Greetings from the Pulpit Search Committee, After 40 years of service and 12 years as Senior Pastor of Broadview Missionary Baptist Church (BMBC), Pastor Marvin G. Parker has announced his plans to retire, effective April 2019. We thank God for his years of faithful service. As a result, in accordance to our Church Constitution, the BMBC Pulpit Search Committee will be responsible for the nomination our next Senior Pastor for the BMBC membership approval and vote. We continue to trust the Lord for His provision and His timing. We are seeking the scriptures and using 1 Tim. 3:1-13; 2 Tim. 2 and Titus 1:5-9 as our framework. JOB SUMMARY: We believe that under the leadership and guidance of the Holy Spirit, the senior pastor will: Serve as leader of our congregation in spiritual and physical growth in our community Be responsible to the church for providing spiritual and administrative leadership for the church and for using his office to proclaim the gospel and provide pastoral care to meet the needs of persons in the church and community Equip the people of God for the work of the ministry (Ephesians 4:11-12) CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS: The senior pastor should be able to lead and guide spiritually, preach Sunday and other worship services, teach and interpret the scripture, preside over weddings, baptisms, and funerals, provide pastoral care and counseling. He will assist with outreach into the community as well as other duties and responsibilities determined important with the following qualifications; Spiritual Calling: (1 Corinthians 9:16) Minimal Education Qualifications: Bachelors degree, preferred MDiv., ThM, or DMin desired Ministry Experience: An ordained minister, with a clear calling to pastoral ministry, preferably 10+ years in Ministry Previous pastoral experience in a church of (1000-2000) or larger Ability to teach, engage others biblically while relating to people of different ethnic, socio-economic, and generational backgrounds Significant experience in and demonstrated proclivity toward courageous, visionary leadership Experience providing sound spiritual counsel/guidance 5+ years of public preaching and evangelism Church Leadership & Supervision: Proven track record of membership growth 3
Experience with developing and executing organizational vision Experience supervising pastoral or ministry staff Ability to encourage motivate and support ministry leaders Ability to engage and make biblical teaching accessible to young populations Life & Family: Emulate a lifestyle that parallels the biblical requirements for leaders (1 Timothy 3:1-13; 2 Timothy 2; Titus 1:5-9) Live in or be able to relocate to the Chicago metropolitan area MAJOR CORE COMPETENCIES: The senior pastor will accomplish this by ensuring the church makes continual progress in these key areas: A. Preaching: Develop and deliver sermons for each planned worship service that proclaim the word of God with clarity and conviction. The sermons should communicate a comprehensive understanding of the Bible and Christian theology in accordance with The Baptist Faith and in clear and concise terms which hearers may understand and apply in their daily personal lives. B. Evangelism: Maintain a lifestyle of personal evangelism, leading individuals to make decisions for Christ and to begin growing as disciples of Jesus Christ, while also proclaiming the urgency of the church being about the Lord s business (Luke 19:10,13), and ensuring that church members are adequately trained for that purpose. C. Missions: Lead the church to embrace the Lord s Great Commission with both a personal passion and church-wide urgency and commitment to reach the lost within our community and beyond. D. Discipleship: Ensure that a comprehensive and effective approach for making disciples is established and maintained to include adults, youth, and children. This should include: 1. Reaching new believers (evangelizing) 2. Training disciples (teaching/instructing for understanding of the word) 3. Developing followers (mentoring/coaching for application) 4. Empowering witnesses (encouraging reproduction) 4
