Greetings from Pastor Mike Poole... Intentional Interim Minister I am humbled and excited for your invitation to serve as Intentional Interim Minister (IIM) of Abingdon Baptist Church. I plan to arrive in town on Thursday and report to the office first thing Friday, April 1. Our first Sunday together will be the second Sunday of Easter, April 3. A first order of business is getting to know you your name and the story of how God brought you to ABC. I am quite eager to begin. My priority as IIM is two fold: first, to serve as pastor to the people, and second, to guide the Transition Team in their work with the congregation. However, for the next few weeks I will focus on securing housing and getting settled. It s to your benefit that I identify a place where i can be away and totally rest when I m not on the job." I will need your patience and your prayers in this regard. God has brought us together for His purposes. In the coming months, we will seek God s preferred will for this grand church. These days are exciting; something really good is about to happen. I have no idea what that something good might be. I simply know that it s on it s way. Begin now to ask the Lord exactly what He wants you to do. Stay faithful - pray - worship - give - serve. Love God, love God s people, and love God s world! As we journey through this wilderness, remember: in the desert, promises were made, heavenly manna came down, and sweet water flowed from a rock. God is good - all the time. Pastor Mike, IIM Phrases from Parke... Thank you to our Flower committee and our Property Committee for another absolutely beautiful Flowering of the Cross. What an Easter delight to see the cross an instrument of torture and killing and a gruesome symbol of death - being transformed into a beautiful and engaging symbol of new life! There is new life everywhere! This week our Intentional Interim Pastor arrives on the field. It is a moment for which Abingdon Baptist Church has been waiting since our previous Pastor, Dr. Steven Pollard, moved to Roanoke in the fall. The Council of Deacons and our congregation, spent several weeks getting to know Rev. Michael Poole, his experience and his vision for the transition process. This past Sunday the deacons voted unanimously to call him and the congregation voted to affirm the covenant agreement. Mike comes to us after a long career in Virginia churches and after completing a successful Intentional Interim at Calvary Baptist Church in Durham, North Carolina. These are special days for Abingdon Baptist Church. Let me suggest to you some ways we can make our welcome tangible. First, send Mike a welcome note or email. Tell him you are glad he is here. Mail your note to the church office or email him at Pastor.Mike.Poole@gmail.com. Second, in his first couple months here, call Mike at least once to remind him of how glad you are that he has come to our church and to ask how you can help him with his work among us. Don t be afraid to suggest ways you may be gifted to help. Third, don t assume that Mike will remember everyone s name. Introduce yourself to him personally when you see him. Give him at least three chances to get it right. Fourth, add Mike to your daily prayer list. This is the greatest encouragement we can offer. Mike, I am glad you are here and look forward to the ways God will use you through Abingdon Baptist Church. Welcome aboard! Let me finish by expressing my profound appreciation and gratitude to our Council of Deacons. Few will ever know how hard they have worked the past six months. Thank you to the deacon officers: Steve Lowe, chair; Kevin Abel, vicechair; Ken Russell, secretary & finance committee chair; and Sheila Willis, administrative committee chair. As we begin our journey through this transition process, you folks have modeled that hard work, open conversation, trusting God and trusting each other can begin to move our church forward. May God continue to bless you as servant leaders embodying the spiritual leadership our church needs for the days ahead. See you Sunday, Singing God s song, Parke
