Rejoice! The Lord is Near! Today we celebrate Gaudete Sunday. Gaudete is Latin for Rejoice, and we rejoice because Christmas day is almost here. The first reading for today foretells of the one who will bring rejoicing, joyfulness and joy when He comes. But why all this rejoicing, joyfulness and joy? Because when the Lord is in our midst, justice will be brought for all. True justice is about giving others what they are due. Treating all men, women and children as Jesus would! Showing the same love, concern, care and compassion to others that we experience from the presence of Jesus in our lives can be our way to witness to the world the Love of God, and the transforming power of His grace. The joy and joyfulness that radiates from our relationship with Christ, as seen in our actions, could inspire others to seek the same source of joy and peace. As we come closer to Christmas day, it is not too late to open our hearts to receive the joy of Jesus and share that joy with others. Play a part in the fulfillment of God s reign in our midst by welcoming and caring for the marginalized and disadvantaged around us. Having the opportunity to be the face and hands of Christ to others is a great reason to REJOICE!! Keep Christ in Christmas! One way to witness to Christ is to shop at local retailers who promote Christmas as the reason for their marketing and sales on a regular basis. The American Family Association (AFA) puts out a list every year of such retailers. Something to think about when doing our Christmas shopping. Advent Happenings At Holy Apostles Parish, Advent brings opportunities for service, food, and socializing. On Saturday, December 3, nearly 100 volunteers prepared cards and gifts for our elderly and homebound. Sunday, December 4, brought hundreds of parishioners to the annual pot luck dinner for delicious homemade food and great fellowship. I m keeping the words short this week so the pictures can tell the story (additional photos found on the parish website). Morning of Service By Stephanie Logue THE LIGHT IS ON FOR YOU This Wednesday, December 14, 2016, from 6:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m., rediscover the healing power of the Sacrament of Reconciliation at any Catholic parish in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. ADVENT WEDNESDAY HOLY HOUR Come together for this traditional liturgy, and peaceful time for prayer in front of the Blessed Sacrament. Deepest thanks to everyone who participated in any way in our Advent Morning of Service. The outpouring of generosity from so many parishioners, in so many ways, was a beautiful reflection of our mission to remember and ensure our continued connection with parishioners who are homebound or in nursing homes. In all, we had more than $700 donated, along with over 800 stamps, and well over 1000 Christmas cards. On Saturday, parishioners assembled over 160 gift bags, and wrote more than 1000 Christmas cards. Thank you to everyone who made any contribution - in time or treasure! For it is giving, that we receive. TONIGHT, SATURDAY 7:00-8:30pm St. Albert the Great Church Come for a time of Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, praise and worship music with our praise band and Holy Apostles choir, adult catechesis and traditional Christmas caroling! Together we will await the coming of Hope to earth! Light reception after the program, thanks to the Holy Apostles Christian Mothers and Women s Guild.. Questions: Call 412-884-7744

Located in the USX Tower Plaza on Grant Street, Pittsburgh, this downtown Pittsburgh tradition will open for public viewing all through Christmas. The Pittsburgh Crèche will remain on display through Epiphany, January 7, 2014. The Pittsburgh Crèche stands as a reminder of God s great love for all of His creation. The first definition of a crèche written in 1619 said that a crèche is to bring to life the events of the birth of Christ so that all who view the scene may personally share the wonder of those who originally saw it. It can also inspire those who see it to reach out to people in need.
