come to Him. Ask Ask God to reveal truth, turn our hearts back toward Him, and bring healing. Yield Yield to the Lord and recognize that He has heard our prayers and will answer according to His will. He is waiting to provide guidance and direction. Consider the words of Christ in Matthew 11:28 30: 28 Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Verse 29 gives the antidote for our self inflicted woundedness. We need to get in the school of Jesus. Entrance is gained by being humble in heart. Maybe we need to relearn this idea of having a submissive attitude and motive deep within ourselves. Maybe we need focus on Him and what His thoughts, actions, words would be. Maybe we need to be more and not be constantly doing. This means that Christ is Lord and we are not our own but His. Humility in submission does away with ourselves taking precedence over Christ. Why not let Him bear the load? Why not? The pray-er needed today can be seen as you look in the mirror! On the Kingdom Road, Pastor Mike
