12 Reasons Why Matthew 10 is Not Our Pattern Today A Comparison of Christ s Sending of the 12 to Israel with that of Paul Christ s earthly ministry was to confirm the promises made to Israel s fathers, cause division in Israel, call out the little flock (remnant), bring judgment, convert Israel to then convert the world and institute the kingdom (Rom15:8-12): 1. The 12 were called by Christ in the flesh, prior to the cross, ministering prophecy (Mt10:1) 2. The 12 were called by Christ numerically, one for each tribe of kingdom Israel (Mt10:1) 3. The 12 were sent by Christ to keep and instruct the law as Jews (Mt5:17-20; 23:1-3,23; 28:19-20) 4. The 12 were called by Christ through the gospel of Israel s promised kingdom (Mt4:17-20) 5. The 12 were sent by Christ to Israel exclusively, commanded not to go to Gentiles (Mt10:5-7) 6. The 12 were sent by Christ to preach the gospel of Israel s kdom w/o the cross (Mt10:7; 16:20-24) 7. The 12 were sent by Christ w/a message of division and fear of coming judgment (Mt10:7,34-38) 8. The 12 were sent by Christ w/ power to perform miracles (Mt10:1,8) 9. The 12 were sent by Christ expecting physical provision from others (Mt10:9-10; 6:25,31) 10. The 12 were sent by Christ to take no thought for how/what to speak (Mt10:18-20) 11. The 12 were sent by Christ to endure to the end to be saved (Mt10:22; 24:3,13-14) 12. The 12 were sent by Christ requiring confession him to men or be denied (Mt10:32-33) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Upon Israel s rejection of God, Christ and the Spirit, they fell. Christ s heavenly ministry is to reveal the hidden, eternal purpose of his new creature, the body of Christ (Eph1-3) with a ministry of reconciliation to the world as his ambassadors (2Cor5:14-21): 1. Paul was sent by Christ after his ascension, preaching the mystery body (Ac26:16; 2Tim1:9; Rom16:25) 2. Paul was not sent as, nor could be one of Christ s kingdom apostles (Ac1:15-26; Mt19:28; Rev21:14) 3. Paul was sent by Christ to preach his grace, not law (Gal1:11-12,15-16; 2:20; Rom6:14; 1Tim1:3,7,11) 4. Paul was sent by Christ to call men by the gospel of the cross to salvation (1Cor1:18; 9:17; 15:1-4) 5. Paul was sent by Christ to all men through Israel s fall (Rom11:11,25-27; 1Tim2:3-7; Ti2:11) 6. Paul was sent by Christ to reveal the mystery & glory by Christ s cross (1Cor2:2,6-8; Gal6:14) 7. Paul was sent by Christ with a message of God s grace & peace by the cross (Rom5:1; Eph1:2; 2:16) 8. Paul was sent by Christ w/power of miracles to those requiring a sign (Ac19:11; 2Co12:12; 1Co1:22) 9. Paul was sent by Christ providing for his own & instructing so by faith (1Ths2:9; 2Ths3:8; 1Tim5:8) 10. Paul was sent by Christ instructing us to study to be an approved workman (2Tim2:15; 1Ths4:11) 11. Paul was sent by Christ to preach a present possess of salvation (Rom5:10; Eph2:5-9; 1Co1:18; 15:2) 12. Paul was sent by Christ to preach salvation not by works, but through his blood (Ti3:5; Rom5:9)

2. The 12 were called by Christ numerically, one for each tribe of Israel (Mt10:1) (Matt 10:1 [KJV]) And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. God chose Abram and gave him promises of a land and multiplied seed that would bless all people: (Gen 12:1-3 [KJV]) Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. Access to God s promises were conditioned upon a covenant of circumcision: (Gen 17:7-14 [KJV]) And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God. And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations. This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised. And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you. And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed. He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant. Both Isaac and Jacob were the sons of promise by God s election: (Gen 17:19 [KJV]) And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him. (Gen 21:1 [KJV]) And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken. For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac. And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him. (Gen 25:21 [KJV]) And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived. And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the LORD. And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger. And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb. And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau. And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them. (Gen 28:13-16 [KJV]) And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.

