It is Graduation time for our Catholic schools. As pastor, I am always proud of the achievements of our parishioners no matter what school they attend. But this weekend I take special pride in our Catholic School graduates. Bishop Hartmayer will be visiting our parish this Sunday for a 2:30 pm Graduation Mass for the seniors who will be receiving their diplomas from Aquinas High School. We are blessed to have a Bishop who as a former Catholic High School principal is so committed to Catholic Education. The mission of Aquinas High School is developing Christian leaders through an excellent Catholic secondary education. The school emphasizes moral/ethical standards and strives for a Christian integration of spirit, mind, and body in each student. Aquinas seeks to foster respect for all persons, to encourage responsibility in each individual, and to promote Christian service among its students. In order for this mission to be accomplished, an active spiritual life must permeate everyday living. There are many paths to discipleship but Aquinas High School is one of the best. This Tuesday evening for the last time as Pastor, I will preside as our eighth-graders graduate from St. Mary School, but my hope is that I be back someday as a retired priest to witness many graduations in years to come. It will also be Mr. Joseph McBride s last graduation as Principal, but he ll be back as a parent for the graduations of his two sons. For both of us there will be time later to say our farewells but on Tuesday the focus will be on the graduates. Our parish school is a tremendous blessing for this Faith Community. On behalf of the parish I offer the following graduates our congratulations as they achieve this happy moment in their education. We also want to offer them our prayerful encouragement that they will continue to acquire the habits of intellectual and moral virtue which will help them strive for personal holiness and prepare them for whatever God may call them to do in life. Together we educate the whole person mind, heart, and spirit. I am grateful that so many of our parents are willing to make significant sacrifices to give their children a Catholic education. And I also have a deep gratitude for all in the parish who do not have school aged children and yet who by living out so faithfully a sense of discipleship help make Catholic education a possibility for all the children of our parish. Thank you for being such good and generous stewards of the treasure that God has entrusted to you. Bishop Gregory J. Hartmayer has thanked Fr. Gonzalo Meza for his ministry at St. Mary on the Hill and appointed him to be Parochial Vicar of St. Teresa of Avila, Grovetown. He has appointed Fr. Vernon Knight to be Parochial Vicar of St. Mary on the Hill. Fr. Knight spent a summer with us as a seminarian intern. These appointments are effective as of June 14 th. This Monday there will be an important meeting for the ushers in the Church at 7:00 pm. Our ushers provide welcome and dignified order to the celebration of the Sunday Eucharist. Currently, the ranks of those committed to this ministry, week in and week out, are thinning. The Church (CCC #1324) reminds us that the Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life. We always need to bring our best effort to the celebration of Sunday Mass. I feel as though I ve been somewhat neglectful in the formation of those involved in this ministry, which I want to correct before I head off to the beach. So, if you d wish to dedicate a portion of your time and talent to this good work, please join me on Monday evening. If you are interested in the ministry but cannot attend on Monday, please call the parish office (706-733-6627) and let us know. If you already are serving but can t make the meeting, please also call the office to let us know you wish to continue as an usher. Thank you. On the Way Home: In the Gospel today Jesus says, I will not leave you orphans. How do you experience God s love and presence in your life?

Many of us are diligent in our planning, making sure things are progressing smoothly, then disaster strikes, we don t get the result that was intended. An unforeseen problem arises. Many times we may respond negatively. Why me? I did everything right! Here s the thing God has a different and better plan in store for you.

Covenant Care Adoptions Did you know that adoption today looks very different than it did even a generation ago? Covenant Care Adoptions provides a semi-open relationship between a birthmother and the adoptive family. This means that the birthmother chooses the family that will adopt her baby and has the opportunity to meet the family and receive yearly letters and pictures as her child grows up. This type of relationship honors the birthmother and allows for sharing the love of Jesus with her throughout the adoption process. 800-226-5683 www.covenantcareadoptions.com 11 Days to Holy Land and Italy October 30 - November 9, 2017 Spiritual Guide: Father Gonzalo Meza Discounted Price $3,999.99 per person (payment complete 6 months in advance) For more information, contact Fr.