And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not. What is the significance of 12? Jacob s name was changed to Israel and he had 12 sons: (Gen 32:27 [KJV]) And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. (Gen 35:22-26 [KJV]) Now the sons of Jacob were twelve: And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father's concubine: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve: The sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun: The sons of Rachel; Joseph, and Benjamin: And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid; Dan, and Naphtali: And the sons of Zilpah, Leah's handmaid; Gad, and Asher: these are the sons of Jacob, which were born to him in Padan-aram. Jacob s 12 Sons Became the 12 Tribes of Israel: (Gen 49:28 [KJV]) All these are the twelve tribes of Israel: and this is it that their father spake unto them, and blessed them; every one according to his blessing he blessed them. Moses Chose Men of Every Tribe to Judge Israel: (Exod 18:21 [KJV]) Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens: And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee. If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go to their place in peace. So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father in law, and did all that he had said. And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens. And they judged the people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves. 12 Men Were Chosen to Search Out the Promised Land: (Deut 1:21-23 [KJV]) Behold, the LORD thy God hath set the land before thee: go up and possess it, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath said unto thee; fear not, neither be discouraged. And ye came near unto me every one of you, and said, We will send men before us, and they shall search us out the land, and bring us word again by what way we must go up, and into what cities we shall come. And the saying pleased me well: and I took twelve men of you, one of a tribe: 12 Men Were Chosen to Gather Stones Out of the Jordan: (Josh 4:1-3 [KJV]) And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over Jordan, that the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying, Take you twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man, And command ye them, saying, Take you hence out of the midst of Jordan, out of the place where the priests' feet stood firm, twelve stones, and ye shall carry them over with you, and leave them in the lodging place, where ye shall lodge this night. Elijah Used 12 Stones in the Altar Built Before the Prophets of Baal: (1Kgs 18:31 [KJV]) And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel shall be thy name: Jesus Chose 12 Disciples Whom Were Called Apostles (Sent to Lay a Foundation):

(Luke 6:13 [AKJV/PCE]) And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles; Jesus Declares the 12 Apostles Function of Judging the 12 Tribes in their Kingdom: (Matt 19:28 [KJV]) And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Judas, one of the 12, Betrayed Christ to be Crucified: (Matt 26:14-16 [KJV]) Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him. After Judas Suicide, his part of the ministry needed filled by a disciple present from John s baptism until Christ s ascension: (Acts 1:15-26 [KJV]) And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,) Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus. For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry. Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood. For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take. Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection. And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen, That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place. And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. Matthias choosing of God before Pentecost, completed the 12 Apostles in time for the Holy Ghost out-pouring. This proper selection was confirmed by the 11 standing up with Peter: (Acts 2:1-14 [KJV]) And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,

Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine. But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: The Significance of 12 Tribes and Apostles Finds Prophetic Fulfillment in the New Jerusalem, which are Israel s things to come : (Rev 21:12 [AKJV/PCE]) And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: (Rev 21:14 [AKJV/PCE]) And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. When Considering Audience in Bible Study, this study should now bring more clarity: (Jas 1:1 [AKJV/PCE]) James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting. 2. Paul was not sent as, nor could be one of Christ s kingdom apostles (Ac1:15-26; Mt19:28; Rev21:14) Paul was disqualified from being one of the 12 disciples/apostles from the criteria listed (Ac1:15-26) Paul s apostleship & office was singular in focus: Israel fallen, & he sent to all men equally (Rom1:14; 11:11,13,32) (Rom 1:14 [KJV]) I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. (Rom 11:11 [KJV]) I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy. (Rom 11:13 [KJV]) For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office: (Rom 11:32 [KJV]) For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all. Paul s ministry concerned the one new creature, of two one new, not the one nation & its 12 tribes (Eph2:11-16) (Eph 2:11-16 [KJV]) Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: (Rom 12:5 [KJV]) So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. (1Cor 12:12 [KJV]) For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ (1Cor 12:13 [KJV]) For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. (Eph 4:4 [KJV]) There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; Though Paul was not one of the 12 apostles, he was not behind the chiefest of them (1Cor15:9; 2Cor11:5) (1Cor 15:9-10 [KJV]) For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. (2Cor 12:11-12 [KJV]) I am become a fool in glorying; ye have compelled me: for I ought to have been commended of you: for in nothing am I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I be nothing. Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds. Peter, James & John recognized he received new revelation/apostleship from Christ & yielded (Gal2:6-9) (Gal 2:6-9 [KJV]) But of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth no man's person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me: But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter; (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:) And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision. Peter was rebuked & yielded to Paul s apostolic authority (Gal2:11-12) (Gal 2:11-12 [KJV]) But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed. For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision. Peter had did not comprehend that which was given to Paul by Christ (2Pe3:15 (2Pet 3:15-16 [KJV]) And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
